Very short 3 maps. Looks like a novices mod, crates, health and power points and truck are all badly scaled. Not much scenery or use of textures. Couldn’t get the first door to open.
Lots of weapons that aren’t needed. Not really worth the download unless you’re a novice mapper looking for novices maps!
Black Bag Operations comes to us by forum user Lurker of Mapping and is apparently a first-time release. While it does have plenty of room for improvement, it’s still a decent first effort.
Gameplay is straightforward with the expected Black Ops-oriented combat, including zombies, a few alien slaves, and one shock trooper for added measure. The few set-pieces that are here are well designed, particularly one involving a pack of zombies. Four fellow Marines are supplied, giving this map pack a real campaign feel. Having to escort four Marines, however, is certainly a task, but the backup they provide definitely makes up for it. Indeed, backup is critical because health and ammo is rather sparse and taking out the numerous Black Ops proves to be quite an exercise.
Trudging through the three maps is also an exercise…in frustration. The lack of lighting in key areas requires too much use of the night vision goggles; more lighting could have been applied to better see the areas and enemies in them. These areas are rather plain and unimpressive, even distinctly boxy.
Black Bag Operations may be fundamentally flawed architecturally, but it has some nice ideas and solid Opposing Force-style gameplay. Give it a play.

There’s lots of blue and everything just looks out of proportions.

I pushed him right up to the door, but he did nothing.
All I did was go up to him, press the use key and he followed me to the door and got to work!
Not short enough, too dark, no fun!
This is another OP4 dog (and that’s insulting to dogs), while there have been worse, this is still awful. The first door is the only thing that is even remotely like a puzzle, the combat is made only slightly difficult by the lack of light but is even worse with night-vision on. The proportions in parts is almost comical but at least with the lack of light you can’t see how bad it really looked.
Is there anything positive to say about this? Hmm, can’t think of anything!

This mappack looks ok at first. We appear in some Black Mesa environment. The design looks simple, but nice. But then… Engineer cuts out the door and the door hangs in the air. Below we can see flat cliffs and a Black Ops soldier who is surrounded by yellow flies.
A while later we see stretched truck. The cliffs look better here, but still mostly flat. Then dead scientist who hangs in the air, chair which magically moved through the table. Then giant health and energy rechargers. In outdoor areas, there’s a blue light which comes from nowhere.
The gameplay is fun and enjoyable. We lead a squad of soldiers against black ops and aliens. The only flaw is that there’s a small door at the beginning of the third map, getting soldiers to go through it is quite a challenge. Then there’s geometry, where the challenge is a lot harder.
At the end we see a motionless silent helicopter, music plays, screen fades out. Friendly soldier thought that the helicopter is hostile and started to shoot at it.

Ok, this was too way better than the Fallen Chopper one, at least it looks that the author had a plan or lay out for this one to flow, so I liked that and definetely the 50cal machguun available in the map was a total plus for my recommendation.
I know the whole thingb feels too much blocky especially at the end, but the combat there was just ok, so I was quite entretained in this one.

Not really any fun!
I have to admit to noclipping most of this one; I was put off by the extremely blocky, off-proportion levels and bad lighting. I suppose nothing else about it was terrible but there aren’t really any redeeming features either.
Play it if you must try every map, otherwise Avoid It.

I cringed when I saw it was from “Lurker of Mapping,” a visitor to the Ten Four forums way back when. He was a new mapper and we tried to encourage him but he released a bunch of stuff like this.
Even if you’re desperate for Opposing Force action, you should skip this one. It’s blocky mapping, absolutely terrible lighting, and just too basic to enjoy. You face a small mixture of enemies, but everything is scaled badly and the awful blue lighting makes it awful to look at, too.
I didn’t have any engineer problems, but my squad had trouble with the tight doorways so I just left them behind. It’s generally fairly easy if you play with caution, although the Black Ops sniper can take you down quick if you’re not careful. But best not to download in the first place.

This map was just an absolute mess.
Soldiers were halfway through doors, the “yellow flies” made a return, a func_ladder was put way in front of the actual latter and one of the dead scientists was just floating in the air.

Game play wise this map pack is half decent except for a total lack of scripted_sequences which makes every mod truly great and unique. So don’t expect any teleporting monsters or anything else for that matter. Every monster has been pre placed on the map.
As some people mentioned there is a Black Op at the start surrounded by yellow flies. I like to believe that this was actually intended as some sort of aiming help considering that it is very dark and black ops are hard to see in the darkness. But also because the yellow flies appeared no where else. So it’s actually a nice thing even if not the most realistic game decision.
Mapping wise as others pointed out is this map pack one huge mess. Rooms are so huge and prefabs so highly scaled that it stands to reason that the mapper did his mapping on a higher grid plane. Something no mapper should ever do.
That aside it’s a map pack with a working start, working map transitions and a working end_game sequence.
Play it when you’re bored or in some nostalgia hype. With 15-20 minutes game play there isn’t much to see or do anyway.

I was unsure of whether to give this an “Avoid it!” or “Think Twice”. Because really, the map is plain awful, with blocky geometry, weird blue lighting, bad enemy placement, and an assortment of random issues. Like why is that scientist floating in the air? Why the HEV and HP chargers are so big? Why that black ops at the start is surrounded by light? Why so many weapons for such a short map?).
But once you start to play other awful maps, you realize that you could do far, FAR worse. Hell, this one at least uses friendly grunts unlike many of the other bottom-of-the-barrel maps. Still, this is not enough to save it from being among the worst maps ever created, so a 1/5 is the best it can get from me.

Just few experimental maps. The first part I think it’s the hardest until you get to HEV station. Still know it is guarded by a sniper and if you can’t kill it, well, the mission is over. Surprisingly, after that sniper the difficulty drops to the ground and becomes a walk in the park. I still do not understand why the sniper killed the medic on hard by running away from this position. He should stay in his post.
