This mini-partial-conversion was made for a mapping competition.
It features a medieval theme, some Quake touches and a great soundscape.
Enemies and weapons are all from the Half-Life universe.
You are giving an objective and you better follow the order!
Of course, like all situations, it can change, so keep following the instructions.
Just remember this: there is always away forward, keep exploring.

Black Death is a single-player Half-Life 2: Episode Two level that deviates from the original gameplay.
In the post-apocalyptic future, Gordon Freeman must escape from a zombie-infested medieval tourist town outside of City 17 with no allies and only two tools at his disposal – his trusty crowbar and a confusion crossbow.
The new crossbow confuses enemies into attacking the victims rather than killing them. Outmanned, he must adapt to his new environment and find the balance between crowbar and crossbow.

“In a last-ditch attempt to escape Black Mesa with their lives, a militia of scientists, among them Gordon Freeman from Sector C, swarmed a small airstrip and hijacked the helicopters there, intending to fly them to the nearest major city and safety.
There were many casualties but the plan seemed to be successful – the survivors got the aircraft up and it did not appear that they were being pursued…things looked optimistic.”

This level that takes place on a mysterious, haunted prison isle. The player must overcome a series of Myst-style puzzles to find a way to reach the lighthouse. Limbus Island is a study in non-verbal communication, as the player must discover their goals and puzzle solutions solely through visual and audio cues.

DoomEd is a single-player first person shooter learning game that combines science and history with FPS action, taking players through the horror of bio-terrorism and WWII chemical experimentation gone wrong.
The backstory mixes factual content (the WW2 experiments at Porton Down, Chemical Defence Experimental Station, ‘urban exploration’ in disused London underground stations) with fiction and fantasy (a lost labyrinth populated with human mutants and military personnel who believe the war is still going on).
The action is set in the labyrinth of lost London underground stations and tunnels that have not been in operation for over fifty years. The game follows the conventions of FPS gameplay – interweaving between orientation/exploration and action/warfare with mutants but replacing puzzles with science-based problems and puzzles, drawing on appropriate aspects of the KS4 science curriculum.

Author’s Note: “You had just been transferred to this unit . Being in the army was more boring then you had expected.
At this new base, they had spent the last 2 days unloading crates from a place called “Black Mesa”.
Crate carrying – how exciting!
