Maybe I have overdosed on Xen today but I didn’t really enjoy this.
It’s a typical Xen map with little new to go crazy about.
Just for Xen lovers.
Original map’s name – Go to Xen Awalk, author – OffyGhost.
What’s a walk on Xen without really difficult annoying jumping puzzles? This guy nailed the theme down perfectly. Good job.
A short and not very fun map that stumped me at one point (hint: the portal to the third area is off a ledge).
We start in the corridor with nice design and beautiful lighting. The onscreen text informs that we play as Gordon Freeman. Barney at the entrance is surprised that Gordon arrived early today. He also says that scientists are going to turn on some device. When opening the door, he presses air instead of keyboard keys.
Scientists send us to Xen to destroy the crystal which prevents from returning to Earth. Impressive big teleporter room, white beam, green beam, portal…
Xen in this mod is not as stunning as in original Half-Life. It also has issues. When I got outside, it took many tries to get to the portal, because there is a “step” at the edge of the island which prevents us from conveniently jumping down. Even more, when we land, the ledge will break which makes it even harder. In the location with flying islands I tried to jump to the portal but was stopped by invisible wall. This location also looks empty. If a monster falls down, it gibs, which shouldn’t be like that. There are holes in the flying island, and you can see water from another location through the sky.
Conclusion: this could have been a great mod if the author spent more time on Xen locations and made them more imaginative, because the labs here are great, but Xen isn’t.
Ugh.. Xen, I just don’t like Xen basically I have to say. It reminds me of longjumps and ugly textures. But then we start inside a building….somewhere!? Black Mesa? I don’t know.
Readme and ingame voices are in Russian, and my Russian is just too bad except understanding “Privet Doc!” 😛
Soon we find ourself in a large teleporter that will take us to… exactly! Who would have thought?
And soon we find the longjump module…ugh! Besides other mods also contain the longjump with no necessary meaning here it is necessary, unfortunately. I hate longjumps if they’re required to finish a map or mod.
However sooner or later I could make it to reach the teleporter beam, a few puzzle and back in the facility, brabbling scientists, end. And also the end for me! Sorry, after what I experienced or expected I can’t give it better rating than “avoid it!”, maybe “for Xen fans only!”.
There is less combat, no real or understandable story, as good as no puzzles and to me no atmosphere, just nothing special, no surprises or non-linear gameplay. Yawn! No fun for me.
Besides that it’s very short, I guess Kaito Kid could do it in two minutes lol
Whatever, I needed a lil longer because I’ve never played it before.
Playtime: 11 minutes
Well, this looks like another mod concept where a topic inside HL, is the big almost “perfect” excuse to do a big challenge hability path, is not like the absolutely rude and fun killer Hazardous Course2 is, but this iis more subtle.
The pros on this are that is medium-short, and that the hability required is not extremely tough, just some precission jumps achive the goals in there.
The mapping was not amusing at all, and the best part of it is the rotating flying isles in XEN, also I didn’t like the mapper shows his perssonal touches in the mapping like that dressing room with a strange awful speaker with odd music.
Overall i’m being quite subjective on this one, because I don’t particluary enjoy Xen map style, to me Xen also was like a Valve experiment tring to recreate “open areas” or open spaces inside HL1, thing that due to the tech limits of the time was not achived, so the open areas xen couldn’t fullfil, are suplied by strange high caves and narrow tunnels, quite similar to Black Mesa but with xenina textures.
Here we have a short 1-map pack that probably isn’t worth your time unless you’re a complete Xen-lover. I didn’t mind Xen at all, although most user-made mods and maps that use Xen are excruciating. This isn’t the worst offender, it’s a mostly insubstantial map.
In short, you must travel to Xen and accomplish something (the speech is in Russian). Destroy a crystal, Emo says above – I wish I had read that before playing because it led to a little frustration in the last area.
This particular Xen has some issues. You can see another part of the map through the Xen sky – minor graphical glitch but still a bug. The author uses an invisible wall to prevent you from jumping in some places on Xen which is really annoying and kind of cheap. It means you have to make your way through the way the author wants you to which is frustrating. Otherwise, the Xen here is passable and really only one of the 4 or so areas has tough jumps. Keep an eye out for the longjump module.
In total this is a pretty short map with a basic mission involving a visit to Xen. If you just can’t get enough of Xen, it might be worth a look – but there’s really nothing novel about it – and very little combat or anything else to keep you interested.

Not a serious challenge, though some jumps are tricky enough. Nicely detailed rest room.

The mod is very bland tbh. Just another generic Xen type map where you jump around floating rocks, go to one teleporter to another and that’s it. There’s nothing much to say about this
