If you want a real challenge try playing True Combat: Elite. Not only does it not tell you how many rounds are left in a magazine (it gives only an estimate), if you swap out a half full magazine you lose all the unspent rounds in it. Talk about real life!
As for your first point that should be fairly easy for both futuristic and near-futuristic games. I.e. a mini rail gun could be used to fire anything metallic, and there are presently guns in development that can fire compacted ice from the environment.
