OK, I’ve played the first 5 minutes and this seems to be a well-made mod. So far it’s some simple puzzles. The mod crashed on my at my first quick save but I believe that this is NOT the fault of the mod. My HL2 installation is not working properly.
It’s unlikely I will continue this mod because I don’t enjoy dark, environments. I’m a Black Mesa type of player.
If you like those types of mods then you will probably enjoy this one.
When I DL’d this file, the .rar extension didn’t show, never had that happen before! I had to add it manualy and it extracted ok!
now THIS is reminiscent of Resident Evil.
Can’t wait to get home and play it.
I played this one a month ago and find it quite interesting ambiance with well put together with the gost attack (you will see…) some interesting puzzle but other quite boring or frustrating not a good storyline it’s misses some voice acting like in resident evil or some on text message that will increase the trilling. The whole mission will take you arround and half hour.
In conclusion : Good architecture, use of lightning and general design, overuse of puzzle sometimes frustrating, missing a storyline (on text or voice acting) that would immerse the player into the theme
I will leave the comments about design to those far more qualified than myself.BUT
After finishing it, I can say gameplay was probably the most BORING I have ever encountered. For a dark game with Zombies, Head crabs etc. They Hunger it is not. Gameplay for me is the most important aspect of any game no matter what its genre is. I endeavour to finish any Mod that I download, but this one I wish I hadn’t bothered.
Going against what most people are saying about this mod, I liked it. It kept me on my feet. It kept me on my feet for the entire time! That’s something very crucial to a horror/suspense mod.
It’s primarily a puzzle mod, which is actually a plus to me. It’s difficult to pull off logical puzzles in a first person shooter, and though there are some flubs in the jumping parts that made it more difficult than necessary, it was still logical enough that I could go from room to room without being completely lost.
Every room, area, and hall has it’s own creative element that was much of the reason why I was in suspense most of the time. The lighting, the sound effects, and the Gman consistant appearing and disappearing made it intriguing. True there was little story to speak of, and that’s something that is a downside, but the creepy atmosphere more than makes up for it. I’m not sure there’s much replay value since it’s so short, but…
I liked the mod because it looks really different than the usual HL2 efforts. But I agree with most that some exposition or voice over would have been great. So it’s only a collection of cool rooms with little connection. BTW, I got stuck at the end in the room where the fountain had toppled. How were I supposed to get outside? I had to use noclip at the end…
Pros:
1 – There were some memorable startling moments.
2 – Horror atmosphere was convincing
Cons:
1 – I wish there were new monsters instead of recycled Half-Life 2 stuff.
2 – It’s pretty short.
3 – Bugs. there are multiple points in the game where you’re completely screwed if you do something, or do something too soon.
4 – way too easy.
Bottom Line:
you had to jump up on the right side (‘right” when facing the outside-door) of the toppled fountain, get wedged in and jump a few times.
It was a crappy puzzle, climbing like that shouldn’t have even been possible.
Here we go again. I’m stuck. How do I open the gate (text in screen: “gate closed’). Obviously a key or switch somewhere. But where ?
SPOILER ALERT
If it’s right at the beginning, then I think you have to go to the right of the house and go into the small patio area with the G-man. IF not then I’m sorry I can’t remember!
No, I’m already in the house with the table with the corpses on it. The gate is in a hallway to the right. On the left is the hallway which leads to the door with the neverending square hallway. Maybe someone else reading this will remember…
BTW: Did you know your e-mail notifications with this forum aren’t working. Not with me at least.
And just as I wrote that it started working again…
Sorry.
Play it now. Well made with a convicing architeture. Not bad made, scenes were well drawn, as you can see in the images. It has just ONE major moment that you actually get a jump out of your chair. By the way, the “ghosts” are zombies painted in blue. Good job anyway. DL it if you got the time for playing. Game time varies. I got in there 20 minutes or so
I almost really enjoyed this mod. It has nice looking architecture and some fun action.
It could have been first class but it’s let down by some really annoying and silly mistakes.
Firstly there’s a lot of wandering around trying to find which door you just picked up the key for and secondly there’s a clumsily done but with a fountain that’s fallen over.
Because of these two factors this mod just misses out on a top recommendation and only gets a
This map is spooky like the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. Everything fits into that “Haunted House” genre where you have the scary staircase, spooky rooms, floating furniture, and courtyard. It’s all there and a lot more. The Mansion 3 tells a short story of Gordon Freeman returning home after his epic of saving the world. You would think it was over, but when he comes home to his Gothic Mansion he becomes overwhelmed with flashbacks.
After a short cut-scene you begin at the entrance where you’ll find some unique Medieval characteristics in the architecture. Most of the textures seem new and are well done. Fancy brick patterns on the ground and handcut block walls. I love the old London street lights which illuminate the outside of the mansion. Most of the map seems to be well thought out. There aren’t too many square rooms and you find yourself outdoors and indoors alike. Some areas are abstract with floating furniture, and other areas are maze-like, leaving you confused and confined. This is a pretty linear mod and you will find yourself coming across the same areas multiple times, but not all the rooms are as they were.
Your enemies will be very familiar from the original Half-Life 2. Head crabs and zombies will find their way into the building and there is no way to sneak by them. Keep your shotgun loaded and from time to time resort to using the crowbar to save ammo. Overall, there are some good scares and some good action. It would have been nice to see more Mansion areas like in the original Resident Evil, but you’ll find that it becomes more and more abstract. Maybe a graveyard or a swamp-like swimming pool? I don’t know, but there is a bit to be desired and I felt like I was left wanting more.
Negatives
– A bit abstract and hard to understand
– Linear gameplay
– Small arsenal of weapons
Positives
– Good new architecture and textures
– Scares and spooky environments
– Good zombie action
Conclusion
I liked The Mansion 3. I don’t know if there are a 1 & 2 but this is a great experiment with custom content. I had fun and enjoyed the erie environments. I love it when zombies come out of the dark and slash at your back. This mod may give you some chills or it will irritate you to no end. Find out for yourself.
My Recommendation
A teaser video has been added.
I was having fun playing this until….THAT BLOODY PUFF BALL!!!!!! the one that drops from the tree. I’ve been trying to bounce to that branch for half an hour now and its so dam anoying that I’ve stopped playing the mod as this is clearly a bug that most of you have fluked your way past.
a shame.
Great Mod , but a litte short for me …..The toppled fountain was a little hard to jump on ( just go to the right side and jump like craze, you’ll get it after a few times). It ran on my xp with no bugs.
what do I need to do when the moon falls?
I don’t make mods for hl2 myself but I have for other games like RF, TOT, and oblivion. This mod has a great feel to it wihich reminds me of The Resident Evil 1 remake. There are few glitches with the game but the gameplay is fustrating and hard to understand. (ex: the moon falling out of the sky has nothing to do with the game. The fountain scene is rediculous and the many apperances of the G-man is simply silly. Plus the ending kinda brought me down) Only shotgun and crowbar to use in the mod and there are health packs everywhere which took away from the RE feel that I mentioned earlier. Very cool ideas though presented in the layout of this mod and worth a look if you are a creater of mods yourself. If your looking for something to play for fun I would keep on looking, if you want to feel a little creepy/fustrated I would say this is the game for you. Overall 7/10.
A little boring.
so id like to download this but I klick on files thing to download and it doesnt find the page … im new to this website plz help
@Jorgo,
I’ve added the working links and the images should also be viisble soon, once all the uplaods finish.
Be sure to return and tell other PP readers what you thought O fthe mod.
what folder do u put it in
There were a couple of good surprises, but otherwise it was just more of the same.
Some of the design was nice (the waterfall hall), some of it was too busy.
The path to leave the house was not very intuitive.
I guess I don’t like dark mods/maps.
I put the comments for this one in 2, clicked the wrong one,, but this is a keeper self installer. Nice creepy short and just plain weird.
Try it, rate it..I loved it.
how do I download
Well this is a perfect Play it latter, maybe this would have blow many minds back in 2007 and earlier but now the whole feels as some pretty maps, trying to be darky and murky all the way, definitely the average zombies in HL2 re not scary at all anymore….,
The good points on this are absolutely for the pretty nice design of the mansion, really nice gothic architecture made me feel Freeman was a tycon or a kind of Batman in his gothic home, but anyway this is like a funky crazy mapping kind of experimental to me.
I think this maps were better for Counter Strike Source or something like that
anyway this is a perfect Play it latter while Phillip is on vacation and there’s really few stuff to play.
