Well, that was a pleasant surprise! This is a great piece of work. The mapping and layout is very good and most areas feel exactly how they should. There’s plenty of nooks and crannies to explore without taking you too far away from the main objective.

There are a few double back areas that remind me of Half-Life and some almost “WOW” places, like the main reception area.

My only criticism would be that some areas don’t seem to merge or join very well with others. By this, I mean the design, rather than any obvious technical mistakes.

All in all this is highly recommended. It has a backstory, good looking design and some fun gameplay.

What more could you ask for?

  2. Play It Now!

Yup, really worth to be played. Very good episode, but short enough!

By the way, the author is Thobias Fast aka Forsete.

  3. Play It Later

Very easy mod, the idea is pretty good but I think it could have been longer.
I don’t really like the green hud or anything, but I’m glad this was actually a half-life mod since I never (NEVER) actually managed to install a mod on opposing force. I pretty much rushed through the entire thing, killing just a few monsters on my way.

I don’t know if this happened to anyone else, but the game had some kind of bug in the first elevator of the second map (right after getting the wrench). it just froze there and I had to kill the process with task manager. I tried multiple times and it did the same thing, so I just cheated my way to the next map in console. I don’t think I missed much, but whatever.

  4. Play It Now!

I can only agree with the reviewers before me..

This was an excellent episode. Both the fact that it had a little story element as well as very good design make this mod absolutely brilliant. He even used many Opposing Force monsters in his episode that also makes it worth while. Sad though that we didn’t get to see many of the original Half-Life monsters.

Also little sad that the scientist that rescued the player didn’t play a larger role like letting em escape together. But that’s ok.

Play it people you wont regret it.
Good work to the author and his beta testers.

A very good opposing force mod. The best thing is, you don’t need opposing force to play it!

  6. Barnz

Haven’t played anything this good in a long time.

  7. Play It Now!

It was really good fun and I highly recommend trying it.

  8. Play It Now!

I put it at 3hrs because it played it over the course of a few days.

This is a very fun mod, I miss all the opposing force enemy’s and weapons.

  9. Play It Now!

Wow that was better than I expected. As the author admits in the readme, the intial concept is lifted straight from Dark Operations, although I thought it was much better executed here, although shorter than that mappack.

Some of the architecture was really nice, giving the feeling of somewhere related to Black Mesa but still separate. I also liked alot of the little scripted bits, which really made it stand out as a high quality mod.

Some things I didn’t like included the way there were a lot of “fake” routes in many places. I do like it when things aren’t too linear, but it got a little frustrating when I kept coming to crossroads where every door was unlocked. I guess I’m just too indecisive! The way the mod was installed also glitched up the HD pack, some things were HD for me and others were not, but I guess that’s not really the modder’s fault. Finally I thought the ending was a little anticlimatic, perhaps the bit in the lift shaft would have made a nicer conclusion.

Don’t let these small faults get in the way of an otherwise enjoyable experience!

Really good little Opfor mod. Quite enjoyable to play

Here i’m also having problems, when I start the game I am totally stranded and the keys doesn’t appear in the key editor at all!!! help!

    1. Hec

I just update my wepping claim on this. I was able to solve the strand problem by copying the original config file of Hl1 in the config file of this mod. So then I was able to move.

But im afraid MAPTAP aplication must be updated due to this last valve’s update, I hope Phillip is aware of that I guess he is.

Well. After a hell and bloody experience trying too get this mod work, (due to the steam update related to HL1), I was able to run it without any trouble, after I pasted the original HL1 config file into the one in this mod, and that solved the horrendous stranding bug I had which it was not fault of the developers of this mod at all, it was valve’s fault, this time.

Anyway, is a medium lenght mod, but it is really fun to play, because it has op. force content so the weaponery is lovely and the x race aliens that you found in here are also cool to fight.

The battles are scattered but good ones, and the puzzles to solve were ok.

Is nice to have a little story to tell in any mod, and in here is the kind of GET OUT OF BM HELL AT ALL COSTS, which you, as Alan Shepard reach till the end.

Go on and play it, is entretaining and I think is a new creation for HL1, I mean this is from 2013 if I dont get wrong.

About the shortfalls, mmm, not much, tough sometimes design felt a bit boxy but it was ok.

  13. Play It Later

A fun little distraction overall. I knew this was a shorter mod going in, but I was still taken back by the abrupt ending. I thought it was building up to something more story wise, and then: boom! Done (seems to have happened in a lot of mods I’ve played lately).

Still, it was well laid out and furnished in map terms, and the way encounters were spaced apart provided for lots of tension. If you want something quick to play in-between larger mods, go for this one.

  14. Play It Later

As other mods did with Gordon, this mod puts an aswer to the question “What now?” that one asks himself when finishing the original game. It’s a good idea and has a good design, but it’s too short, it feels more like an epilogue for OF.

Note: can somebody explain how did Shepard end in Xen if he finished near an X portal?

    Play It Later

This one is a pretty solid Opposing Force pack, even though it installs as a regular HL mod. It’s a fun if not too challenging set of maps that will take less than an hour to play through.

The mapping is really solid and it genuinely feels like Black Mesa. Parts of it do feel a little cramped but everything looks good and is pretty polished.

The main fault I can find is the ending. I expected to finally face the gargantua that you see when you pass the lobby early on in the game. I think that would have made for a nice finale battle, even if we have faced thousands of gargs in the past in various mods.

This one is still definitely worth a play, particularly if you like OpFor.

  16. Play It Later

Wandering through my ‘Xen’ maps now, this one caught my eye with the good reviews. I can see why most folks liked it, though it’s not all that fantastic overall in my opinion because it kind of lacks any sense of urgency.

The maps were great, I did particularly like the setup on Xen – and kind of wished that more of the game had actually been set there instead of just platform-leaping and bidding it farewell forever.

The fights were all quite short, though some a bit more annoying than they needed to be due to the nature of the enemy – killing those guys that you get the hand device from, if you’ve already got the thing, the critter-gun will attempt to kill you. I’ve honestly never liked most of the non-Valve enemies, this was not an exception. Though honestly, since they only used the Gearbox enemies from OP4 and not all the rest, they weren’t as redundant as they had been in the full mod.

I felt like I’d missed a lot by not exploring certain areas, notably the lobby spot. Once I chose to head a direction it was clear I would not be going back there, it’s a very pretty map.

Good little mod, short but not so short, and doesn’t overstay its welcome. Play it.

  17. Play It Now!

Nice expansion of the opposing force mod! I like that I can get the shock roach early so I don’t have to manage the ammo. The map looks really nice, especially the building lobby and the outdoor areas. I like the ending that we really ‘escape’ instead of being warped to the strange area by Gman like HL1 and many mods..

  18. Think Twice

I commend the author for the effort put into this mod, the levels are very detailed – too a fault I’m afraid. It was nice to fight the ‘Race X’ aliens from Op4 – I’d almost forgotten about that spidery alien – but it needed not just more diversity in monsters but also amounts of them.

  19. Play It Now!

Easy combat overall, very detailed maps.
