OK as I said in comments under the recent Challenge download, this has been a SUPERB week for game play. And Tales From The Source is yet another reason why! don’t know what to do with myself now that its over…

If you haven’t played it yet, be prepared for (possibly) an emotional merry-go-round of opinion on this one, as you get immersed into a sometimes and I’m sure deliberately frustrating experience. But look at the layout, the design concept.

You are sent on a seemingly simple mission, and right away you experience roadblocks. Make sure to look around, and consider alternate less than obvious locations/ways. The author keeps the action going all the time, you will find yourself saying something along the lines of “will you please get out of my face???” Anyway, luckily there is lots of health and ammo around. Good thing.

Have fun! I sure did. Thank you for making this 🙂

This was pretty fun to play. And also follow my philosophy about good Half-Life Mods: “realistic story told simple and neat gameplay”. This whole little map has it all. An excellent layout with great use of the space, and clever beatable puzzles.

Also, the combat was pretty solid and fair from the beginning until the end. The last part, the escape part was also a perfect mix between combat and that rushed escape feeling, overall the story made it clear that those CMB were really pissed off with you because you took that special piece of technology in the turret.

So yeah it was a real joy to play this one, so give it a try, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

I played this mod twice and second time I managed to finish it.
Short mod, but very good and varied. Because of such mods I am still interested in Half-Life 2 series and even began making models for the game.

  4. Play It Now!

It was a verry fun experience with a perfect mix between progression, combat and thinking

didn’t directly know what to do at the end with the turret

I liked the rushing end 🙂

  5. Play It Now!

This is definitely one of the most unique maps I’ve played lately. Not only is the level design very interesting and smart, but the map looks great as well. The size of the map may seem very small at first, but due to the map’s clever design, you’re gonna spend around 30-40 minutes fighting off enemies and trying to find a way to move forward.

The combat is really well done on this one and I loved the “trench” kind of feeling you get from this map, which is original and keeps you on your toes.

My only nitpick would be that near the end, I got kind of annoyed because of the infinitely respawning enemies and due to the fact that at first, I couldn’t find the module anywhere…. This is only a minor issue though and it’s nothing compared to the smart design and the fun gameplay this map has to offer!

I definitely recommend checking this level out, and I’d love to see more “missions” by the mapper, Brett Johnson!

  6. All that fun and just 2meg download. Gotta say yes.

Lots of everything in small area. Enough action, little puzzles… And good rush at the end.

This is a good little map. But it doesn’t feel little because of the design which is really nice and a good combination of action and puzzles. Puzzles which aren’t frustrating too. If I’m honest, I don’t normally play levels like this because I find they lack that adventure element. However, I did enjoy this.
Sadly, I wasn’t sure about the ending with that module to find. That was a bit naff and I ended up rushing to the car like a cowardly chicken! It was a little overwhelming by now and those infite spawning enemies was a bad idea imho. It ruined the previous realism I thought.
Overall, a good map this and I enjoyed it considering it’s not something I normally enjoy.

One of the best maps i played. I think it’s very good and i recommend this one. My favorite part is battle with turret, because it haved fun. I think hardest part is end of the map, because there’s a lot of combine soldiers and player should escape through Gate 5 with turret module.

      Thank you for the review!
The combine aren’t infinitely spawning. But, if you try to rush past them without engaging, it could easily feel that way!

  9. Play It Now!

It took a little bit to figure out what it was that I needed to do, but once I did, all went smoothly from that point on. Don’t wait, play it now.

    Play It Now!

    Nicely designed mod!

  11. Cleverly designed map, clear goal – Awesome mod!

  12. Play It Later

Looks good for what is presented, limited visually but ok. Game play is good. Would rather the combine were dropped off as opposed to respawn but still good.

  13. Play It Later

this mod make me feel angry 4/5

  14. A good map. It has 2 endings so I just pay attention to a good ending:)
