This mod is a Partial Conversion of Half-Life 2. This means that you will not recognize most, if not all, of what you see and hear. I recognized the weapon sounds and the animation of the enemies but haven’t played enough or carefully enough to identify all the similarities between it and HL2.
I have included the PDF game document and the walkthrough in the download file, which is in the Microsoft PowePoint .ppsx format. You can get a free viewer here: PowerPoint Viewer 2007.

Yes Mario Notaro’s webpage has this mod listed & for download
I played a the 1st level which had alot of new skins on the former Rebels & even Alyx is given a makeover into a different character.
This is DA BOMB
This mod, feels really really unfinished. I would garner as much to say that its probably an alpha version.
My hat goes off to the team that made this as it is one of very few single-player mods to actually use new textures and models. However I found that in many instances it was executed poorly. The new enemies all looked very cool, I found the robots quite scary actually.
I wish the team would have found some new sound effects though (including weapon sounds) as you are instantly reminded that you are playing a HL2 mod when you hear a robot let out a headcrab cry. I also wish the team had gone to the effort of including voice acting. On the topic of dialogue, I would have also liked a bit more explanation at the start about what the hell is going on. There is obviously a story as the mod is set in a new universe, but I’m still baffled as to what it is. I’m immediately told to re-arm against… I don’t know what. They turn out to be robots and apparently I’m running into a portal. Why? I still don’t know, but it sent me to the enemy’s base it seems!
Gameplay was average. I’ve seen worse but I’ve also definitely seen better. There were some interesting puzzles but it wasn’t immediately obvious that I was supposed to be in “thinking” mode. The lift/vent puzzle had be really confused but it was a nice idea.
One minor note: while the alien/robot textures were cool, the doors were very difficult to distinguish as they looked like the rest of the wall.
Unfortunately I experienced two crashes and had to restart the game. The first was in the early street battle and the second was in the large red mechanical room with the jumping robots. I gave up after this, so this isn’t a full, fair review I must admit. There were also other bugs, like areaportal glitching in the re-arming building, and also bad use of player clipping so I was able to go places I wasn’t supposed to.
Not bad but definitely needs more polish. However, I do understand that this is a student project and so you had to work within certain constraints.
Personally didn’t care for it. It seemed to have little rhyme or reason or at least none that I could discern. Nevertheless, some of it was well done. It appears to have been made by a committee.
I really liked the idea! There were several crashs and I’m pretty sure that its becasue of the fast zombies headcrabs. Since they don’t ‘show” when they fall off the ‘victems” head, the game crashs. For a newer version, you could make there head (being the headcrab) fall off.
All in all, pretty fun and great new models and texture!
no.
Seems this one is getting some mixed recommendations, with most down the lower end of the scale.
What kinds of bugs are you encountering?
I played this a while ago but never completed it due to random crashes. I might continue because I really liked the atmosphere, felt almost nothing like HL2.
It crashes for me as well in the room with the spinning dial switches. It crashes every time after I do the second one, and all the fast zombies come running in. After I shoot 2 or 3 of them, CRASH! I can’t get past that point. Otherwise it was a fun mod.
o k played this agian
NO
after the 3rd crash I defrag, reboot, shut off everything but the game.althe crashes happened as I enter the street after gearing up,to start my glorious slaughter of the evil doers.
NO
blue screen memory dump ohmy.
me no like this my pc no like this:(
Looks great, a TOTAL conversion with cool new enemy, player and weapon models.
Desperately needs:
Facial animations
Sound effects (voice acting, robot walking/dying sounds)
TO NOT CRASH AFTER I KILL 4 ROBOTS.
How this could even be put up for download in its current state is beyond me. Has anyone even completed it yet?
O problems here except lag because of my vid card.
I was a bit confused about this mod when I downloaded it. I was very unsure of what was going on, and I am still am confused about it. From what I can tell its mankind versus machines where you attack some building to destroy some base.
Now I fire up the modification and I am greeted by a background from Half Life 2. Even the title of the mod on the main menu is just a collection of weapons. I assume that perhaps the font file wasn’t included in the zip file. Perhaps that could be stuck in the next version.
Anywho I loaded up the first map and got playing. The map was well made, very detailed but I think to an extent where it was over detailed and it made it hard to distinguish what was going on. But the mod brought some entirely new models, all the guns are different, there are no Half Life 2 models. Your friends look like spin-offs of combines. The enemy are giant robots which have the sounds of zombies and tripods which are good but I think some custom sounds might make it, the pistol has even been relocated to the left hand. And the crowbar has been replaced by some Predator type claw thing. Also when I scrolled through the weapon images they still have the old weapon images from Half Life 2. But the weapons look awesome and have some brilliant animations on them. Though I never got to fire the rocket launcher on it (shame…), I was too busy wondering if the absence of enemies at that point in the game might mean that perhaps I was going to go up against a whole enemy.
Though there was quite a lot of action, most of the game is played climbing this structure and taking on some dog robots that have the same sounds of the speed zombie. After you get so far up you kind of stop finding enemies to fight. And when your at the final point and entering in some codes to do something you are not even pushed attacked under it. Making whatever you are doing very easy, which is a shame really. As most of the map is very hard to figure out and there is little action so if you cannot figure it out you will probably just close down the mod.
There was no voice acting in it, you did start off with an Alyx type character trying to tell you what to do but it was all with screen text. But despite this most of the mod was empty of story or at all a clear one. From what I can tell you were just someone who worked their way through a machine processing plant and blew it up. But it might not have been a building plant it might have been the future Mc Donald’s food dispensing unit. There was no real drive to destroy this construction other then that’s all you could really do.
So over all, although an aesthetically pleasing map (apart from the last map which just seemed to be thrown together very quickly), the mod was quite a let down. Perhaps if your going to work on fixing bugs you could make some improvements on them.
It started OK but got repitisous after a bit.
SupaComix summed it up fairly well. I was plagued with constant crashing to the desktop. The game needs quite a bit of work still, especially with the operational files -scripts, resource files, and the like. For example, the wrong font is called out for the title screen. Many extra files that aren’t needed after release are included, also.
I’ll give it another shot when it comes back Ready For Issue. Until then, Ill just have to say…
I uploaded it because it hasn’t crashed once for me. Whilst I haven’t finished it I believe I am near the end.
I was referring to the makers of the mod actually.
Ok.
I did download this one about a week ago and tried it. My first real shock was when I started the first map and that girl (?!) walks over to me, that face!! And that she didn’t speak at all, but that I had to read the text of screen, was a second big disappointment, this was ok years ago, but with the editors of today (and especially hammer with hl2 you simply can’t get away with this anymore, that’s at least my opinion). I liked how the pistol looked in my hand, but it seemed that was at the same time the best modeled weapon because all the other weapons didn’t looked good at all.
I stumbled over bug after bug, found my way blocked by other npc’s just to end up in a huge crash that made my (very expensive) pc shock. I stopped playing, but 2 days later I wanted to try it again, I fought my way through 2 more crashes, crashes that didn’t gave a blue pc screen as written above but it didn’t suffer much less.
so, I also am very, VERY disappointed and amazed at the same time that the makers of this mod did put in so much time, (because it clearly shows that this took months or probably even a year to make), but that they don’t go all the way (read Beta testing) but decided to release it like this. what is that?! a car factory also doesn’t make a great car, just to release it then with no wheels. this mod has a similar feeling to me. a real shame!!!! really, it could have so much potential, now its just another waste of effort. what a shame!!!
sorry to the makers, I hate to speak like this about someones work, but, i’m just honest!

This mod is good but it have some bugs in the third level so this mod is just for people how like mods with bugs but I really enjoyed playing it.
I liked this mod. The fact that it is a student project sets some realistic expectations.
But there is more creativity and polish in Surgical Strike than in many mods.
The enemies and environments have enough substance to be used for another mod or two.
My only beef was that it was buggy. HL would crash sometimes when I was battling the critters that sound like fast zombies. Near the end, it would crash every minute or so. I got by with very frequent saves.
Still, a very nice piece of work, and I look forward to more stuff by Mario.
I played it through to the end, but was forced to cheat eventually (otherwise the crashes would have turned me off).
I had 1 crash in the first part, and LOADS of crashes with the dog robots (read fast zombie), I think the problem is with a dying animation (probably something missing), since the game would always crash when I shot the dog robots in the head…
Eventually, I impulsed 101 and used the secondary fire for the energy ball, that took care of the crashes…
It’s a nice effort, and quite original, but very badly implemented… you can try it for kicks, but be ready for frustration…
Thanks to everybody who played this Mod. I do apologize for the crashes that can happen a bit too frequently on some machines as well.
Without trying to make excuses for some of the unfinished characteristics of the mod, there are some things to take into account:
1) There were only 8 of us.
2) We only had 4 months.
3) We were students that had never one anything like this before and were all still learning our respective specialties.
4) We had next-to-no instruction on how to import models, animations, etc. into hammer and make it work with the engine.
Ok, so I guess that was making excuses. Anyway, I’m glad some of you enjoyed some aspects of the mod. I am still proud of it for what it is and again thank you for playing it.
-Mario
On first play through I found this very irritating.
The path to play was not easy to find especially at the beginning and I did not finish.
I came back to this and was surprised to find I quite enjoyed it.
It’s a manoeuvering and path finding challenge.
The combat is hard but satisfying.
This game takes an awful lot of patience to play.
You need to quick save and try things out a lot before you find out where to go and what to do.
Your patience will be rewarded.
A very imaginative mod let down by some glaring technical issues.
With some polish this could and would be in most peoples play it now/personal favourites list. Most of the issues have been covered by other people so I wont go into all that. I got round the crashes by playing the 3rd section of the mod (with the reskinned fast zombies) in god mode and just used the melee weapon on them.
The absolute must see moment of this mod is as you are going down in the elevator and you see the bases defences swarming to meet you. Made up for all the flaws.
The puzzle locks were a nice touch too.
Would anyone happen to still have this mod or be able to upload it somewhere? I can’t seem to find it, both hosting websites don’t work.
This modification does have a lot of issues such as crashing, and a relatively big file size, but it does have some good qualities to it.
Pros:
1.Sci-Fi Weapons
2.Sci-Fi Atmosphere
3.Cool Custom N.P.C. Designs
4.Surgical Strike Looks To Be At Least A Partial Conversion Modification
Cons:
1.Crashes Are Frequent
2.The Lighting Could Be A Little Better
3.Surgical Strike Has Relatively Big File Size For Being A Fairly Small Modification
If anyone is interested as well I have found out how to remove all those words, and numbers from the screen that appear and are intrusive. I believe the problem is the mod may been in “Developer Mode”, and perhaps the developer forgot to take Developer Mode off.
If Surgical Strike has an autoexec.cfg which you can locate in the directory of Surgical Strike there should be a folder labelled CFG Folder that is what you need to look for. You will need to have NotePad installed double click on the autoexec.cfg, and now use the code, net_graph 0.
This should remove the intrusive text from both this mod, and any other mods you may come across. I just wanted to mention this because I know that this can be a bit of a problem.
