Short but pretty sweet. Definitely worth a play if you love Black Mesa. Looks like a few guys are still making these types of maps, which is great.

It’s not prefect; the radioactive sludge is in the room with the two scientists but stuff like that doesn’t matter in maps like these.

It is pretty hard though, even on EASY I really struggled and spent a good 5 minutes on 2 health points.

Will probably only take you 10 minutes to play, but all that nostalgia makes up for it.

  2. Play It Now!

Excellent map, great level design, few puzzles, not too easy combat, just perfect. Even tho I knew it wasn’t very long, it kinda ended soon. Other than that, Valve quality map, a must play.

  3. Wesp5

Overall a good map, but I have two issues: 1) It’s much too dark most of the time. This is especially obvious in the room with the glowing slime. 2) I didn’t see a button to remove this slime and rather did it accidentally only after I crossed it jumping already two times!

  4. Play It Later

short but fairly enjoyable design is good and not repetitive
I didn’t have any issue because it’s too dark just figure out what was next and suddenly tought about the sientist

    Play It Now!

Play it now, because is simple and good small quality map, just a fair goal, and you go to xen, this map optimize the size so good, and make that u play all the parts of it.

  6. EmoLevelDesigner

Another Black Mesa map. The player is one of the survivors, and the goal is to reach the surface.

The map is excellently done. The architecture is beautiful and various. The Xen looks very spectacular. The atmosphere is supported by ambient sounds, layout is not hard to find a way in. The battles are very challenging, but still not too hard. All in all it’s beyond praise. The exploration is pure enjoyment, and the author understands it and gives part of the map for it.

  7. Play It Now!

I really liked it! Perhaps it was being so long away from a decent HL1 map, it was a lot of fun being in the old graphics and gameplay again. Some nice design layout here.

  8. Play It Later

Really great looking map with some pretty impressive architecture and texture work. The atmosphere is spot on with a great placement of ambient sound effects. It’s a bit dark but overall it’s not too bad.

It’s a quite challenging map with a few tough sections most of them containing groups of alien grunts. However, it’s not unfair and there’s usually a few items and weapons around the station to aid you in your journey.

    Play It Later

Fun map very remiscence of many releases, nothing new or unique but challenging in its own way.

  10. Play It Now!

Short and sweet, definitely enjoyed this one. A nice challenge as well, enough health, especially since the scientists can give you a boost if needed. All in all a fun play.

  11. Play It Later

Good map, pretty short (—> tiny filesize) but excellent interior and mapping, definitely worth playing as a little snack in between other longer maps/mods 🙂

    Pro’s:
    -Very good leveldesign
    -A few puzzles
    -Challenging but less combat (Grunts!)
-Good feeling / atmosphere at the very beginning, exciting throughout whole map
-Small download, give it a try!

    Con’s:
-No HEV at start… …but not really necessary here! (Just saying)
    -Short playtime
    -Less weapons, enemytypes

    Play It Later

Although I’m going to say Play It Later, this map also hit a couple of sore spots for me. All too often you’re prevented from going somewhere by invisible walls. The backtracking got to be a little much (although to his credit the author used the available space in his map very well) – especially with the cheap-spawn-right-behind-you-silently-aliens.

The good parts? Everything else. Black Mesa looks great in this map – particularly well done is the lighting. Other than the invisible walls, the architecture itself is solid and there are nifty events scattered throughout to help with the atmosphere.

The beginning dragged on a little too long, but that’s not much of a complaint. And there’s no (human) grunts to battle, which is kind of a relief from typical HL gruntfests. In all, this one is worth playing for a good trip back to Black Mesa, and it’s good to see maps like this are still being made.

  13. Play It Now!

Well, this map could be one of my favorite HL1 maps ever, and that is for many reasons.

First of all, the mapping is superb. Especially the Xen-Black Mesa area. Navigating through BM never feels boring or poorly done in this map. The lighting is also excellent. The combat was nicely done too, though when you first get the crowbar, it can get a little bit unfair.

Do I hate anything about this map? Well, the only problem I noticed was the invisible walls, but that’s not really major.

Overall, I definitely recommend this map. It’s a blast to play and it’s a great way to spend 15-20 mins of your time on something new.

  14. Play It Now!

The map uses its space very well. The use of portals is a nice idea. The combats with the alien grunts are tough to me since I don’t have much health and ammo when I face them. If there are more health kits or a revolver gun, then it will be easier to hunt the grunts.
