A short, one-area puzzle mod, which will require some sharp thinking.
It was made in 9 days for a competition.
Even though this is a hard map the reward is great!
- Title: Station Well
- File Name: hl2-ep2-sp-station-well.7z
- Size : 1.10MB
- Author: Elektryk
- Date Released: 23 July 2011
I played this when it first came out and couldn’t beat it. Yesterday I posted on Twitter to see if anybody wanted to play it with me. GreyAcumen contacted me immediately, which is great because he is very good with puzzles, and we played at the same time and chatted via Steam voice chat. We beat the map and it was a fun experience.
Here are my recommendations:
Puzzle Lovers: Play on your own and only seek help if you can’t beat it.
Puzzle Enjoyers: Consider finding somebody to play with at the same time. It’s fun to find the solution together.
Puzzle Haters: Move along, nothing to interest you here.
If somebody really needs help I will provide a hint in the comments.
- Copy station_well.bsp into your Half-Life 2: Episode Two Maps folder.

Anyway, I found the puzzles quite hard but more or less obvious once you had the solution. There is only one part with potential combat, so don’t expect that aspect, in fact, I had zero combat, so it’s not always present.
The ending is the funniest ending in a mod I have ever played. I am smiling now as I type.
Enjoy.
The design is not impressive – everything is somewhat flat and rectangular.
We’re solving the puzzles around the magical well. I liked that the puzzles are not like usual, when I have to search for something hidden. What I had to do was explained very well. There was still some thinking, but it was smooth and without impasses.
Unfortunately, there was some search for hidden things after the teleportation. And the interfering enemy is also not nice.
I enjoyed the smooth puzzle solving which was before the teleportation.
Once you figured out that you have to
put stuff in the well
, the rest was pretty easy-ish. I found the puzzles very enjoyable and I recommend this map to everyone.
It is worth a mention that the ending is funny.
Oh now this is a great, fun little map.
I had absolutely no problem solving the puzzles, the clues are all right there for you. It was a little head-scratching to see the additional… enemy appear somewhere other than where anything else had, but still, that was quite fun.
And yes – hilarious ending!
Good for a few minutes of thinking, but definitely not for folks who only want maps to shoot stuff.
the puzzle was interesting, but for me the ending was very flat. Also the very end creeped me out, it just felt wrong that that was the reward.
Quite fun to play, and the ending is certainly original.
A good-looking, short puzzle map to exercise that grey matter between ones ears and dispel those cobwebs!
I must admit to believing a ” magical-well” is a new addition to the ” Half-Life” universe!
First off a quick moan: This map was so dark I had to turn everything up to play it in daylight and that first step was a doozy!
The well was a hoot to mess with and an obvious puzzle once that first gift was obtained, but so funny when the wrong action was taken. An irked well! Ha ha!
Then it’s a case of following the recipe, a little bit of academia, teleportation and a surprise!
Then it’s off to gain the reward Phillip mentioned.
“Oh Boy!” as Sam Beckett would say……………….
PS. I got the combat!
killed by the antlion. not having any weapons except a crowbar and no suit to sprint with makes it too tedious to replay. does anyone have a youtube link to someone playing it so I can see the ending?
Didn’t you save earlier? I was really lucky because the antlion guard was at the other end of the roof and didn’t bother me.
For me it was waiting by the hole, so I had to get past it after taking a couple of big hits. The run in and open that fence door quick!
I hit it with the crowbar and let it chase me to the outside ladder which I went down. Then I snuck back up the other ladder from inside and it didn’t notice me
this mod makes absolutely no sense… a1+C? umm what?
Alcohol+coal
clever
Um…Or Aluminium and carbon, if you interpret the letters as elements. Most cans are made of Aluminium these days.
That’s what I took it for.
I too was completely lost on this.
The only thing I could work out was that the battery I had seen in the jail cell was needed to power the gate below.
For some reason I couldn’t crouch jump up into the building, is this clipped? because I’m pretty sure I should be able to crouch jump that high.
It’s infuriating… and therefore not fun.
Much more player direction needed also..
I found this to be a very enjoyable, yet frustrating, puzzle map. I defiantly liked the way the player could mess around with the well, and all of the vidual indicators that you were doing something wrong were also nice. However, the reason this isn’t a play it now is because of the
Antlion on top of the building.
which I found to be very difficult, as it is hard to figure out what you’re going to do while danger is so close by. Also, if anyone is still having trouble figuring out where to go, this guide might help :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwRfxDCvzAo
Hi, I’m the author of this map I would like to thank for all comments. And especially I want to thank for making that walkthrough because I can see some bugs that never appeared when I tested my map.
Firstly they should by a fade out from black at the beginning. Also when I played the gas cylinder never hit the skybox like on the movie. And finnaly there is a strange gap between the fault and the floor. That teach me that I should watch someones walkthrough by releasing next map.
Definitely a clever map, with a really clever puzzle, is cool, and involve some basic maths that could be confusive at certain point but even tough the solution is easier that u can imagine, so play it because is a cool refreshment and rest between all the bloddy mayhem we’re used to in HL combat, so it’s cool.
About the end I imagine somethin pretty psychodellic but I never imagine Gordon Freeman or whoever it was, could get: well u will see!!, cool for that peculiar and definitely different to other ending u could ever have.
As someone else said, pretty good if you like puzzles. Well executed.
For me it was initially frustrating, because I was pushing the wrong key to pick up an object (hadn’t played HL in a while).
Once I figured out how to pick up objects, it was fun figuring things out. (But fitting the rectangular solids into their slots was difficult, UI-wise.)
Then I came to the end, and couldn’t get
the antlion guard to go away from the doorway,
though I tried replaying several times. Eventually gave up.
(Edit: OK, I tried one more time and finally got past him, with lots of bruises. Gotta swing that crobar fast and true!)
Yeah, the ending was a bit odd. Whatever.
as recommendation says P I L but its worth a little brain exercising, I admit I did have some trouble figuring out the 3rd one, in the locked room, bad flashbacks looking at the X + Y = Z hated it in school 30 years ago, hate it now !
This is a pretty nice puzzle map! The environment was nice, the puzzles were VERY hard though, but still great. It reminded me a lot of point and click games, like The Longest Journey or the Monkey Island series. The part that was a pain in the ass though was the last fight with the Antlion Guard. There’s not a lot of room to fight him and it’s WAY out of place.
Overall, this map is mostly great (apart from the last part), but if you’re more into combat maps, then you should probably stay away.
Interesting well! I like the puzzles.

Not really a fan of puzzle maps. I like more of a mix. I was board after the first puzzle. Looks good. Gameplay, not for me.
