You start in a small storage room and have to work you way out.
There is a larger outside area where you battle Combine soldiers and a hunter-chopper, that takes a lot of hits to bring it down.
After that you are off for a jump puzzle.

THIS MOD IS HARD! WOW, the hunter-chopper took around 12 hits before it came down. I had trouble with the ladders and had to cheat to make the last jump.
All-in-all, not a bad little map but not as satisfying as it could have been.
The battle in the middle was good but that perhaps should have been at the end, because the end was an anti-climax.
Aside from the chopper bit I found this map easy.Even the jumping wasn’t hard and I suck at it.Ladders were buggy for me as well and had to resort to crouching and jumping when reaching the top.All in all not bad but needs work and more play time.
The chopper was a much too hard and something like that is not fun and should be avoided. Especially combined with the buggy ladders in the same arena.
Can anybody tell me how to get out of the first two rooms. I can’t find a crowbar, and there’s not enough bullets.
See image 4. Basically you throw the crate at the door and it will break the wood. I used the corner of the create but I don’t know if that makes a difference.
BTW, I removed your recommendation image becasue they are for when you have finsihed (Or completely given up) a mod.
Can sombody tell me if there is a crowbar somewhere?
Also I couldn’t get the suit helath powerup on the top shelf. I tried throwing stuff but couldn’t do it. I suppose I should have tried breaking the shelf with the cretae, DOH!
Thanks PP, I’ll give it a try.
BTW: I got the powerup by simply shooting at the crate on the shelf.
I think I have to agree with wesp5 here.Once in the open area the fight is ridicoulessly hard, even without the chopper. The buggy ladders don’t help either.I give up.
So if I may now….
I agree with you. I normally just stop playing when things are this tough but for some reason I carried on.
I played on “easy”, I’d hate to think how hard it would be on “hard”!
There is a crowbar but how you get it without a cheat I am not sure. There now follows a spoiler.
Spoiler Alert:
The opening scene in the first room before you jump down to the floor. Look to the opposite wall you will see two high mounted shelves, the left hand one has the crowbar.
How you get up there without noclip I dont know, was the ladder on the floor meant to work?
3? shots to one of the shelf supports is all I did to get the crowbar.
hated this one, got to the gun ship and !@#$@ this, but after reading the comments ill give it another try, maybe all this is good, puzzle and fights that are more than run n gun. but its early and it could just be !@#$ this and of to minerva
well after playing it agian it seems to make more sense, only got to the gunship though and put more than a dozen rockets in it and called it a night,i’m gonna finish this!!!!!
o k i’m starting to like this one but, what to do after I enter the hall with the white light went back to the yard back to the hall this the end?
I small but very intense map with lots of action and a few puzzles to sort out. it’s takes a bit of endeavor to get through but it’s well worth the effort and whilst it hard at time it’s doable without cheats.
From the way that the end is structured I assume this is only part 1.
for the crowbar…it’s just ned a little sense about the chooper it makes always a special sound before shooting but to get pass on medium it took me 30 min now i’m with the ladder in the corner and I suppose I need to run and jump in the way back of screen 13… I have try it 20X without success I will try another time tomorrow
I started enjoying Simple Etape from the beginning because there are puzzles in the first room and it’s not as simple as picking up the weapons right in front of you. There isn’t much of a story and you will begin in a small dark room where apparently you climbed through a window to get there. There is some resistance in the sewers, a stubborn helicopter, some clever jumping puzzles and it abruptly ends at the white light. That’s it. I felt it was rather short but maybe there will be a continuation.
All the content in Simple Etape is re-used from the original Half-Life 2 game. The mapping really resembles the sewer levels in Half-Life 2 so well that it seems like a hidden or lost level that should have been in the game. Also the mapping is very clever in allowing Combine to appear in unexpected areas and the object placement is done in realistic fashion allowing the player to use them offensively or defensively. Everything is created in a logical way like debris and wrecked cars left in the sewage areas. The mapper really took time to place everything in a fashion to immerse the player.
The game-play is very intense ranging from intimate struggles with a zombie using only a crowbar, or trying to take down a group of Combine one by one with a pistol. Taking cover is the best strategy because there are unexpected enemies scattered about in all directions. The creator also took into account just enough ammo and health to keep the game moving without the player having to backtrack or reload every 5 seconds with the exception of the helicopter boss. I had to reload at least 20 times to finally take him out.
Negatives:
– Difficult mini-boss
– Very short
– Trick jumping
Positives:
– Intense action
– Decent mapping
– Clever puzzles
Conclusion:
I’ll probably never replay Simple Etape unless there is a continuation due to the shortness of the mod. I enjoyed it but it really is a one time experience. Replaying will most likely result in a duplicate experience, but I’m going to give it a “play now” because it was designed really well and is still packed with action. If the creator asked me how he could improve it I would tell him to add at least two more levels with the same theme, save the mini-boss for the end, and maybe include some custom content. Otherwise, good job.
I quite enjoyed it, but to be honest didn’t finish the last room. I tried and tried to jump, and never got out of the corner (with the ladder) had to resort in frustration to noclipping and was disappointed to find that the end was only just around the corner. The map was really very promising and I for one look forward to seeing a more ambitious map/mod from this developer.
I remember playing this but I am not sure why. In general, I forget most maps after I have played them.
Anyway, it was quite fun for 15 or so minutes and the hunter chopper needs quite a few hits to bring it down.
The jumping puzzle at the end was pretty good.
All in all, this is simply too short and as part of something larger would have been fine.

“Buggy” affecting gameplay always reduces the rating. In this case the jump and the inexplicable lack of ending after loading a new map and going down a corridor, bothered me way more than the gunship (which actually became enjoyable after dying a few times and trying again/figuring out the way).

I dont like this: Pistol ammo small, how to break planks with 10 ammo? ; many metrocops with 2 ammo, i got pistol ammo but combine soldiers already fight, helicopter HP, i shoot them 3 minutes.
Sorry for english i`am not learn them

You don’t need the pistol to break the planks, there is a crowbar.
I liked this a lot. Shame it wasn’t longer. Spoiler Alert: At the start it is actually possible to jump from the ledge you are on at that first shelf with the crowbar and catch it on the way down. you can then use it to demolish the shelves from the ground. Helicopter wasn’t too hard, just kept hiding away under the archway and popping out when it wasn’t looking. As for the difficult end jumps. I used the barnicle to get me up to that awkward ledge and the last one was doable with a regular jump. Odd ending, could have gone on to greater things.
The platforming was a little too hard for me. I did enjoy the combine battles, but the bird in the air was too hard. The ending was a real white out for me. I didn’t find the crowbar until I looked at the reviews.
I did jump into the water as I thought that was next place to go. Ha Ha leaches.
Not all bad and not all good. I think “Maybe” is fair. Depends on if you are hardcore enough.

The start was good and alright, but after jumping the metal rail props, everything went to HELL pretty quick. Besides the buggy ladders and the horrible placement of enemies in distance with a huge HP this choppa had to kill it, it was a nice experience.
I died so many times trying to get some cover while fighting the choppa with ONLY 5 HP. After defeating it, suddenly a combine soldier spawns right behind me. God. I screamed.
The sewers section was OK as well. However, one part of the corner people wouldn’t be able to make that jump. The design had its flaws, but it’s a nice map.

Well there were some interesting ideas here but the execution is awful, I hate to say it. The starting room is the prime example: yes, there is a crowbar hidden in the room, and if you don’t get it before exhausting your paltry pistol ammo you’re stuck right at the start. Poorly designed, especially when the crowbar itself is not obvious and in fact rather hidden.
From there, it leads out to a small arena in which you’re trapped at the bottom. There’s some cover but the ladders are broken and soon you’re up against not only Elites but a chopper as well, that took a good 15+ rockets to bring down. Just boring.
As I said, this one isn’t totally awful but there were terrible decisions made during design that could have really made this one decent.

This is kind of a weird case. It’s not that bad of a map, and you’ll probably have some fun playing it, but there’s not a lot more to say about it. Some of its ideas are ruined by small things, like f.e. the jump section could have been better if there weren’t any barnacles. Also, was it necessary to hide the crowbar in the first room? Most people would keep shooting the wood planks because they wouldn’t think otherwise…
The architecture and the lighting are pretty basic, and some times the map can feel a bit claustrophobic at times. The combat isn’t anything special though.
Overall, if you want to play a HL2 map that has a tiny bit of variety in it and doesn’t last very long, then try this one out.
Well, this was like a trip to the past. This whole map is very, very old school. In parts, like the beginning, it feels like a Half-Life1 logic map. Then the peak battle at the middle of the map feels quite OK though a bit static, and the end came so soon and quite rushed.
There are a bit annoying things in this map like many of the other commentators have stated. Even a superb impossible hard jump at the end, which again, made me think in some old school HL1 maps that actually use mapping environment inside the gameplay itself.
The visuals are also a blast to the past, in a very feeling of any HL2 City 17 setting.
All an all this is a perfect Play it Later.

A map with some ideas here and there, but not executed that well.
You can get stuck in the first room of the map. If you don’t have enough pistol ammo anymore, you can’t get the crowbar. Why not just give the player the crowbar?
The first battle against the Metrocops is quite weak. Basically one rock to hide behind and it is quite possible that you run out of ammo before killing them all and having to mash them with your crowbar.
The next area is the big combat area; you are getting shot at from all directions. This was the map’s best part. But when the Chopper arrived, it started going downhill again. The Chopper has WAY too much health, not in the sense that it makes the battle harder, but in the sense that it makes it too long. You will be shooting the Chopper for about 3+ minutes with nothing else to do.
After this, the map has a platforming section which would take about 20 seconds to complete if it wasn’t for one jump which is nearly impossible to make. You will either jump against the wall or hit the ladder and plummit all the way down.
This is a map with some decent visuals and a few good gameplay parts, but overall it just doesn’t really work.
