Generally I don’t like scary mods – I’m a pu**y – I admit it. I prefer a different style of gameplay, but I have to admit I really enjoyed this one. It was more spooky than downright scary. This min-review contains spoilers.
Visuals
Surprisingly it’s not particularly dark, which is good, because that means the interesting parts have to be more than some enemy jumping out of a cupboard.
Gameplay
A little action with mostly exploring. The spooky bits are well done and it contains one of my favourite moments of the year (I’ll start collecting them from January next year and create a proper post), with the door thingy.
Layout and Design
Varied enough to keep it interesting, but limited.
Summary
There’s possibly not enough action for some players but I really liked the little touches. That makes it a Play It! in my book.
Clean underwear at the end!
over all I give this one map, (its one map) Play it now!
not because it was that good, but it deserves more then a Play it later. the mapping was ok although it could have a bit more detail, but that’s just personal. not like you Phillip am I a real horror sucker. can’t get enough of it! and although there were some cliche scary effects in this one, they were placed well enough to still make you scare a little bit. well dosed. and don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against cliche scary effects. most scary/horror effect we all have seen before, what is no problem at all, they still can work, and in this map they do.
my main problem I had with this map is that there is no health placed at all, or it should be that I missed it. but I don’t think so because just before the end I did get killed, so I had to play it twice, because there are also no auto save points. I am not complaining about this, I just noticed it.
about the health, there should be placed some because you have to fight against 10 combines or so, in one room, and about the same amount of combines, in a total black hall. that last thing I didn’t liked. that we have seen to often, a total dark place with combines in it. its more frustrating as it is scary, because of the flashlight that keeps getting out of battery.
all in all it was amuzing, like Phillip said not really scary, but more spooky. and it was a bit small. and I nearly forgot to say that you are right phillip, that one door effect was indeed nicely done, won’t tell more for spoiler effect. but I too thought it was well done, first time I played it I even thought I was the one who did see it wrong. classic effect, small and very effective!

A nice bit of fun. Very short though. Yes health pick ups are short on the ground but there aren’t enough enemy to kill you anyway – there are enemies, mind.
Not a PIN, a PIN to me this means drop everything and play it now. Wheras a PIL means it’s worth a go when you find some time when you are free.
In the console after finishing it says “Can not find map “Sickening_Sanity_Sewers2” . Well maybe it was supposed to have another map but the author removed it from the final release. Anyway pretty damn good .
im having trouble here.. I load it in the console map sickening_sanity but it wont load and say this “CModelLoader::Map_IsValid: Map ‘sickening_Sanity” bsp version 20, expecting 19
map load failed: Sickening_Sanity not found or invalid”
help me!
Do you have full, legal versions of the game. It seems that sometimes this error is caused by pirate copies. If you do have legal versions, has it been updated recently? It might also be worth trying to open the map in EP1 or EP2.
Let us know what ahppens.
Also, I deleted your thread in the forums, because you are not allowed to post threads about maps or mods if they have a post on the main site. I know you really need help but splitting the resources doesn’t help other users. ALso, everybody who visits the forum also visits the main site.
ok I didn’t know that.. ^_^” I guess I’m just desperate to solve this problem… well I actually don’t know if my game it’s a pirate copie.. I got it from a friend years ago.. it’s from a burned DVD..
Nevermind! I solved the problem…well not me thanks to phillip.. I needed to update my game.. thx 😀
This map was very short and incoherent. It also had bare environments. Perhaps a bit more optimization would have helped. For some reason I had frame rate drops.
The map had a few cheap thrills, and a few interesting departures from the norm. The whole thing feels unfinished and rushed in terms of gameplay and design.
I usually play on hard mode first. There was not enough ammo for me to deal with the Combine forces. I had to drop it down to easy to dispatch them. That sucked. You should always play your own maps on hardest mode to accommodate everyone’s preferences.
Meh. Walk through some sewers; a few combine in one room; a few slow zombies in another; abrupt end of map. Ten minutes of uneventful game play. It’s clear that the authors have mapping ability, but I’m afraid this really isn’t worth the download.
Some combat sequences here and there, but for the most part, this map is all about exploring a creepy area. Some interesting transitions between areas, but for the most part, it’s pretty straightforward.
Unfortunately, just as it starts to pick up some steam, it ends [rather depressingly and abruptly, I might add].
Give it a run if you enjoy a bit of creepiness to your Half-Life experience.
I didn’t enjoy it.
Early on I came to a dark area full of zombies (after a poor and inexplicable tranisition), so I hopped on a junked car from which I could hit them but they couldn’t hit me, which was as frightening as an Easter picnic, then I explored until the flashlight ran down, waited for it to recharge, then explored until the flashlight ran down, waited for it to recharge, then explored until the flashlight ran down, waited for it to recharge, then explored until the flashlight ran down, waited for it to recharge, then explored until the flashlight ran down,… you get the idea. Mods with flaws like this aren’t worth grinding past this kind of very poor design issue, imo.

It’s actually worth playing, but it’s short and don’t expect to be wowed. I wish the Sickening_Sanity_Sewers2 map had been included, then maybe I would have given it a better recommendation.
The transition after you kill the combine was pretty inexplicable, but whatever. I thought the fact that the locations were actually tied together to be clever. (I thought the door effect was just bad mapping; silly me. :))
I enjoyed this one more or less from start to finish. It was creepy with some effects that reminded me of F.E.A.R. Waiting for the flashlight to recharge and running out of ammo were annoying. This one is worth playing (more or less).
Phillip, you mentioned putting together a collection of your favorite moments. Did you collect enough of them for a post?
Didn’t care for this one. I didn’t like the transitions, maybe if there actually was a continuing Part 2 it might have improved.
I thought this oldie looked quite interesting but it wasn’t much good in the end I’m sorry to say. I did like the simple puzzles which didn’t hamper gameplay but, overall, it didn’t really lead to much. Nice “creepy” effects but it was often annoyingly too dark and a shame it ends so abruptly too.
