You find yourself back in Black Mesa and part of an Army grunt team, although you don’t get to meet many of them.
There’s very little objective, except keep moving forward and stay alive.
Keep looking for the lambda signs and explore every little nook and cranny!

This is a competent release, but there is definitely something lacking and I can’t quite put my finger on it.
The whole thing is quite grey and more colour or light would have been nice. That said, it looks authentic but sometimes authentic is boring and needs a little razzle dazzle.
I don’t know if I stupidly missed it but I never had a vest and therefore a HUD or the night vision. It didn’t really matter except for one moment.
I found one “issue” where I had very low health and had to drop down a shaft. The drop always killed me, and there was no health to be found anyway. I had to resort to GOD mode for that moment, which was a shame.
Overall, this was fairly fun the play and I suspect you probably would enjoy it.
It was… ok.
@Phillip: I suggest you to take more time when playing something. The combat west was next to your spawn point on a green box along with a knife on the sandbags and a pistol to your right.
Ah I did play that yesterday… What a fantastic mappack it’s certainly one of the best Op4 mappacks released in a long time..
This one has great mapping and some areas reminded me of the Blue Shift sewer areas. There are also some neat scripts used inside the maps such as a Barney and scientist getting attacked by a shock trooper etc..
Unfortunately the mappack is a little hard. Ammo is really a luxus in this one. So make sure that every shot counts people.
Another great thing:
It features nice secrets in hl2 style so make sure to check out every vent , every door each box and corner & every puddle as you may find some useful weapons in some of those. And save your nades you’re going to need them as soon as you run out of regular ammo. I’ve killed 12 monsters with 10 nades at one point. 🙂
In the later levels ammo wont be a problem anymore however then medpacks will be a real issue so like I said before make sure to check every corner as you will find weapons and ammo there. The Deagle + pistol could become useful later on again when you face Black Ops.
This mappack is actually quite long and due to the increased difficulty it took me like 30 or 40 minutes to play it through. I suggest each one of you to set a skill setting of 1 or 2. I did play it on skill 3 and that was clearly to hard.
Never the less a fantastic mappack and it’s for Opposing Force what could we ask more for?
Looking at the screen-shots I thought it was going to be better than it was. don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it but as Phillip has already said
The only thing that comes to mind is the Bugs Bunny quote “should have made a left toin at Albukoykee”! (which is about 250 miles south-west of Black Mesa State Park funnily enough).
Yes it did look like BM and felt familiar, but it just didn’t have the wow factor that the release date above suggests it should, unless of course the release date is incorrect. Also if the date is correct then I would have not expected a mod of this length to be started from the console.
Even on easy this can be a little hard at times, so you need to think before rushing in and some parts require backtracking (which I don’t like, when you don’t have a choice).
All of that said for an OP4 mod this is really well above some of the real dogs out there.
I enjoyed this one a LOT. It was quite tough in spots, very challenging, but at the same time very enjoyable and fairly balanced in terms of “running around looking for health” and “shooting things cleverly and running away”. Down to 2 hp and 1 bullet, and I *still defeated those pesky Vorts*. I felt very, very proud of myself. 😀
Anyway I thought it did bear a lot of similarity to HL1, OP4 and everything, I got the “feel” of it. It was very dark, through the whole thing – few spots where there would have been bright lighting though.
I highly recommend this, it’s well worth playing.
We find ourselves in the Black Mesa, nearby there’s an ally who was less fortunate than us. We take the pistol, vest, knife and go to do feats.
The design is atmospheric and pleasing. There are original elements, but it’s not too far from Black Mesa feel. There’s an ominous silence. It’s quite dark, but this can be easily fixed by raising the monitor’s brightness. Some places are similar to original Half-Life, they make the Black Mesa feel stronger. Sometimes we meet secrets in HL2 style: there’s a lambda sign beside. The only obvious flaws are incorrectly textured door and a crate which will hang in the air if you break the crate under it.
There is no story development, but design and progression are interesting and various enough to keep us engaged. The ventilation systems are the most impressive, I think they are much better than similar locations from Half-Life 1 and Opposing force.
Alien Slaves, headcrabs and zombies attack us, so it’s easy to play using only the knife. It would be funnier if we had a wrench. Knife-only walkthrough ends when we meet Black Ops. Well-timed grenade throws come in handy here.
All in all, it’s a remarkable mod which will give pleasant dive in Black Mesa to anyone who has Opposing Force.
It’s good but not great. There were too many rooms and areas that you could explore but not actually do anything, so it got a little boring for me. Ammo was really short at one stage, so I had to rely on my trusty knife for quite a while. Overall the quality was pretty good and it is worth playing but don’t expect too much
This is my first OpF mod i’ve ever played and it was not bad, it felt more like an almost official add-on for the very original OpF, that was cool but there are only one thing for me that make me put this a PL better than a PN rate, and that’s the poor combats and the lack of the splendid new ennemys and weapons OpF offers!, and that whole point is a criticalone, and a shame because I love those XRace ennemys better than the classy xenians, altough the whole maps felt more like BM classic style and the textures and mapping is well done on those aspects, the whole mod feels more than just grey for my liking it feels empty, I mean i’d preffer Xrace ennemys vetter than a bunch of Vortiganunts ambushing me, maybe the gnome was ok and perfect for the lasts maps but it needs so much more than that, I mean i’d love this mod at least has 3 or 5 more levels with those improvements.
Maybe I just suck but I had a really hard time with this mod.
Ok, the actual structure of the maps in this mod is great and feels like something that could have been cut from OpFrce the enemy placement, however, does not. There were multiple sections where I almost used godmode cause it was so cheap and once when I had to, Xenian firing squad I’m looking at you. Mix that with the large amount of lag I got during the last section of the mod because of the excessive amount of lighting sources you could say I had a frustrating time, though the lag is mostly due to my machine being crap and not a fault of the map itself. I can only recommend this map to vets and people who enjoy punishing themselves.

Don’t be fooled by the 2011 release year – this map pack is much older. Originally, it was planned to be part of a bigger, full-scale modification, but as that remained unfinished and as there were no plans to continue the development of this mod, the author decided in 2011 to just release the maps as they were.
This explains why there’s no story, no real beginning, a very sudden and abrupt end, and no cutscenes at all, making this actually feel like a demo. It’s nice and solid, but really nothing special and you should perhaps save this half an hour of gameplay for when you’ve finished all those more complete and simply more entertaining HL and OF mods that are available here, at wonderful RTS. (The first OF mod you should play is definitely “Under The Black Moon”, which is in the RTS-Hall of Fame for very good reasons.)
Playing on Medium, I didn’t find it overly hard, but the whole thing feels a bit unrewarding, because – as vancanucksfan already said – there are too many rooms and areas that you could explore but not actually do anything, so I found it a little boring. What I didn’t find was the shotgun. As there’s ammunition for it, it’s probably hidden in one of those lambda caches, of which I found only two.
Forcing the player to take damage when dropping down a shaft is just bad design, because this can inevitably mean death. As I’m constantly quicksaving and also creating regular saves at the beginning of a map, this is no big deal – especially not in a map pack as short as this one – but incorporating things like this should be avoided.
There are definitely worse map packs, but don’t expect too much.

It feels like it’s missing something, background music in some areas maybe? I dunno, either way the gameplay was very solid so definitely check it out when you have time.
Incredibly difficult on Hard, you are very low on ammo early on and you have to kill many vortigaunts with the knife which is tricky, even latter on there aren’t many weapons but enough ammo.
Still a good mappack but not the best.
