  1. Tried 3 times with Gauge and each time got this error message

    Install of “maptap://www.runthinkshootlive.com/download.php?id=13582&f=/half-life-1/hl1-sp-seek-and-destroy-hl-mod.7z” failed.

    I installed it manually.

  2. Play It Now!

Fun quick play. Low health and ammo through out at Hard level setting – averaged 10-30%. Would of like to have had a grenade launcher in a couple of sections. Enjoyed the rigged ammo boxes with lasers puzzle while being assaulted by a helicopter. Encountered a small glitch when entering the spaceship and the power did not turn off the electricity. Other than that it was a good classic Half-Life mod peeking around the corners and shooting the extremities to avoid damage. Thanks Rogelio Garcia & ValveTime.

  3. Play It Later

This isn’t quite the mod i expected it to be, there are many reasons to this, so let me explain. The story is an interesting one, it is something unique, which is to destroy an alien/human spacecraft while playing as the main character, Gordon Freeman.

    The Gameplay

The gameplay is propably the most disappointing in this mod, because from the start you have a LOT of human grunts to deal with, and the worst thing about this is, they all charge the player at once, and in most cases, the player himself has nowhere to hide, and is left with less than 10 points of health, at least that’s what happened in my case while playing in hard difficulty. That’s actually the main reason i sometimes avoid playing on hard difficulty in a lot of mods…And not only that, 93% of the enemies you will enounter are human grunts in big groups. I was feeling a relief when i had to face other alien creatures like vortigaunts…expect for alien grunts….ugh..in one point i had 6 HP and 2 alien grunts in front of me, no idea how i was lucky enough to manage to kill both of them without being hit not even once by their hornets… To explain this in a sentence, too many enemies, very little health/battery supplies. The grenades that the map gave to the player were very, very little, i’m pretty sure you get them only in 1 point in the whole mod and if you run out, you run out forever, same goes for the grenades attached to the MP5/M4. Also, during the ending in the outside area where you have to fight the spacecraft, the height of the walls is too low, and since i have good jumping skills, i managed to get out of the level. Not that i could have any unfair advantage, but the player is NEVER supposed to get to the skybox blocks…Something else that i should bring up is how enclosed most of the districts are, it makes you feel claustrophobic in a way, and the only cover is literally just the corners of the walls, which is kind of lazy, because good geometry not only makes an area more interesting, it obviously helps the player, but it also helps the AI engage the player in a variety of ways! Something like some wooden boxes to either break or use them as cover would be a very good touch, and i actually don’t remember finding any breakable stuff, just mostly corridors, corridors, and corridors…

    The Visuals

The visuals are….not good either. In most places, the areas you will come onto are very blocky, and have nothing interesting for the player to gaze at…There isn’t also a clever use of textures, it’s mostly one texture to the wall, one to the ceiling, and one to the ground, instead of for example, 2 or more variations of textures to the walls or the ground, or both! Usually looking at how Valve used their textures in their maps gives you a good idea of how to do it yourself in your maps. In my opinion, the only good area that stood out more from the others is the one in the thumbnail that shows a laboratory room, the rest is fundamental design.
Moreover, the lighting is also plain and simple, the old school yellow lights. But that’s boring! Where’s the variety? The flickering lights? The different color combinations? Exactly, they are very little and become repetitive after a while.
Something else i encountered is that is some very specific places, you can spot some textures overlap each other, again, this is just lazy, the texture overlapping in goldsource is nearly impossible not to be spotted by a developer!

    Conclusion

All in all, this mod even though it has its flaws with the gameplay and the details, i have seen mods that are worse than this. It might become boring after a certain point, but it took me about 35 minutes to finish this, so…It’s alright. At the end of the day, if you want the best experience out of this mod, you should avoid playing this on hard, and the rest is as entertaining as you imagine it to be!

  4. Play It Now!

    This was a Cool mission
I had not problem regarding the gameplay experience but just play it on medium…I think there were some very cool idea not always perfectly drafted or scriped but for a mod digged from 16 year ago I wasn’t hoping for something so consistent

And If you have some doubt or get lost the author also created a walktrough map : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8Qbpvo1F1Q&t=1379s

Hope some other map like this one will come in the future 🙂

  5. Play It Now!

I must say “Wow” I’m so tempted to add this to my personal favorites category. Not just is this the first decent new hl1 mod in over a year. The last one was “Arctic Incident” if memory serves correct. The special thing about it: It managed to entertain me quite well and that’s something that doesn’t happen often anymore in Half-Life1. I didn’t get bored not once. Add to that – that this is the author his first release ever and for that alone the quality and scripting capability he demonstrates are amazing.

From a mappers perspective I must salute the author of this little mod. The scenery and npc scripting are exceptional and well designed. The amount of entities he must’ve used to get the numerous effects going are immense. I can comprehend that as I did something similar once in Firestorm. Electric currents moving around etc.. fantastic and tons of entities let me assure you.

Mapping wise: The mod isn’t that good but by far not bad either in any case. One of the main aspects I did enjoy about it were the beautiful designed rooms and the light settings he chose. They were always pleasing and charming to watch.

Game play: Very solid in my opinion unlike other reviewers complained before I never had seen an absurd amount of enemies at once nor were there any particular bad or good enemy placements being used regarding their numbers.

But I also didn’t play it on hard. Possible that the author messed around with the skill settings who knows. The hardest spot was probably the starting area as it caught the player by surprise. How ever once inside that door upstairs you were safe and could easily pistol snipe your enemies.

Story: Apparently you’re hired by some agency to destroy some man made space craft combined with alien tech sitting in what appears to be a skyscraper. Whether this is linked to Black Mesa or not is hard to say but only an unnamed organization was named as the producer of that space craft. Still considering you see Black Mesa Logos and the typical staff that Organization might be Black Mesa after all. Or at least an offspring of it. I wish the author would’ve gotten into greater detail regarding that ’cause some of the things you see & do don’t seem to make much sense story wise but that’s okay. Players usually spin their own stories in their heads anyway.

Bugs: Just like Osiris I too encountered the bug of the space craft power not shutting off. So I had to use god mode to get inside the space craft and push the console button. There was no passing by otherwise. That should get fixed.

My conclusion: Play it now this is incredibly good for a 1st time mod release. Thanks Mr. Garcia.

  6. Played on hard. Interesting mod. I got stuck on the second map when I didnt notice the very well hidden vent passage going upwards. So when I tried again I got blown by a granade thru a window and was left at 6 HP to proceed with. No worries. Train ambush was silly because I just jumped off and walked along the tracks. I got lucky when my random mod decided to put an otis in the room with the scientists doing the experiment, dude took down 5 soldiers by himself. The spaceship sprays like a fiend. Managed to get thru since you can pistol down all the enemies in the airfield pretty easily. good game.

  7. Play It Now!

I really liked this mod, I really recommend playing it

  8. Play It Now!

I like this mod. The map is very well designed and the combats are very fun. I also like the scripts, but the ending script seems broken at my computer 🙁 (I’m teleported to the soldier who shoots the missile to the helicopter) Anyway really enjoyable mod.

  9. Hec
    Play It Now!

I enjoyed this mod. Offered quite a nice action, though the overall mapping layout was very boxy.

I think I like the fact was a simple mission to complete with some nice elements, the storyline was neat and straight to the point, to find that UFO and just destroy it.

I also liked how the end left that possibility of continuing with Gordon’s story after being shoot down by those grunts.

So yeah this is a Play it Now especially if you want to have some quick entertainment.

  10. Play It Now!

Combat is pretty good to say the least. Level design is okay, but I’ve been experiencing trigger errors or something. I remember running into three grunts and when the wall breaks behind them, they just stood there and do nothing. I assume something is coming out of it to get them but nothing happened. Next one is the spacecraft where I have to go in there but I keep getting killed by electrocution. What’s happening there?

  11. Play It Later

Seek and Destroy is a pretty… good mod

First of all I have to say that I am quite an intellectual and I was lost for more than 10 minutes in the first part of the game only to discover that I had to go through a ventilation duct, I felt like a complete idiot.

It is also a pretty good mod and with a difficulty curve that does not feel unfair at all, in addition to the fact that the alien ship near the end seems beautiful to me and a good concept that it can attack you as a turret when you activate it

  12. Personal Favourite

It’s time to destroy the alien ship, so to do that we need to hover it in the sky and then blow it with lasers outside cause inside we could cause serious damage by blowing the ship. And we activate the ship so it also activates an auto-aim system. The starship fires its rockets pretty well which makes me think of apache shooting you instead of the starship. Starship nowaday are very valuable cause they are made of Xen materials and these materials are light to fly.
