  1. Phillip says Maybe

Sorry to say but this just gets a “Maybe” from me.

The mapping is bland and unimaginative. There are whole areas with lighting but no lights.

Enemies spawn in front of you and the whole thing feels rushed.

It’s certainly not the worst map you will play but it makes me wonder whether I would prefer this or nothing. Currently, I’m undecided.

Play it if you REALLY need your Combine fix, otherwise wait for something better.

  2. Maybe?

I would say not a bad map, but not a good one either. It leans more toward the “bad” way. The mapping is fairly basic, not much detail but not big bland walls. The scripting however is horrible. Enemies litteraly spawn in the corners of the room you are in.

I would say that ar487 needs more practise. Look at some of the more sucessful maps and see what they did to make the map fun.

    Maybe?

Very bland in terms of aesthetics. Your objective is to restore power, but the base is uniformly bright. Most of the level is bereft of props, leaving just adequate brushwork to look at. There are no soundscapes either, so expect to spend most of the level in silence.

There’s not whole lot to do here. An inordinate amount of time is spent traveling, whether it’s by train, elevator or air duct. Combat is a total afterthought. As near as I could tell, you’re armed with only a Crowbar and a Pistol and you are expected to fight Zombies and AR2-wielding Combine in several waves. Combine which, I should add, don’t drop their weapons.

As pointed out by others, most of these Combine spawn out of thin air. The author clearly relied on the “Don’t Spawn While Visible” option, but that alone is not enough. You need multiple spawn points that the player can’t see at the same time, as well as the farthest distance check to make sure the game doesn’t pick a spawn point right next to the player. As a result, all you need to do is look away from the obvious spawn closet for a moment, look back, and there’s another Combine ready to shoot.

The actual level layout isn’t terrible and there are the bones for a decent mission here, but it’s simply unfinished and underdeveloped.

Well, this was overall a decent compact map, because we have a train section and some middle open yard area, I didn’t really cared about the textures or lighting. Also the task to do into the map was fair enough.

But what really messed this map up are those stupid spawning CMB soldiers all around, OH also that super powerful glock, which I’d like more if the author would have modified at least its sound or make it more like the Alyx gun!, or add some classic HL2 weapons like the SMG or the old reliable Shotgun at least!! I guess this map would be so much better with some fix CMB units, and maybe one or 2 Hunters to add some challenge after you launch the damn rocket, which is the all propose of the mission in the mod.

Overall is a Think Twice recommendation, because I feel the whole combat very bland and those idiotic spawn CMB soldiers are a TOTAL KILLJOY!

  5. Maybe?

Meh… This was mediocre at best.

The fact that the main weapon was an incredibly powerful pistol with 8 bullets in one clip was really boring. Some variety would be fun.

Speaking of variety, the enemies are actually quite variable, except that in the end they kept respawning which was really annoying.

Also, if the mission was to launch a rocket, then why can’t we see it?

Overall, this could be fun if you’re bored.

Looks ok. Game play? I’m in favor of adding it.
