Much improved compared with part 1, played well without problems, fairly easy with no puzzles, good design and textures but no story .
Excellent continuation of part one! Every aspect has been improved to make it a better, longer more varied experience.
The story is also contineing and this time you have a real goal to reach than just surviving and escaping. Blow up the Fort Defiance facility! Good luck!
Maps now have more than one floor and are again filled with quite many details, altho it’s some sort of similar to part one as there are many corridors and smaller rooms to visit.
The grey wall texture is used often but that’s okay as there are many enemies to fight instead of searching for beautiful walls 😉
What I liked best is the small but sweet outdoor area with some tougher challenges.
And I don’t mean the starting area which is also outdoor..
However yet again the AI is pretty stupid, blowing comrades up and acting not very tactical, so it’s easy to get rid of any “opposing force” 😉
Therefore I suggest again to play at least on medium, or even hard.
Occasionally music starts to play which gives it a more dramatic atmosphere.
Another cool thing are… ehm “secret” areas with goodies, which aren’t obvious at first it’s not obvious how to reach them. So take a closer look and you’ll eventually find a why.
There’s no cheating required at all times!
What’s negative is balancing, you will have plenty of ammo and, if you’re lucky, every HL weapon! Besides that, there are many healing possibilties due to scientists, HEV and health chargers, heathkits and HEV batteries.
That’s just too much to ruin balancing in my eyes!
In combination with the silly AI all these facts are making the mappack to easy to beat…
Nonetheless, it’s great fun! Worth playing!
Note: I’d even give a “play it now” if there would be way better balancing with less ammo and weapons, HEV- and health chargers longer playtime and some more varied wall textures.

A very disappointing level. The only really noticeable difference between this and the original Resistance is that it is a bit longer.
Barry really did little improvement with this sequel; in fact, I sorta liked the old one better because it was more on the small side. Although a lot of us can have at least some fun in levels that are mostly just mindless grunt-killing, this add-on, to me at least, was just a bit too long and too easy to qualify under the kind of enjoyment I described.
The major problem with Resistance 2 is that it’s just too damn linear and predictable. You’re constantly walking through hallways with many doors and behind each door you can expect a small room filled with bad guys. Given the type of ammo you get I can quickly explain the kind of action you’ll be experiencing over and over: open the door in front of you; see a whole bunch of grunts shouting at each other to get into position; quickly pump a MP5 grenade into the room and strafe away. Boom, done! If anyone is still alive, just wait for the door to close again and repeat those steps. If you don’t like using the MP5 grenades then don’t worry! You can choose from an abundant supply of rockets, hand grenades or satchels as well!
Not only was the fighting too easy, the placement was just terrible at times. Assassins do not do well in areas the size of a bedroom 🙂 Yet all the assassins I remember were trapped in these small places, effectively waisting their high manoeuvering abilities. But the worst has got to be the gargantua in a room that could only fit about another two of the same enemies. Resistance 2 definately could’ve used some more wide open fighting and not make every room filled with marines waiting on the other side of the door. It’s just boring stuff, similar to the kind of thing I complained about Resistance. There is one nice fight that contrasts what I just said, however. It takes place outdoors and is a good example of the kind of stuff I would’ve liked to see more of.
Design was about on par with the quality of Half-Life levels we’ve been seeing, and that’s not saying much if you like eye-candy. As in the original Resistance, there’s a heavy abundance of cool prefabs, but the rooms themselves were square and uninteresting. This felt more like one of those office buildings rather than a Black Mesa lab, which is what it was suppose to be according to the story.
The one improvement between this and Barry’s last Resistance map was the creativity. There’s a USS Darkstar-like idea seen in here where alien species are caged and put into different rooms like a zoo. But it looks more like they’re frozen in time then looking dangeruos and roaming around as in USS Darkstar. But it would be unfair to compare this with Neil’s levels, but nonetheless I felt the captive animals could’ve been put into some sort of enviroment instead of staying in something of a stasis.
All considered, this is quite the kind of lackluster, mediocre addon that we could shrug off in the early days of Half-Life, but we’ve come a long way since then and there’s many maps better than this.

Resistance 2 begins where the first installment left off. You have escaped Black Mesa in the SUV and use information obtained from the GMan’s briefcase to locate another secret facility nearby.
While Resistance 2 is pretty much more of the same in terms of the gameplay, the mapping and detailing certainly shows signs of improvement. What’s more, with the addition of Xen aliens this time around, things are a little more varied. There is still some odd use of certain enemies, such as the assassins and larger Xen aliens. The fight with the Gargantua isn’t really a fight at all, despite the explosion and the blaring action soundtrack that starts playing…
The map pack ends somewhat anticlimactically when you push a button to trigger the facility’s auto destruct sequence, and then simply leave via a portal which opens directly next to the button.
I’ll give this one a Maybe rating, simply because there are genuine signs of improvement here. Onwards and upwards to Resistance 3.

Pretty fun combat if you can find the weapons in time. Blowing up lots of hgrunts in close quarters is satisfying.

I don’t recommend to play it on hard. Unless you want some grenadier to blow your face out.
Did you know that grenade launcher flies faster on hard? Know you know. And did you know that he can even launch it even if he actually don’t see you at all? Now you know it. This doesn’t happen on Easy. Isn’t it? Now you know this too. And did you know that Gargantua encaged in that cell just can crash you die just in a sec. I killed it. How? I have mystic powers. Now you know this too. Do you need to kill it? No, supposedly he’s a specimen and supposedly he should be encaged. I don’t get how he’s the only one who break the cage and any others stay still behind an unbreakable glass.
