Pretty nice. Although the voice overs are in Russian, I was still able to easily complete this. Recommended.
This is based off of AVP2, do you get the Pulse Rifle and smart gun?
I found this a bit hard on normal mode, so having been killed and quick saved a lot I went back and started on easy mode and found mod flowed better allowing me to get on with the game which has some complexe puzzles or sequences to work through. Overall I well workout mod stuctured with a good balance of gameplay and worth downloading. Stuff I did not like was the idea of getting scientist to follow you down flights of stair, they just dont want to do it. Voices in Russian so difficult to follow the plot and you know they are giving you instructions on what to do next, frustration. I did find some of the large set I bit out of scale making detail look tiny compared with the size of the room or area, also after a while the same type of interior textures wear thin and you finish up longing for some top surface action, but the mod does take place on a space station of sorts. Good mod go play.
Just to confirm getting the scientist to follow you down BOTH sets of stair is essential to playing and completing the game, and you may have to push him from behind at times.
The gameplay is poor because the final levels are so confusing I never actually found my way to the end (but perhaps I missed something) and the content is stolen because it unapologetically uses models from AVP2 throughout. Why they did not just make this for AVP2 I have no idea.
A good game with hard combat & puzzle sequences to work through, you may need to play easy mode. Difficult to follow in Russian, bad idea getting scientist to follow down stairs.
I’m torn, really torn. Even as I start to write this review I haven’t decide what Recommendation Image I will give it. I’ll keep writing until I decide.
Firstly, the voice acting is in Russian (I think) so we don’t really know what’s going on, unless you have read my description which is my edited version taken from the English readme.
If you haven’t already guessed this is a partial conversion that sues some elements from Half-Life but many things have been changed.
The general feel is a cross between Quake/Doom and Half-Life which never really works in my opinion. It’s clear the team responsible for developing this have worked very hard but what it lacks is balance and flow.
The enemies can kill you with 4 shots, whereas you need to shot them about 10 times. Not only that but the “puzzles” or objectives are not very clear. I had to NOCLIP at least 4 times to get to the next part of the map. That could be due to my stupidity, but it’s at least partly due to the modders.
Now the flow, is something that modders have never really gotten the hang of. They don’t seem to understand that action needs to peak and then plateau for a while. That plateau is to allow me to explore and calm down, slowly building to the next action sequence.
Encounters here seem to be almost randomly spaced.
I didn’t finish this mod, as I could work out what to do after the last screenshot. A well-written walkthrough would be greatly appreciated, by me and probably many other players.
Okay, I have decided what to recommend….
I recommend you see what other reviewers say, BUT, be prepared to NOCLIP and maybe even GODMODE just to look around. Hardcore players will probably be able to finish it, but it will be hard work.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Red Star tells about an agent who must find out the cause of mineral delivery disruption. The mineral is a valuable source of energy.
The intro cutscene shows how we are briefed and then we land on the planet. It seems to me that this cutscene should have been shorter and more spectacular. In the intro, we see many excellent new models, and then there’s that fullbright garage. The architecture is average, sometimes monotonous and bland. There’s a big vis compiler error in the mines. We venture and solve puzzles where we have to press or break something.
The first enemies are nice – usual soldier, but with pistol and in the environment suit. Good example of how it’s possible to make something original without much effort. The battles are hard – medkits are very scarce, and there’s no armor, so I had 7% health for a while, then 2%. There will be a boss – ninja with much health, and it’s not possible to complete that place without cheats, because after we finally defeat that ninja, a door opens, soldier enters and finishes us off. Then there are doors which require an electronic key which is nowhere to be found, many enemies and no medkits…
Conclusion: like Challenger Deep, this is a sketch of a future masterpiece. Bland design, too big distances, vis-glitch, necessity to use cheats, majority of light sources” white color and moments where the characters start to talk with original HL voices cause the feel of incompleteness.
I was going to give it a maybe for the great models, but fitzroy_doll said that they are stolen from the game Aliens Versus Predator 2, I looked at the screenshots and confirmed that.
You have to press the button shown in the third to last screenshot, jump on the fan in the room with the assassin and then break the grate on the ceiling. Follow that to the end and you have the key.
It took me a long time to figure that out too.
Yes, I got that, but once you get in the room and press the center of the yellow floor panel what does it open or do?
It turns the power on so you can go back to the scientist and press the buttons on the panel and launch the ship
If you like chasing about in seemingly endless corridors with little combat, then this is the mod for you!
If others are correct and this uses stuff from AVP2 then it shows the author/authors, are/were lazy. This became boring very quickly. Unless I missed something early on, a door was opened by a switch that required entering a room full of lethal radioactive green snot, if that was the correct way of doing it then Godmode was indeed the only answer. I don’t know if I’ve noticed this correctly but it seems that Russian mods of this era didn’t seem to have a problem with requiring cheats.
The look and feel of this could of almost been made in FPS Creator if that was around at the time of the original release of this. Despite the (seemingly) new skins/textures this has little going for it.
As Boney M said “Oh! those Russians”
That’s an excellent observation.
no need to cheat, just jump from the ladder towards the window (you’l land in the ooze) & quick jump onto the ledge, then leap to the switch, activate it, hop back onto the ledge then onto the ladder again, I did it in difficult mode & was left with full health & 7 points hev π
I enjoyed this for the majority but it just got boring and repetitive near the end.
I didn’t think this mod was that hard. It did require quite a lot of thought, and running straight into a fight would have meant you were dead. You have to creep around corners and shoot them with the peashooter and lob grenades around corners for the majority of it, using the AR for the up close fights. Apparently the textures were from AVP2 which is a shame because I really enjoyed them.
It’s worth playing if you like the tactical fights, but avoid it if you like running in and shooting.
I also got stuck here. Apparently this was the last map however as there wasn’t a map called rs11. Maybe it was unfinished?
The mod has an actual ending.
Once you are in the control room (the second to last screenshot) there is some kind of hidden button when you are facing the window. After you press it, go back to the scientist, and press both buttons on the instrument panel. Then the ending starts
I’m at a loss as for where to go after the second briefing. Nothing I can find is usable (buttons) and all the old doors are locked still. Suggestions?
If it’s the part I’m thinking of then
bring the scientist from the room back up to the previous map by going back up the lift and take him down the hallway to the door that doesn’t make a noise when pressed.
That is presuming that your in the area I think you are in.
Oops, thanks WYW. I must have posted my second comment without refreshing the page.
Ah, got it. If anyone else gets stuck here, you have to lead a scientist to open a couple of doors for you.
I found this difficult because there aren’t many health kits to be had, and once you get near the end you are facing Black Ops type opposition. It was difficult to know what to do since the mod is in Russian but eventually you can figure it out. I tried my best to not cheat but I got to a point where I was so low on health I couldn’t survive without god mode. Not bad overall
Well as much as I’m a fan of spaceship maps in Half-Life, this one didn’t do much for me. It’s too bad that the textures/models were from AvP2 I think some freshness was injected with the new textures, while I thought that other textures were just terrible and ugly (like the spaceship exteriors). Overall this is a tough and I dare say unbalanced and boring find-the-button mod.
Much of the mapping is pretty basic and unattractive. I mentioned that I liked some of the new textures, but in other places the standard Half-Life textures were very poorly used. Overall much of the second half of Red Star was just repetitive, boring corridors in which you’ll have to hunt down buttons to push, backtrack a number of times, and drag a scientist through some frustrating tight hallways and stairways to open some doors for you.
Beyond the pretty boring maps and find-the-button gameplay, Red Star kind of just feels unfair. The new soldiers are tougher to kill and you’re not any tougher, nor are your weapons any better. Near the end your goal is (of course) a button. You have to fight past an extra-tough reskinned assassin, and several soldiers after that with no health packs at all. It’s completely unbalanced in the last 20% or so of the mod, and it’s hard to believe this was tested at all. I also had to resort to creeping around the corner to pick them off with the peashooter. Yawn.
I only gave it more than one star because of the setting and the different look. Otherwise, this is a frustrating, pretty boring pack.
Shame! this mod falls to almost the lowest rate, and is courius because my experience, was from the best to the worst!. I mean at the beggining u can see some reminicenses or inspiration from USS Darkstar, the first cut at the beggining of the mod made me remember Darkstar, but appart of there is a really falling down untill u have a really bad taste because it seems that developers got confused due to following some maps or just waste them, in my appreciation, the last 2 crussial maps to end the mod were too much, and just one had to be supressed in my opinion the abuse in repetitive textures and too much false doors adding a really ackward and bad layout, were ressponsible of many confussion and those really annoyng noclip momments.
As I say im a “new weapon” lover so that’s a good point for this mod, but actually the models and skins for the SMG was so ugly, the crowbar change for that smaller tool was a delight for me, and probably is one of may favourites melee weapons I have played with, the pistol was ok but really few shoots almost ruined it, and I miss alien guys, overall this could be feel as a big mixture of many SCFI games, but I feel that for a mod that’s a very ambitious goal to get, and maybe for this guys that ambition really screwed up many things in this mod project, I don’t think they even had continued with the 2nd part at all after this bad ressult, nevertheless i’d like to play another more focused and simple mod of them.
I’m stuck and could use some help. I’m on level RS05, picture number 34 in the screenshots. I have dropped down to this area from the space above the ceiling (can’t get back up there to return). The door there doesn’t open. Jumped across the broken catwalk and the door on the other side doesn’t open. There is an area below where there is a broken pipe and a hole in the wall. Jumped down to the area below and there doesn’t seem to be anything down there. Can’t get out and I get killed if I go to the hole in the wall. Anybody know what I’m supposed to be doing here? Thanks.
The only reason gets a 2 because of the new content.
Ugh, I wonder why I even finished this mod now..
It’s so tedious and lengthy that I really can’t recommend it to anyone!
It is a Russian mod in a non-HL universe in space / on a remote planet with new models, sounds, textures and (Russian) ingame voices and weapon models. At least text messages are in English.
You usually run around in some space ship to restore power, that’s the main goal as far as I understood it right…
That’s exactly as boring as it sounds as there is less combat compared to it’s total playtime.
The combat itself is tough, there is less health and the marines are strong.
In the late maps I did ran with only 1 (!) health all the time, ugh!
Ammo clip size for pistol and AR are reduced to 10 and 30. The only other weapons are a wrench as crowbar replacement and grenades.
Enemies are grunts with new models and also assassin-like threats, no aliens.
At first there are also some shooting guys in white protection suits (which seem to be space suits).
At two point you have to escort a scientist to open doors for you until he stays at one point where you climb up a ladder. You’ll meet him again later to open more doors for you.
This is necessary to proceed and it can be annoying to make him follow you.
Once you have to find a keycard and there is a lot of backtracking afterwards. That’s bad!
Mapping is average I’d say, nothing special, often the same textures and too bright or too dark lighting. Boxy corridors and no witty architecture make it even more boring.
At least a few puzzles are okay but it’s obvious what to do then.
All in all, as mentioned, it’s definitely not worth playing as I think one hour playtime is just a waste of time here, go play some other mods instead!
Where is this scientist? I don’t remember seeing one. Where is the keycard? I’ve back tracked to the control room in scene 52. There are two doors that require an electric key. Where do you find it?
there’s also a pick-axe you grab early in the mod, slower than the wrench but more damage dealt per hit. π
Ok…I finally finished it and I agree with those who mentioned that this mod can use more health and more weapons. Namely handgrenades. There were many times I could have cleared many areas with enemies with some grenades.
But on the most part it was an enjoyable mod. I didn’t see any scientist to open any doors, so I had to cheat in some places to continue playing. It took me about six days to complete, but I was only playing it maybe an hour or so a day.

liked, finished with full health (no armor though) & heaps of health packs still reachable unused, full ammo, (though used all 5 grenades), with heaps of enemies guns littering floors & walkways, (& you shall know me by the trail of the unused items π ) would have finished much sooner except for failing to notice that even though a switch reverted to red it HAD activated, so backtracked EVERYWHERE thinking i’d missed something vital when i’d actually already done what I was trying to, most uplifting towards the finale π & also because of annoying scientist continually refusing to use stairs or follow around corners (i killed him many times in many ways), I didn’t use any cheats whatsoever, I never do anyway, but I thought from some (most) of the comments above that I might have to as y’all made it sound as if the mod was glitchy or poorly made??? everything thing worked perfectly (except for the damn scientist, although I did find that pushing him after telling him NOT to follow worked better than actually trying to push him whilst he was “in tow”, & that keeping the machine gun reticule on his skull seemed to speed him up a bit too, ie, if he balked going up stairs he’d quick start after turning his head to tip of gun, without being pushed π ), once I searched for ways. as in any game, & whilst I tried to conserve ammo early by using the pistol where possible, I later found the machine gun to be actually (& unusually for HL&mods) more efficient, eg, strafe, shoot their face with quick burst, then quickly strafe back behind corner etc. definitely recommend this mod, & must find, if not the “to be continued”, at least others by BOP to check out. π oh, ps, I did notice one oddity, a few times when I had nearly full ammo I left the captured ammo on ground then killed more ahead & went back a room or 3 to pickup those clips, but even though the guns were still there, & disappeared on walkover, the ammo didn’t pickup, still, there was always more than enough. π

I didn’t like this mod. Here are the reasons:
Pros:
– Cool new sounds.
– 4 new weapons: pickaxe, wrench, pistol and mp5
– Cool models.
Cons:
– The mod is full in russian, you won’t get anything from the storyline nor the missions/instructions.
– The 4 new weapons are the only ones you have.
– You’ll only face three types of enemies.
– Enemies can take you down with 4-5 shots, and there aren’t many Medkits.
– It’s really short (It took me so long because I got lost so many times).
– The only 2 guys who could give you a hand die at the begging, you can’t do anything to save them.
So… Even when I found the new sounds pretty catchy, I don’t recommend this mod, it doesn’t even have puzzles!

This could have been a much better mod.
The story I didn’t understand because it’s in Russian!
The combat is really hard. Even on normal, the mod can still be difficult.
Though, it looks BEAUTIFUL and the models are some of the best I’ve ever seen!
I’ll be honest, I never finished this mod because I didn’t feel like doing so.
There are hallways which all look the same and the textures are sort of glitched.
Overall, it’s an okay mod that could have been better. If you want to, give it a shot.
