“This mod takes place in a research centre called “White gate research centre”. This centre is similar to black mesa, it is under the ground, and it has security officers etc.. You play as an HECU soldier in this mod and you should search&destroy this centre. This centre is not filled with zombies or headcrabs or any other things.
The researchers in the white gate research centre, have found a way to teleport to Xen and they have captured some headcrabs. They have managed to take out a virus out of these creatures and they are planning to make a biological weapon from this virus. But, they are not allowed to work on weapons, because government doesn’t want them to do. But, unfortunately, they go on working on this bio-weapon and government learns this, so they ask HECU squad to moake an operation to the base and stop the development of this bio-weapon.
The commander, finds this mission easy, so he decides to send only one soldier to this center. And it is YOU! 😀
As I said before, you won’t shoot any xen creature in this mod except one small part, because this mod takes place before the resonance cascade. You wont shoot any HECU soldiers either. You will shoot scientists and the security officers in that center.
By the way, I have done this mod ALONE, and it is my first mod, but it is very good for the first time.”

For a first attempt it’s very good but ultimately the bugs and errors in the map spoilt it for me. I haven’t finished the mod but I have chosen to stop playing.
I admire any author’s attempt to try new things but the cutscenes and the sequence with the tank made the mod feel amateurish.
Sometimes it’s better to just make a good simple mod and leave the developments stuff for beta testing.
There were some nice touches, just the little things. Image 19 shows some thought. Instead of just locking the door the author created a little story. Clearly the scientist in question is scared and that adds to the feeling of detail.
SPOILER ALERT
For me the turning point was the area where you reach the fire door. It took me quite a few times to workout that I couldn’t run and crouch under the door, I couldn’t sneak past the security camera or even shoot the scientist. That is a fundamental flaw in game design. Sure, make it hard to do but not so that I simply keep dying. I will not believe anybody who says they passed this area first time.
SPOILER OVER
I cam close to giving this an AVOID IT Recommendation but feel that besides the faults the author has really tried hard to create a playable mod. Unfortunately I feel that it’s not polished enough for a PLAY IT NOW recommendation, so I am only left with…
My Recommendation
I never got past that fire door.I figured you were supposed to push that box under it but never got enough time.I gave up and no clipped through it.I didn’t find alot of bugs in this mod except for 2 spots when you get scanned by a laser and then the turrets open up.You just die right there during the cut sceen.Other than that I thought this was an exceptional mod for one person to make and on a first attempt.Oh and where do you drive a tank?I never got to do that. But still if you love the game just
Seems alright from the pics – however, he obviously didn’t key out the blue from the func_walls…
the screwed up attempt at transparency makes me not even want to play it. it’s a very simple feature and makes me question the quality of the whole package.
However, I’ll give it a whirl.
Mel, the FileFront link is not capped at 40kbs, it’s much faster! Like the author said this is his first mod and he did it alone! Sometimes I wished I had learned to map/mod instead of the other tricks, but I feel they all need a chance to try their hand! For me it was kinda buggy, but I got thru it. I didn’t notice the blue walls as shown above, but I did have to “clip” thru the fire door, like andyb did! all in all:
Enjoy hl 1 mods but this one is unplayable.
Finished hidden evil a few bugs but enjoyable.
This mod locks up at the fire door the ride in the tank.I hate cheating but this one won’t work on no clip. The tank ride locks up after the cut scene.
A waste of time downloading and trying it out.
sorry aviod it
If I can say anything about this mod, it’s that it’s nostalgic for me. This is possibly because I played it on a non-Steam Half-life (which I think was intended for this mod).Unfortunately, it brings back the bad ole days of messages such as “got a velocity too low on ********” which I think is caused by map leaks.
For the extremely short map size of each level, they were rather laggy, which is fairly poor since each map’s play time is less than about a half-minute if your know what you’re doing (A lot of the map transitions seemed completely unnecessary if not to cover up lag issues)
The mapping in general is very amateurish (perhaps even newbie) but there are enough elements to keep a person entertained (such as the cutscenes, despite their shortness).
One really nice nostalgic factor of the mod is the fact that the enemies are actually tweaked: the Barneys shoot you, the scientists are afraid of you, and the grunts are actually your friends. I don’t care how much you down-play a map, but I wish more mods had AI tweaks. I’ll admit that it’s somewhat incomplete (the Barneys say strange things when you shoot at them), but it’s still funny to have a scientist scream at you when you’re trying to get him to follow.
That’s something that is missing from Half-life mods in general: a sense of humor. Most mods tend to take themselves very seriously when the quality and work-time is increased, and I think it’s easy to forget that the casual gamer likes a good chuckle every once in a while.
If I’m angry about one thing, it’s very buggy. There’s enough complaints about this, but if you’re gonna have a puzzle of some sort, don’t let the player get themselves into a state of limbo where they can’t beat the game at all. The door-to-box puzzle is one thing, but having a necessary gas tank able to explode is an annoyance without an appropriate end-game screen.
None the less,
I hope Tolga makes more and better mods, especially with AI tweaks 😀
I played up to a cutscene where the tank crashes through and a grunt comes out to blow a fire door, then nothing just stuck there.
Too buggy for my liking kept needing to noclip, maybe I missed somethings. However, it’s all a bit basic design wise but if the author is new then hope this is the first stage to something better, has it stands it’s too Buggy.
planetphilip, made its own screenshots for my mod. Actually, there arent any problems with transparant textures. I don’t know why they did that. And at the Fire door part, you must “throw” the box with E+W(use+forward key)
You must play the hazard course to learn how to play. and at the second exit, the cut-scene starts AFTER killing the turrets. there must be a bug there. it worked fine with me. and this is my first mod, so it is normal to be amateurish. I am planning to make my second mod for hl2 but it is more difficult to make a mod for source, so I can go on with hl1. I played this game over and over before releasing it and fixed all of the bugs I have seen. but I havent tested it on another computer. there were no bugs when I played it with my own computer. but it is normal to have bugs when playing it on a different computer.
Yes, I know that now but there’s no way for a player to know that beforehand. If the Training
Course explains that then it should be made compulsory somehow.
The point is that once a player gets stuck at the fire door, there is no way to progress.
That’s way external beta testing is SO important.
GREAT, email me the details and I’ll help you promote it.
Very buggy, not that much content looks a first time effort with all the normal fualts.
I got a “falling down” bug, when I loaded my saved game in riding train. Then I couldn’t leave a tank without noclip (but it’s possible – you just need to press “duck” key). After it I got another problem – if I load saved game on this level (map qlmap7), Barney stuck in front of the jail’s door, unable to open it. Despite these bugs, mod was enough playable and interesting for me, not bad for amateur work.
This was odd. Being a soldier, infiltrating a facility for stopping scientists to create a biological weapon. Story ok, some cutscenes are nice. But the mod itself is just terrible, sorry!
It’s cool this was made by only one guy and it was his 1st mod, but unfortunately it’s not very good.
There is way more potential, and maybe the author released it finally as he was too fed up with working and working so much time, so imo it’s unfinished and you, the author, can’t say it was bugfree on your computer..
Pro’s:
-Good story, nice cutscenes, scripts – even playable! (tank)
-A few puzzles
Con’s:
-Bugs (where to start?)
-Short playtime
-Balancing
-Basic design and layout
-Unfair gameplay
