I really enjoyed these maps, but I know they are not everybody’s cup of tea. Firstly, they are pretty abstract. Don’t expect stuff to make sense.
Secondly, I got the “A.I. Disabled” on every level change and nothing I did corrected it. I had to close HL2 and restart the game and then load the next map. That meant having to give myself the suit. Most of the time I just used impulse 101 to save time.
That said, I enjoyed playing them and although I died quite a lot, especially on the airboat section, I found it about the right challenge level.
The final part with the moving ground is well done and if these ideas could have been put into a “proper” mod then I think we would be really praising them.
So, play them if you don’t mind a little manual work and relish a challenge.
Whilst this is not my kind of mod, I’d like to be able to play it, but for a long time HL2 and EP1 won’t even launch properly let alone being able to play them. Oh well I’ll never know how bad this one sounds!
Bad luck. What have you tried to fix it?
Well the first thing I tried was to completely uninstall Steam and I mean everything relating to Steam and HL and anything else related to it with Revo Uninstaller in Advanced mode. When Revo was finished I removed any leftovers manually including (very carefully) registry and then a reinstall through Steam of all that I play. Everything else worked but not HL2 and EP1 !!!!
OK onto my annual system re-install, reinstalled Steam and HL1 & EP2 which worked, but HL2 and EP1 which I have original genuine disks for, wouldn’t even finish the install. The 2 disks in question have only ever been in the drive once before when I first installed them! The HL2 disk is from the day it was first released in the UK (pre-ordered from Woolworths and I took a day off work to get and install it).
Is this the kind of mod that by reffering to “sharp thinking”, involves hard but then evident puzzles which make you feel the classic how stupid I am???
Probably.
Well, it was kind of fun in parts, other parts were just plain weird. The last map was too much for me and I just got tired of it and noclipped to the end of the moving platforms.
I got the “A.I. Disabled” also like Phillip but I did not have to exit the game, I just opened the console right then and re-loaded the map (and I also used impulse 101). Oh yeah, the level change worked properly from level 3 to 4 so I did not need to re-load the map there.
Honestly I belived i’d found this harder, and indeed at the end it is, but u can beat it with no cheats if u want, as I am a not patient guy I used some at the end, but u can like this, I don’t know for me some maps were so wierd-funky high maps, like if freeman would have smoked some joint or so….
It’s good.
The maps could have been better if they were more polished. I know that it’s a “puzzle” map pack but still they could have been better.
As for the puzzle element, it’s actually good too. Some of the maps were also challenging. I was really confused into that part with the water and the wooden platform.
Overall, this is a nice mod.
One pretty nice and good map. Defenitely liked this.
As for the “AI Disabled”, it’s prety obvious that this is done by the mapper to get the abstract feeling. It’s all perfect as it is, because it doesn’t make sense. That’s the great thing about abstract :))
Ugh…
