I have a couple of favourite sci-fi authors; Iain M. Banks and Alistair Reynolds. I have bought their last few books in hardback because not only do hardback books make me feel intellectual, they are also available quite a bit earlier than the paperback version.
The problem is that I need to be in the right mood and it looks like the paperback version of one of the books is about to be released and I haven’t even touched the hardback yet.
Made me realise I have to be in the right mood for reading and the same could be said for mods. To be honest though, I don’t I think that deeply about the mods as they are much less time consuming and I have finished before I am bored.
In fact, when I think of Black Mesa, I feel the same. I know it’s going to take a while, so I ahve to be looking forward to it.
How do you feel about mods?
yes, sometimes I want to play but just am not up to it. Maybe exploring a mod sounds fun, but I am at a big fight spot (wrong time). Sometimes a mod is a conversion of HL and I don’t want to take the time to learn the “new” way.
I do download everything that looks good and in time get around to playing them.
Yes, I’d go along with that, I not only have to be in the mood, I also need to have the actual spare time to do it when I am.
Hmm I went to polldaddy to vote..
Yes I was thinking about this recently and I, for one, do need to be in a certain mood to play certain types of games. I think it also depends on the map/mod you’re about to play, as in the genre and the length.
I need to be bored at my age to play a mod these days
I never play anything unless I’ve had a few beers.
This is an odd kind of poll question. If you are not in the mood to play a mod, or read a book, then the chances are you will not play the mod or read that book!
At the moment I am busy building models with my favourite 3D software package, but that can change and I can end up back on the mods or obsessed with FS2004 again!
When you read a book when your not in the mood, your doing homework!:)
Well for him it’s not that simple, he has to review the mods and post them. And betatesters also play mods without necessarily being in the mood.
That is a good point! I was going to mention that but I ran out of steam.
Must remember to comment earlier in the evenings!
Voted “No’, since most of the time mood is my latest concern when it comes to games. Lately I never had THAT much time on my hands to get bored/out of mood of games.
I have to have the time to play them all now… 🙁
This is true for me as well – not just for mods or books, but for any kind of art really. Though good art should be able to change your mood, especially mods and video games since the designers have so much power over what you see and hear.
PS. Glad you used a screenshot of Triage as the icon 🙂
