This week’s poll moves away from the recent trend of discussing the actual gameplay and instead tries to find out exactly what game you are most anticipating for 2007. As with all polls the answers are nearly always “It depends!”. and this one is no different. Imagine, for whatever reason, you can only buy one FPS game next year, which one would it be?
I know that buy and anticipated are not the same but please ignore the semantics for this poll. Below is a brief description of each game in the poll.
I dislike having too many options in my polls and if I have missed a game you think should have been listed, then I apologize. Just use the comment system to make you voice heard! Onto the games in alphabetical order.
Which is your most anticipated game of 2007?
- BioShock: 12%
- Crysis: 9%
- Duke Nukem Forever: 12%
- Half-Life 2 Episode 2: 41%
- Hellgate London: 9%
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SOC: 18%
- Total votes:: 138
Well, this poll proved to be very, very popular. Normally a poll on PlanetPhillip recieves 60 votes, this received 138! Big jump. The most interesting result for me was the fact that Crysis came equal last. I though players would be really anticipating that one. Perhaps it is a reflection more about the type of readers I have than the game in general.
BioShock takes place in a mysterious genetic laboratory. Other than that the complex is strewn with corpses (also for reasons unknown), nothing is clear to you. From what you can tell, the laboratory complex is apparently a holdover from World War IIyoull see remnants of the war as well as peeling paint throughout the complex. Something apparently happened back then that caused the complex to be abandoned by whoever was using it.

BTW: This is the most used keyword used in web searches that find PlanetPhillip!
Earth, 2019: A colossal asteroid crashes down to Earth. The North Korean Government quickly seals off the island chain, claiming the mysteries of the asteroid for themselves. The United States responds by dispatching an elite team of Delta Force Operators to recon the situation and report back to the Pentagon. Amid rising tensions between the US and North Koreans, the asteroid suddenly bursts open, revealing a massive, 2km high alien ship. The ship generates an immense force sphere, freezing a vast portion of the island and drastically altering the global weather system. The invasion of Earth has begun.
PlanetPhillip Link: Crysis.
Duke Nukem Forever takes place in Las Vegas and surrounding areas. Dukes main foe is Dr. Proton, a 7?6? cyborg who was Dukes nemesis in the first Duke Nukem game. Dr. Proton has taken over Area 51 and nuked Las Vegas. He uses the spacecraft at Area 51 to contact aliens around the galaxy and recruit them for his army. Dr. Proton has also reanimated the Area 51 guards to do his bidding, and given them bionic enhancements. With this army, Dr. Proton plans to take over the world and kill Duke.”

Continues the incredible story of the Half-Life universe. To be honest I have avoided anything to do with it because I don’t like spoilers for things I am excited about. Please don’t post anything about it in the comments. That fact that it is Half_life itself should be enough!
Set twenty-five years in the future, “HELLGATE: LONDON” introduces a world devastated by a demon invasion and a desolate city scorched by hellfire where mankind has gone underground to survive. Among them are the Templar, an archaic and secret society that foresaw this demonic apocalypse centuries ago. Followers of arcane rites, the Templar combine futuristic technology with ancient artifacts to forge powerful weapons and armor. The mystic sanctuary of the Underground system provides players safe conduct throughout the sprawling metropolis of London as they seek to preserve the bloodline of man and gain a foothold against the minions of darkness.
set in the near future, shortly after another disaster in Chernobyl. The authorities surround the area with the Russian equivalent of the U.S. National Guard, and they begin to hear weird screams and rumblings coming from within. After a while, though, most of them are returned to earlier posts. Curiosity also gets the better of some people, so they sneak into the 30-kilometer area to do some good old-fashioned investigating. These people are called Stalkers, and they report back to the authorities with their findings. Combining FPS, adventure, and survival horror genres with on-foot and vehicular action, STALKER features more than 100 NPCs, a large arsenal, and a slew of multiplayer modes.

I’ll be changing my vote if they dont get steam fixed.
Steam? FIXED?..LOL it will never be completely fixed, like Yahoo…
HAHA
I took a while to make my choice (Half-Life 2: Episode 2)for this vote. I’m actually more interested in the story than the game itself.
Crysis is definitely gonna rock but I’m worried my system won’t be upto it, which means I will probably have to wait until 2008 until I get a new system.
HL2:ep 2 fo rme as well — especially as the mouthwatering Portal will be bundled with it. Team Fortresss looks gorgeous too but I’m not a multi-player gamer.
BTW, what’s with Steam today. I can’t log on!
I go with HL Ep 2. No contest for me.
for me first DNF second Stalker…Ilke HL a lot but really want something new especially DNF since still addicted to DN mapping and gaming
HL2 Ep. 2 for sure. You get TF2 and Portal with it. What a deal. But if my impulses got the best of me and Stalker came out first, then Stalker it would be.
Half-Life 2: Episode 2. I may/or may not convey the counterfiting of the co-existal confirmation of interfacable digital media via avenues of import information that may or may not be considered by the popular public domain to be compulsarily appropriate to the society of proposed interfacable digital media.
That being said, it’ll probably take awhile to be released on my tiny, backwards island. Atleast I can legally download Episode Two.
Simple answer: HL2: E2 & STALKER
Am I the only one here who went for Bioshock? I guess it’s mostly because I’ve been playing a lot of System Shock recently, but I’m looking forward to this one the most pout of the selection you’ve given.
I wanted to go for Duke Nukem Forever, but I refuse to vote for something that doesn’t exist yet!
I haven’t gone for HL2Ep2 simply because I’m not all that interested in it. What exactly makes that particular game so unique? From what I can tell, not a lot.
Absolutely nothing. But as I said earlier it’s the story that really interests me.
Definitely Bioshock, with either Episode 2 or Crysis in second place. All of the trailers of Bioshock show a lot of cool stuff and the game is being made ex-looking glass developers, which is enough of a draw in itself. If it’s in the vein of their games then a big, in-depth FPS will be a nice change from all the short ones recently. The art style also looks very cool.
Episode 1 restored my faith in Valve after my disappointment at HL2, but I’ll wait and see before I’m completely sold again.
Crysis also appears to have a lot of interesting ideas etc in it and it’s a sequel to Farcry, but I don’t know enough about it yet.
I thought that but we were both wrong. It’s a completely new IP.
Spiritual sequel then 😉 .
Nice vernacular Fluffy!
Yet another great question Phillip. Since I’m only able to get one the answer is simple – HL2:E2. I’m glad you didn’t ask me to rank them in the order of how I would get them, given that I only had enough money to buy them one-at-a-time. That would have been difficult.
I don’t want Bioshock. I’m more to the environment of crazy AI-ruled space constructs with nearly every human being dead rather then underwater cities constructed during the sixies.
That being said, System Shock 2 and Bioshock are only similar in gameplay.
For me it will have to be HL2 Episode2.
Steam is currently experiencing some technical difficulties.
no they hunger: lost souls? =( =P
im not really hip to the new titles and was for sure we would never get to see DNF (they annouced it was in the works in the year what…1998???) so thats high on my list as well as EP2.
That was going to be next weeks poll – Most anticipated Mod!
Great thread/question, getting 404’s on the few links there are for more info. though.
Maybe its here somewhere and I missed it, but this poll made me think, how about an “upcoming SP games” section? One with a “one stop shop” of multiple links for each representing places to go for more information? A lot of what people are talking about here with respect to these games, I don’t know about or understand, nor do I know where to find out more easily, much more!
You mean something like this:
Games in Development.
This link is in the sidebar near the bottom.
Oh me, duh…..lolol! 🙂
HL2: E2 & STALKER
I wait for Stalker and Bioshock to be released. I’m in for some new experiences and kinda feed up with straight and short shooter games.
Portal. Retroactively, it would be Orange Box, but I didn’t really know if I was a fan of the series for certain until after I played Half Life for the first time in Nov 2008 (and didn’t get Orange Box until after Xmas of 2008) so Portal was the game I was actually anticipating the release of before it actually came out.
Most of them were.. Always looking for new mods and maps to toy with.. even to this day..
Bioshock was really the true half Life successor in my mind : this incredible story….
Duke Nukem Forever : LOL. Ya know I’ve been waiting it since 1998?
