Paclife Alpha

for Half-Life 2: Episode Two

9th April 2010

Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

This is an Alpha release of a conversion of Pacman. It was due to be part of the Arcadium mod I was hoping to produce but unfortunately that hasn’t happened.

It was never designed for public release, as all alphas aren’t, but I am releasing it now, with Joe’s permission, so that in conjunction with the post about the mod, it may gain some exposure and hopefully members of the mapping community will decide it’s worth the effort and take the concept further.

I would like to publicly apologize to Joe for letting him down. Sorry Joe.

Joe’s Notes

Here is a alpha/beta (whatever) version of the map. It has the basic principles.
The Ghosts are unlocked on pills eaten. They are unlocked on 10, 20, and 30 pills. (There are 100 Pills)
Shotguns (power pill) One time use (there are only 2 currently). Gives you a shotgun for a limited time. Collecting these will make the ghosts run back to the centre and cower in fear (that was fun trying to do).
Architecture is much to be desired. Nothing that can’t be fixed though.
At the moment it’s rather easy. Still, rather enjoyable to sneak about trying not to be detected, or just blowing their faces off.

Definitely interesting. I found it hard to time getting the shotgun and being close to the cops. I suppose I could have just waited by the gun but that sort of defeats the purpose.

Remember, it’s an alpha and a LOT more work would have gone into making it really fun.

I swear I remember giving them guns. πŸ˜›

  2. Play It Later

Well I was pleased to see something fresh to play. While It was a bit unrefined and ” glam ” free, it was still an interesting concept I’d give another turn to when it’s finished.

  3. Play It Later

It was an good and enjoyable different experience with the great filling to switch from the hunted to the hunter πŸ™‚

  4. I guess it’s over when you collect all the pills? At that point, I had a horde of “ghosts” doing a pretty good job of following me, even though I’d killed 4 earlier. (I suppose 8 can look like a horde when you don’t have a weapon… :))

I kept trying to remember Pacman while playing this, though I don’t know if that would have helped since I wasn’t very good.

The first shotgun I grabbed early on, where there were no ghosts around and I didn’t know they ran to the center. Then it disappeared on me before I could use it. πŸ™ Maybe if I play through again I’ll try to time things better and not waste one.

  5. Play It Later

Play it! πŸ˜€ It’s a fun, very short but silly little adventure. Very clever use of the colorized Combines, as the ghosts, the map seemed very small though.

    Thumbs up, on this. πŸ™‚
