I am ashamed. Ashamed I haven’t played nearly as many Half-Life 2 and Episode 2 mods as I should have. So I’m trying to rectify the situation bit by bit.
So November’s Classic of the Month is Mission Improbable by Magnar Jenssen. Yes, I’ve never played it but come join me for my first time through!
I’ll be streaming Sunday at 11am Eastern US Time (4pm in the UK, 5pm Central Europe).
You should double check the Time & Date.Com website for your local time.
As usual the stream will be on the RunThinkShootLive YouTube Channel. See you there!
Phillip, I tried to watch your Utube vid, but the video would not play!! I usually have no problem watching any video, but I get a message that I don’t have a player called “HTML5” ! Is this something new?? If so how to correct the problem? 🙂
Which version? The one on the RunThinkShootLive site you’ve linked to has the first two parts, but there’s one for download with all three parts on http://magnarj.net/ (Magnar Jenssen’s website)
Blast, posted without enough time to edit my reply. The reason I suspect you have an earlier version is that the file sizes of the two files on your and Magnar Jenssen’s site are so different, though the dates are both 29th July 2012
We actually just updated the file to include the fix from this ModDB page: http://www.moddb.com/mods/mission-improbable/downloads/mission-improbable-patch-source-sdk-2013
Magnar’s site links to ModDB as well but it needs this patch to work. We just merged it into one download here.
Mission Improbable began as a single map with the lighthouse. It was really fun and reminded me a lot of Lost Coast with it’s dramatic vertical setting etc.. Later Magnar added maps 2 and 3 which are both fun to play and look great.
The clunky use of wheel chair man always bothered me. Yes faceposer is a bitch and it’s an interesting way of getting around the problem but I was never overly comfortable with the gag.
What’s interesting here is how Magnar returned to his project several times and expanded prior work. People were happy to replay the older work to get to the new stuff which I think is an interesting lesson to anyone who has older content that could be updated.
