Here’s a quick story outline for a Half-Life 2 mod. It’s not the deepest or most imaginative story or setting but it might provide some fun and interesting gameplay.
There you are minding your own business when along come the Metro Police and start harassing the other occupants of your building. You normally don’t pay any attention and try to just get on with your life. Unbeknown to you, a few of your neighbours have had contact with the, often talked about but rarely seen, rebels.
Well, this visit gets a little out of hand and you have little choice but to pick up a weapon from one of the above mentioned Metro police, or get killed. In fact the resistance is so successful, the police withdrew and a few Headcrab cannisters are fired into the neighbourhood and all escape routes are blocked. Nothing left to do except keep away from those damn things!
Unfortunately keeping out of their way proved harder than you thought and eventually you are attacked. You wake up to find you world view significantly changed. Personally you would simply like to just lie down and rest but unfortunately you seem to have two enemies now; the Combine and the Rebels!
Perhaps that scientist you heard of on the outskirts of the city who was experimenting on Zombies could help you. Sure, won’t take long to work over there, well normally it wouldn’t. Best to avoid any contact if possible. WHAT! Caught in the middle of an ambush between the Combine and the Rebels. Geez, what a day. Best you can do is fight back I suppose.
What’s this, you are now Combine soldier? How the hell did that happen? Captured by the Combine and sent to their Biological Zombie Reclamation Section. They even managed to keep your headcrab alive and put it into another cannister. They don’t waste anything these Combine, do they?
So now what? The Section is under attack? Defend it. Whatever! Just stay alive and maybe make it to that scientist, perhaps he’ll even help a Combine Solider turn back into a normal citizen.
You get there only to find he’s a zombie himself. NOOOOOOOO!
WAKE UP, WAKE UP. You were screaming. You look around the room at the other citizens staring at you. “You were screaming in your sleep. Must have been a really bad dream, huh?”
Zombie part might be hard, since I believe that headcrabs can’t take control of people if they feel threatened (the reason why they don’t take control of citizens when somebody is nearby with guns).
Of course, that’d just my opinion.
The “twist” is sorta clichéd…
I understand the gaming aspect of it, but I’d prefer one gimmick per mod. From citizen to zombie to combine just seems too silly for a single mod. However, that wouldn’t keep me from playing it if somebody DID actually dedicate the time to make it 😉
Yeah, you’re right, but I did say it wasn’t the deepest story. I did toy with the idea of making it Gordon Freeman who wakes up at the beginning of Episode 1 but I thought that was even worse!
Probably true, but I thought that maybe for one hour’s worth of gameplay it may be fun.
I’m still waiting for the Half-Life 2 RTS…
Being a zombie would be annoying, since you’d be walking slooooowwwlllyyyyy with the view bobbing like mad.
Fast zombie would be something hard to survive from, since it’s practically a skeleton with muscles on it.
It’s Frohamns http://www.hlcomic.com adventure?
He didn’t loss her mind when turned in a hideous monster with only Instict to catch FOOD?
Sorry, but is hard to believe. Hell that’s a bad dream! XD
He ate a sandwich of tongue before going to sleep?
PD: better to use a fast zombie.
True, I didn’t think of that.
It might be hard for you to believe but I certainly have nightmare like this. Also if I actually lived in that universe then I might be worried about those exact things.
Yes, but maybe start off as a normal one and evolve.
OMG the citizen is FROHMAN from the Concerned HL comic http://hlcomic.com
Now I’ve got an ide. What about to make a mod based on the story of the comic or if not the story, at least with Gordon Frohman as the main character. LOL wouldn’t that be funny? =P
Agreed, could be good fun!
