  1. Decent level design. The lack of transitions from map to map (you have to manually load each map) really harms it though. The maps are also fairly small, it seems like many (if not all of them) could be combined into one large file. I wouldn’t call it a bad pack. Just not very good. It shows promise however. I’d play future works of this author.

    Maybe?

Good up to a point. It is a beta, so the lack of HEV and health pick ups and map loads should be tolerated. But it’s not really playable.

  3. 23-down

Download link is dead please fix this as I would like to give this one a try.

    Avoid It!

Yes, it’s a first mod. But this should never have been released – you can’t even consider it a beta. There are no level transitions, you have to load each map manually. And then, you’re never given an HEV or even enough ammo, since you start anew each map.

But what’s there isn’t good. It’s blocky, often poorly scaled, and the lighting is ugly. The combat is boring and only challenging since you’re limited on ammo and it’s difficult to switch weapons (no suit).

Don’t bother, this isn’t for public consumption. I only reviewed it since I plan to play this author’s other maps soon.

  5. Avoid It!

There’s not much to say about this mappack, besides it just looks and IS very unfinished.
Can’t consider it as a Beta too, just like Unq wrote.
Mapchange doesn’t work and you have to load all maps manually.
The readme says “lab6” doesn’t have a exit which is true as it’s one very tiny map, but all other maps don’t have working exits too, so it’s the same for every map.
There is some combat with a few weapons and few enemies, but it’s just boring.
Another negative thing is that there’s no HEV suit at all times, meaning no flashlight.
Maps aren’t too dark, but at some spots the suit could be useful.
What’s more annoying is the empty corridors, many locked doors and just nothing to do.
There are some sounds of the 2001 FPS game “Return to Castle Wolfenstein”, and one map even looks like it’s inspired from that game (the large lab with alien grunts).

It could have been a nice mappack, but in this stats it’s unplayable and ridiculous.
Potential wasted, so don’t waste your time “playing” this.

NOTE: *IF* the major missing features would be fixed, I’d definitely play it…
