I say MAYBE, mainly because it’s so short and I have the feeling most readers don’t like maps this small.
It’s certainly not a bad map and as part of something larger it would work very nicely.
It took me a while to find the weapons and the ending is a little strange, but it brought back memories of BM, so that’s cool.
Only play this is you love BM and want to play everything.
Small but very well designed map! I guess the ending was a temporay solution for a sequel that was never done. I had only two issues with it: 1) Placing detonation packs on top of an explodable crate is stupid! Not only is it illogical that the packs don’t explode when the crate does, it also makes it possible for the player to get stuck behind the bars if it did. 2) The very tempting brick wall at the exit sounds like steel when you hit it. I would guess that it was originally planned to be opened using the detonation packs to move into the next level…
IF U love hl, as phillip says, then play it but don’t expect big deal, is soo shoort, maybe good being a demo for a bigger mod or something like that, oh by the way I noccliped at the end, I didn’t find how to end this map.
The architecture and lighting are done well. There is an ominous silence which is sometimes broken by monster’s growl. There’s an interesting jumping. In the end I was thinking that the most intense part will start now, and suddenly… A distasteful ending happened, which erased my positive impression. So its “maybe” rating is fair.
I would have almost preferred a “the end” text come up
Pretty solid architecture and texture work. Overall a fairly decent experience ruined only by the lackluster ending and boring gameplay.
If I just drop down at the tracks at the very beginning, I finish map in under 2 minutes.
“mybm”
LOL
Another (short) Black Mesa map with good flair but many flaws.
Pro’s:
-Quite good design
-Good balancing
-Puzzles
-Nice BM feeling
-Interesting start
Con’s:
-No story
-Very short
-“Find-a-weapon-or-at-least-the-crowbar” “race”
-Less action
-Not used game potential in my eyes, what a pity!
This one is OK for a few minute distraction but in general isn’t really worth the time. It’s mapped competently but not really attractively, and much of it is too dark. In particular, I thought a couple of carefully placed lights would have gone a long way toward guiding (but not hand-holding) the player. Let’s be clear – it’s not possible to get lost in this map, but you might miss a key weapon (the crowbar). You have to explore a bit to find it.
I actually kind of like the author’s approach, sending you scrambling a bit before you can fight back. And it’s just against zombies so they’re pretty easy to avoid. The combat certainly isn’t the highlight here, it’s a nice start to what could have been a decent map. It only took me 9 minutes because I got most of the way through and then realized I was trapped and weaponless, so I restarted and played again.
