  1. Phillip says Play It!

Almost a WOW recommendation but not quite. Mainly be cause it was just too hard. Now, let me qualify that. Some mods are hard and that adds to the enjoyment, in this case having 5 Hunters appear almost at the same time was too much, being stuck in an arena with 3 Antlion Guards is too much.

Some areas were really nicely designed, the part with the Combine soldiers dropping from the roof was great, although it didn’t always trigger properly.

Visually, it use the Ep2 assets well and the detailed areas were well done, but some of the corridors were clearly made just to join other parts of the action, rather than feeling as though they were part of the design.

Overall, you should definitely paly it, but be prepared for the fight of your life. Quick save could be your best friend in this md.

    Harder isn’t always better.

Hey Philip. I copied the folder into sourcemods, but it won’t show up in games tab. I’ve done this 100s of times. Are those the right directions?
    Thanx

    1. To my knowledge they are and that’s how I installed it. It’s listed under “ep2_muripo”.

  3. Gradius

Actually the author didn’t include the stuff needed for it to show up, you’ll have to drag the subfolders into your episode 2/ep2 directory instead.

    1. That was the original release. Anbyb converted it into a proper mod for me and that’s what my upload should be.

  4. Gradius

Well it isn’t the release I got your the PP download. :/

    1. You’re right, I just downloaded it and double checked. I’ll have to figure out what went wrong. Sorry everybody!

      1. Okay, new upload now online, everything should be fine. Once again, sorry about that.

  5. Maybe?

What would have been a good mod has been let down by three major flaws I think:

    1. Stuff quite frequently doesnt seem to trigger properly
    2. The enemy placement is quite bad, atleast out of what I’ve played, four combine stood facing a door for no apparent reason that all shoot at you after a split second. Have them be doing something and have them not be in large clumps that are artifically hard to beat.
    3. Too much enemies. The chambers each had you stuck in them four 5-10 minutes a piece which is way too long to hold my attention, felt more like the trigger to advance was broken. Alyx frequently died because of the sheer volume of enemies too until I ditched her and noclipped to the next section. Oh and three-four hunters behind a door? Yeah… don’t do that.

  6. Maybe?

It takes ages before you get the suit but it has been well thought out because you seem get the weapon you need when you need it.
Oddly, as often happens in mods, you appear to take more damage without the suit than with it. Very peculiar. Moving on.

Combat tacticians like me will be disappointed. Tactics not required.

Before getting the Suit you get the enemy a squad at a time.

After getting the Suit, you get the enemy a Division at a time. The spawning stops either after a given time or after so many have been killed. I was too busy surviving to count or look at my watch!

In essence, the mod comprises of linked but individual survival arenas from which you cannot escape until the arena has been cleared.

Other than that, the mapping was generally pretty good.
If the combat action had been paced this could have been at least a PIN
I normally like to play mods at least 3 times at all the skills but not this one. I doubt it’s doable in hard. No replay value for me.
Standing toe to toe with the adversary is not combat in the eyes of this player. Mindless slaughter is available at the local abattoir.

    Just survive, Combat tactics redundant.

  7. Avoid It!

I truly hate to give any map/mod the “avoid it” tag because I can’t map and I do appreciate those that can and the work that is put into it but this was not an enjoyable piece of work (In My Opinion) It was just one respawning enemy of every kind non stop, some triggers didnt work for me and I had no HUD or manual weapons switch, just far too overwhelming spawns for my personal taste, Maybe some supergamers will enjoy it but I have a feeling most will not. Maybe some folders didnt load right for me but I had no flashlight available and some areas where completely dark, had no idea where I was going, I needed to noclip through what I guess was suppose to be a maze of some sort, (right after coming down the elevator) nothing happened except Alyx and the Dr just standing there. I too usually like to give every map/mod a couple of plays starting on easy and progressing to hard mode but this isnt one of them.

  8. Maybe?

For this one I turned on god mode early (I was frustrated and looking for the suit) and forgot to turn it off. I’m actually okay with that, because otherwise I would have died about a zillion times–yes there was lots of health and ammo, but I don’t know if I could have gotten to them in time.

Most of the “arena” areas are also very dark. There are flares, but I’m not agile enough to shoot and run for ammo/health and grab flares… If I were able to do all that, I might give this a PIL.

The suit is in the area with Kleiner–the puzzle to get it is actually pretty simple, but getting it earlier would have been nice.

  9. Think Twice

AAAAARRRGGGGHHHH !! I was so irritated 15 minutes in, that I couldn’t enjoy any of the elements of a mod I usually anticipate.

Walk and gun, walk and gun ( could barely move ), no HUD ( I happen to like one ), no weapons switch. Might have been challenging, but I couldn’t tell through the spawning Overkill ! Enough whining.

I’ll try it again sometime later on, but as Jasper stated, to a more tactical player like myself, it’s all just more or less a pain in the ass ( to me ). I will give it credit for being well laid out and the mapping seemed pretty solid, from what I had a chance to look at. I don’t know the authors intended goal here was, but I know I didn’t enjoy the game-play at all. Too much nothing.

    Personal Favourite

Complete and utter mayhem, I loved every second of it. Yes, much of it was way over the top, but I have never been so completely immersed in such frantic action. There were many time I thought I would never get though the sequence, but some how I just kept going and made it through endless encounters that appeared impossible at first sight.

I was amazed that with so much action going on I experience no slow downs or crashes, I am not sure what it will take to top this one, but for sure I don’t think my heart will take a second play through. I guess it’s not going to be to every ones liking, but what is, for sure you need to be a die hard action packed lover for this one, you wont get much time to assess the finer points of mapping or the technique merits of this mod, I cant recall too much about the sets and they design, I was too wrapped up with staying alive and wondering what was coming next.

If you like your mods action packed and mixed with a few devilish puzzles, then this one is for you, but be warned it’s no stroll in the park it’s tough and challenging with no rest-bite, no story to comfort you or areas to relax and take stock, just steadily increasing mayham.

  11. Maybe?

I didn’t care for it.Seems like a bunch of arena type maps packed together. No objective except to get to the end.The puzzle was not even hard to figure out.

  12. Senator33

Having problems with key bindings on this game.

Is there a file I can borrow from another Ep2 mod to fix the bindings?

    Thanx.

    1. What do you mean? Can’t you just go into the Keyboard options and change them to what you want? If you want the normal, default HL2 settings just click “Use Defaults”.

      1. Senator33

Did both…there are some of the bindings that just wont work, such as “sprint” and weapons selection with the mouse wheel.

        1. Someone else will have to address this, then.

          1. Really drove me nuts ! I decided it must have been meant to act that way or something. 😛

        2. Anon_223422

Are you, by any chance, left-handed?

    2. @ Senator33.
This is an EP2 map, ie a BSP, not a mod. The key bindings you have for EP2 will be the same for the map.
I think you may have only just started.
You cannot change weapons or sprint without the suit.
You don’t get the suit for quite some time. You will meet Kleiner and have to do a ball puzzle with the G Gun to get the suit.
Then your in for a very torrid time.

      1. This is an EP2 map, ie a BSP, not a mod. The key bindings you have for EP2 will be the same for the map.

I don’t think that’s correct. You probably played it when it was a map but it’s been converted to appear here.

The reason the sprint doesn’t work is possibly related to the fact you need the HEV for that, as you said.

        1. You’re right Phillip. I downloaded and played when it was a mess of files and folders.
I have your mod version now.
Tested the mod. Senator33 and no key binding issues.
The rest of it is okay, no sprint or weapons change until you get the suit, no torch either.

  13. Think Twice

Enemies were over-spawned, it was literally impossible to beat this game on normal without Alyx dying. I had to use godmode several times. putting 3-4 Hunters in a single room was hard enough, don’t add a bunch of Combines with Shotguns to the mix.

No HUD for the latter of the game, and I prefer to be able to scroll through the weapons as I please, not be forced to hold a grenade over a shotgun until I use all of the grenades. Remember to place a suit at spawn next time. The puzzles were challenging, and they where fun, somewhat. The first one, with the gap between the two metal grates, I couldn’t get across that gap without the suit Auxiliary power in order to sprint.

The mapping was good, though. Not too crowded, aside from the piles of bodies you have to walk around after each room. But, I suppose that’s why there was so much room– to hold that capacity of all the dead bodies.

But, enough whining from me. The puzzles were kind of fun, but I was too distracted by the onslaught of enemies to actually think them through. 2 Stars. Seems to me as though you never tested this mod yourself, to be honest. -.-

  14. Avoid It!

No sane person could possibly give this mod any higher than a Play it later, no matter how bad their taste is.

Strike 1 – No suit = No flashlight, no sprinting, no armor, and NO WEAPON CHANGING. Did you pick up a shotgun last? Then that’s what you’re going to use, despite the fact that the other combine are shooting at you from across the entire map so your shotgun doesn’t even work. Did you pick up a grenade? I bet that would work great on the turrets that show up later in the map but TOO BAD FUCK YOU. You’ll have to throw it at the single combine that’s still shooting at you. He’ll run away so it wont even hurt him, but you wont be able to shoot back until you get rid of it. Doesn’t that make a whole fuck load of sense?

Strike 2 – Endless Enemy Spawning without clear objective. Excuse me, I’m trying to solve a puzzle here or figure out where the hell I’m supposed to be going, and I have some asshole constantly warping in and shooting at me over and Over and OVER again. Fine, you can do your endless spawn if you want, but do it AFTER I know what the hell the objective is.

Strike 3 – Alyx. I have never seen a mod in which Alyx was such a useless dumbass bitch. You find her in a room, just sorta hanging out. You lose her at the first puzzle. You finally work your way back to the doors she’s stuck behind and unblock them and they still don’t open. Well fine, fuck her, she was being useless anyway. I go through the entire rest of the map only to have the lights shut off on me after I start typing on a computer. I actually manage to kick some ass only to find “Oh hey, you lose anyway cause your ally died” WHAT ALLY? Oh gee, apparently the bitch finally decides to follow me, if only for the express purpose of putting herself in a situation likely to result in her getting killed. As if it isn’t enough trouble fighting 2 hunters and endless combine in the dark with absolutely no flashlight or ability to sprint or gravity gun or even armor, and only the occasional flare that is right next to so many other items that you can’t even pick it up properly when the battle starts.

Beyond that, the mapping was incredibly basic, no crowbar or gravity gun at all, and enemy spawning was either outright bad, or limited to “a couple guys standing in a room or hallway for no reason”

Maybe there is more to this mod, but I don’t care. I played the whole way through Strider Mountain, but at least the mapping was interesting even if many aspects were pulled off badly. This mod is just frustrating purely for the sake of being frustrating.

    1. BlasterBates

Yes, but did you like it? [DUCKS to avoid searing blast of invective – Grey Acumen turns purple, swells up & explodes hugely! PlanetPhillip is rocked by the massive blast, flaming expletives rain down for many minutes; finally, stunned silence descends & the survivors cautiously peer forth – Alas, Acumen is gone & FlyBoy is nought but a greasy, smoking stain…]

Hey Mel, I agree with you allaround!! This was a good one, lots of action, lots of killing!! ofcourse I save allot and like to play in the “HARD” mode! So as the Grey one said above, “No sane person could possibly give this mod any higher than a Play it later, no matter how bad their taste is.” I must be INSANE “LOL” oh well I’ve been called worse! haha I have to compare the action to another of my favs “Fear2 PO”

  16. Think Twice

I don’t believe anyone could play this and survive – it is far too hard. I played on godmode after the first 5 minutes.
The ideas and maps are good enough, but too too difficult!

  17. Mel

I don’t consider myself insane; to call someone insane just because they gave a mod a certain rating is a sure sigh of megalomania.

I rate mods on whether I enjoyed and had fun playing, and I did with this one. I can honestly say I did not cheat with this mod, I died a lot and took up to 6 attempts to complete many sequences. Yes it was hard but it is doable, most sequences can be worked out and it’s noticeable that you progress a bit with every attempt and a little thought.

As for with the big boss sequences, it’s very much a matter of keep moving, get your shot off on the run, there is normally plenty of health and ammo laying around that you can pick up on the run, just keep moving, I am sure there is a time limit to some of these harder boss sequences, so just stay alive and keep on the move.

I do often cheat but this is when I get bored with a situation, which was never the case with this mod, I said previously that this mod would be too over the top for most players and you needed to be a die hard action lover to enjoy it, as such it’s not the sort of mod one would dissect in terms of the normal of pros and cons, just a matter of whether you enjoyed the mayhem action or not.

  18. Avoid It!

I used every cheat that was made, I have played many HL mods since 1999, but I quit playing this one, way too many things that I did not like to list. I simply just lost interest and quit playing 1st time ever.

  19. OMG!!!!!!!!!! LMAO…. I rate Grey Acumen’s REVIEW as my all time Personal Favorite. Whether you agree with him or not ( I do ) that is some funny stuff right there, Cmon Grey tell us how you really feel, dont hold back lol! “useless dumass b!tch” I was laughing so hard I damned near peed myself lol

    1. BlasterBates

Yup! Very much a case of ‘light blue touchpaper and RUN LIKE HELL!!
Volatility aside, it was all true though. Kudos!

  20. I started this mod but did not finish. I got as far as standing toe to toe with Combine Elite and then Hunters. I was told that it carried on like this but with different enemies. Not for me so I stopped.
I can easily see that this will be delightful for those that like this style though and good for them.

    1. Might I suggest trying with God mode on. That’s the only way I could play it.

  21. Maybe?

Had some good parts, but stupid hard. I mean stupid. Get your god mode ready.

  22. Hec
    Think Twice

I think this is terribly wrong in layouts terms, actually it seems that there’s no layout at all!!; just a bunch of arenas joined together with bunch of waves of really hard ass ennemys, so be advised and prepared for what is mayhem and CMB violence at a million percent!; if u like those swarming overwhelmed kind of mods, then this is for you, only for real hardcore fans.

That labyrinth puzzle is cool, but then we have a major sin for HL2 maps and mods, please DONT MAKE ME START KILLING WITHOUT AN HEV SUIT!!!, that start makes it even 100000000 percent more difficult and can discourage the player so bad, and even then, how they dare to fight against 3 hunters at the beggining without the suit!!!, I mean is no sense, and not confortable with that baby sitin” Alyx, and take care that she doesn’t die!!!; come on, those details make me think that the developer really wanted to abuse the benevolence of the loosy players, so that’s a really rude aspect of this whole mod, I mean 4 antlions guards to fight against in the last arena!!!; please don’t rip me off, overall I have the felling that this mod was built thinking that it was about to be a pain in the ass all the maps you get through really, is strange because is a LOve it or Hate it mod really is!.

  23. Download link is broken.

  24. Think Twice

The hud didn’t work because I didn’t have the suit. Without it you can’t switch weapons.

  25. Think Twice

Holy shit. I’ve never played a more intense mod in my life. I spent just over an hour to beat this mod. I did beat it without cheats and I died only a handful of times. You get the suit at the halfway point. Your companions can die until you get the suit. Please think twice about playing this mod and here’s why…

    Score Sheet

Usage of space and world brushes: 3/10
Corridors and hallways packed with respawning enemies. Not much there. Just long hallways. At least it was textured.

    Visuals: 2/10
I was not impressed in the slightest. There is nothing to look at. This is the very opposite of eye-candy. It’s more like eye-salt, if that makes any sense.

    Gameplay: 2/10
Oh god. The combat. Repawning enemies like SPOILER: antlion guardians, glowing antlion guardians, zombines, soldiers of all classes, antlions. You don’t get the suit until the halfway point. There are no tactics besides spray and pray. The only good thing about this mod is you get so many heath kits and suit batteries. I died more without the suit than with it because you can’t swap weapons until you have the suit. Unless I’m missing something very obvious, you can’t swap weapons without the suit.

    Final Score: 7/30 – 23%

Final Comments: Don’t play it unless you are an adrenaline junkie like myself. That last battle was brutal, but can be completed.

  26. Avoid It!

No suit at half of the map? 0/10
