WOW, it’s hard to know where to start with this mod, but before I do start downloading it. At 319Mb, depending on your download speed, it might be finished by the time you finish reading this review.
Breaking the feedback sandwich (praise/criticism/praise) rule, I’m going to jump and list the negatives points.
The Squad: Everybody who has played Half-Life 2 knows how annoying the damn squad system is. Always getting in your way, not able to follow you, having to go back and get them etc. At first they were driving me crazy. That’s why most mod makers don’t use them. But to NOT have them in this mod would seem very strange. Well, this mod doesn’t actually change that. They still get in your way and are a complete PITA, BUT the great thing is here, that they get replaced almost every ten minutes. Lose one or two? Don’t worry because there are so many soldiers scattered around the place that you pick them up everywhere.
The contrast between hi-res and low-res: Check image 13 for a good example. There’s a frustrating mix of high resolution and low resolution textures and models. Most of the time it’s not a problem but sometimes it is.
Not enough beta testing: This mod should have had a lot of beta testing. Invisible walls, strange, complicated routes, node graphs not built before release, stuff like that. It just needs more polish. Now I accept that it was never really meant to be released and I understand why the author released it as he did, but with a bit of effort, this could have been stunning mod.
The Routes: WOW, did I get lost a few times. Definitely felt that more work could have been given to making some of the routes more obvious.
Optimisation: I don’t have the great PC in the world, or even in my town but it rarely struggles with EP2 mods. This mod could have done with more optimisation.
It’s really, really hard in some places.: Now, many players love hard, but at some points it got amazingly hard. I suspect the author hasn’t considered or doesn’t care about average players.
The Operations: I would have preferred that this mod were one complete mission rather than those seven distinct missions.
The lighting: This mod definitely needs some work in that department. Contrast is just way to high.
Killing the scientists: I wasn’t sure what was happening at first but it seems my squad were killing the unarmed scientists, which I didn’t like very much. Call me a pussy, but there’s no need for that in a mod.
Okay, so those are my negatives, time for the positives…
The Squad: Once I got into the new squad setting, it was pretty cool. I had them if they were around and didn’t worry if I left them behind. It’s actually nice to not feel that I need to always have to “push” them into places. There’s plenty more fish in the sea.
The general feel: Some of the sections are fantastic. Yes, some criticism has been levelled at the level design (see what I did there?) and some areas are bland compared to others but overall, I really did feel as though I were in Black Mesa. I could have done with some bigger internal settings, but as I said, overall it was good.
The new elements: There are a couple of new enemies, that I won’t be talking about, that are pretty damn cool. The new models and stuff are nice but I could have easily done without those.
The old elements: Reusing the voice acting form some of the older games was fun and for regular readers you get another chance to hear the “Cooper, Forget about Freeman”, radio transmission I had as a recent trivia question.
The battles: Phew, there are some great battles. Lots of angles and directions. Some buildings even can be destroyed, which killed my frames per second, but provided some fun.
The fighter Jets: Although the author says he didn’t make the mod to rebuild any games, it’s hard not to make a BMS comparison. The jets flying over are very cool. In fact, the whole mod makes me want BMS even more than before, which admittedly wasn’t that much, but you get the idea.
The ending: Damn, what a way to finish! Not only beautiful, but amazing to play.
Enough negatives and positives. Time for a summary.
This could have been an amazing mod, definitely a Personal Favourite. As it stands with all the little issues, it gets a “Play It Now!”. Some readers will say “Maybe” other will possibly put it as a “Personal Favourite”. It’s a mod you should play but expect to get lost and have a pretty tough time of it.
Fingers crossed the author agrees to an audio interview. I’ll allow readers to submit questions for that I think.
Go play it now.
Great review, Phillip! I’m definitely going to check the mod out. But uh… the military WAS killing the scientists in the original game. Same with Blue Shift and Decay.
Yes, but I wasn’t doing the killing, that’s what I don’t really like.
I havent played this yet, but im confused, is it impossible to kill the scientists? whats the problem?
There’s no problem, I just don’t like shooting unarmed scientists.
May I ask what level of difficulty your review is based on Phillip ?
Easy.
Great review Phillip.
For a mod that was not really meant for release, I found this to be quite shiny, (polished), and a joy to play.
As for killing the scientists; they fired on me first!
But I did let a few go. Not all; just a few!
A “Bravo!” for the release of such a nostalgic mod!
Not the unarmed ones, which were the ones I was referring to.
Looks like I’m the first to have a problem with mod. I’m getting the following error:
“The Instruction at “0x114e247f” referenced memory at “0x18cbb018”. The memory cannot be “read”.”
I originally downloaded this mod from Moddb.com. In the “Latest News” on the mod it said:
“HDR is REQUIRED for game to render properly”. I don’t know what that means, but I have a feeling it has something to do with the error I’m getting. Can someone tell me why I’m getting that error when the mod is being loaded?
They are unrelated. The HDR error is not as bad, just go to video settings and turn on HDR. If your computer doesnt allow hdr then the game shoudl still play but the lighting may not be as good as before. HDR means High Dynamic range, is basically makes light things kinda glow for a second or two because your “eyes” are adjusting to the light if you understand what Im talking about.
Is the HDR setting something I can set in HL2ep2 so it will be set when I launch this mod? The error I get happens when I launch the mod. I’ll try to set the HDR setting in HL2ep2. Thanx for your reply.
So where are we supposed to go after the helipad bit? The door both back and forward are locked, and even cheating doesn’t show me anyplace to go. The screenshots don’t show how to proceed.
Otherwise, impressive; an inkling of what Black Mesa might be like…
I’m having the same issue 🙁
From where the zombies came from, look on the wall for a switch. It’s a bit hard to notice.
Thanks, that helped.
Thanks for that!
This…
This is just plain weird, awesome, and very surreal all wrapped up in one nice package.
I decided to play this in one go, and I must say, for all the weirdness, it was worth it.
You see this game is a bizarro mix of HL1 and HL2:EP2. It has graphics from both, npc’s from both, and brand new npcs as well. Those new enemies are a massive pain, but I would HIGHLY suggest running from the larger of the bunch.
As far as mapping goes, it needs a bit of work, I saw a LOT of texture errors. No missing ones, just a lot of textured weirdness. The thing is tho, is that a lot of maps are nearly direct mimics of the original. I call them mimics because while it does mirror a lot of it, there are some differences between this, and the old maps. Like I said, Bizarro Half-life.
Another problem is that switches are often hidden, almost too well.
Also, if you see a small table with ammo on it, DO NOT JUMP ON IT. I don’t know why, but when I did that, I saw all my health disappear. Also, there was a very weird and tiny patch of leeches in otherwise leech free water.
Piece of advice: Look well, this mod will actually reward those that take the time to look out of their way. The crossbow is decently hidden too.
There were quite few WOW moments for me, and one of them comes fairly early. Kudos to whoever programmed the new npcs.
My one and only major beef is that the two “golden entities” disappeared and I never got to fight them. 🙁 Still, the mod ended on a very strong note, I wound up leaving with little to no ammunition and very large body-count from the finale. Thoroughly satisfied, despite its flaws.
Man I loved this mod, all my thumbs up on this one, altough I know it has it’s details that has to be polished, and I recognize its lack of some elemental things in modding, like the beta testing the textures balance and those issues. But, getting things in context, this mod was most likley awsome because follow the simply goal to entretain and play a cool time with friends along with HL and Black Mesa. So I have to recognize these guys for sharing the mod with the community because they’re giving us kind of a personal project here.
Perhaps I have some bias writing about this mod because I have to recognize it and maybe I have to say it out loud –IM A BIG NOSTALGIC GEEK ABOUT BLACK MESA AND HL1–, so having this in my hands was like having a great jewl on my fingers, it made me remind lots of things and good moments of playing there in old Black Mesa.
Now days, actually, modding in source about the past Black Mesa and so, is knd of really underestimated, I don’t know why, maybe because modding about the CMB ruled world, is like the “big coal mine”, any modder can go and have the bits required of coal to make its CMB vs Resistance-Freeman mod, ok I know is too much easier to use the tools source and HL2 ofers than using and having complications on the old textures, models and things like that. But I honestly think that this knd of mods I mean regarding to HL1 and Black mesa are a great virgin mass to start sculping some cool mods using the source engine, I know it’s complicated but look at Human Error, they modeled fantastic and so we were able to kill those Xen soildiers again, those controllers well we have them too there, I hope after Black Mesa Source mod is released, they coulld share their models to have more mods based on that wonderful past we played.
I agree also with those guys whose say that this mod should be polished and then we could have a pretty awsome job here, that’s just a suggestion.
And last I think killing unarmed sientists were no problem for me because I was in the flesh of an automat soildier who followed superior orders to sweep BM as actually happened in the story of HL1 , then in this BM FB mod we had to survive and kill those black ops squad whose were also killing fellow soildiers, and so we are not killing scientists anymore so that balanced the things, and was ok, because u just are trying to escape from the hell place BM was turned into. if u look at thoose HL1 mods MOST of them have that simply goal get the heck outta BM, as in this fantastic Mesa Fallback we did.
Oh I Also loved those HL2 enemys I know the fast, poison headcrabs were unexistent in HL1, but I like to assume that here in this mod, BM facility was actually Huge so those ennemys as antlions and its momma guards, could be possible to face there and mess with them, because if in OP force we have the invassion of the X race, why here we can not have a invassion of the future ennemys we were about to find in HL2?, I just love those crash of subculture details we have in this mod, about HL1 beautys and HL2 great assets.
@ Filthy McNasty
Try do enable High Dynamic Range (HDR) in the graphics options under “Advanced..”, could be that. Otherwise something about the memory and try original Valve games or mods.
Thanx for the reply. I can’t get the mod to load, so I can’t make that type of change. The error occurs during initial program load. I would think that HDR setting in the mod settings itself. It’s not a steam setting (pls correct me if I’m wrong). Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
I have the same problem. And it’s not the first and only mod that give me such an error (Dyno D-Day is another one). I’ve tryed almost anything, including uninstallig/reinstalling Steam and HL series
I’ll try to download it from PP (I’ve downloaded it first from MODDB last week) but… not much hope.
Thanx in advance for any ideea.
@ Filthy McNasty
Ok, tricky problem. Maybe you can ask from Moddb too. Or see if Steam support can help you. Try download the mod from PP.
Thanx for reply…I using the copy from PP. This is not the only mod I’ve had that problem with. Steam support will not help because it’s a third party mod. I may contact to see if I can get the meaning of this error.
When it comes to other things than shooting, most mods fail miserably and I see this mod as another part of the chain. When you look close, everything is there. New weapons, new NPCs, and lots of maps. But it’s not as good as it sounds.
Story/storytelling is nonexistent and level design is pretty bad. Actually all you do in the mod is a) searching for enemies, b) searching the exit. Maybe this is all you need to play a game but that’s if it’s done right.
Most maps are replicas of old Half Life maps, and even some are multiplayer maps, thus they don’t work for single player. They are like mazes rather than realistic places. I think they used lots of Half Life 1 and Opposing Force content in there with some improvements but they don’t fit since quality is low.
Missions doesn’t make sense, there is no pacing, there is no reason behind anything you do. It mostly feels like a random map pack.
Only thing I can recommend about this mod is its shooting. It feels mostly right since weapons are strong and sound good. Some assault scenarios are quiet fun, and clearing out the place creates some atmosphere. But that’s all. For all the other things look elsewhere, like I should have done.
civanT summed up my main issues with this MOD regarding the level design, lack of story and the pacing in general. Still, I found it to be quite fun despite these drawbacks. If you’re just looking for something to kill about 2 hours with then check this out.
I hope this mod will be finished properly (the textures will be polished). Anyway I find this unique and interesting. The graphic of the game is something between HL 1 and HL 2. I think maybe because was developed or only for first Half-Life at the begining or was developed in a long time period and after was repolished for Half-Life 2.
If the author wil continue his work on this will be for sure one of the Favorites! The story is great so will be realy petty if the author will not continue his work to finish the graphic.
I’ve just started this mod so I will not yet post a recommendation, but it really needs some polish already! Not only does it make the typical beginners mistakes like including the creators cfg file (which forces everyone else to redo their controls setup) and not including the node info files (which causes the AI node rebuilding messages onscreen), but it adds new cool weapon models without changing the inventory icons and tries to simulate the original Opposing Force night vision ending up with a very strange green flashlight. All of these are small but important issues that should be easily fixeable in an updated version.
After reading some of the various comments I was not quite sure what to expect, but boy’o’boy this is the best I’ve played for a long, which is why it’s my very first Personal Favourite.
As I’m not a modder or mapper I can’t comment on the textures but the mix of old and new gave it a familiar feeling of being back in Black Mesa. Despite the of the negatives I just play mods for enjoyment and this one didn’t disappoint. When playing any mod/map I take into consideration that they rarely are made by professionals and as such all I ask is that it entertains me for a while. The only real gripe was the inclusion of the [removed because it was a spoiler – Phillip], neither was in Black Mesa or any of the Half Series so the were completely out of place.
Overall it was great to see old familiar locations, it was almost like being back home (sniff)!
Hi Phillip.
As the offending articles are in the screenshots above I’m not sure it could be called a spoiler! but as this is your site I accept your descision.
It’s true, but I warn the readers that the screenshots contain spoilers. That said, I suppose it’s their own fault if they read a comment and then complain it has a spoiler.
@ Filthy McNasty
I’ve started Ep2 and activated HDR, turned it off and then started Messa Fallback; The game started but crashed after the setting screen (so I also activated HDR for the mod). THE NEXT 3-4 TIMES IT DIDN’t STARTED AT ALL AGAIN – like at the beginning.
The conclusion: that’s not the setting who makes the difference. I’ll keep triyng, but honestly my only hope is to buy another computer (but my wife will get mad, I” sure about… ).
Still waiting for a better ideea…
This mod may not be very polished in certain areas, but it sure was fun to play. It brought back a lot of memories from when I first played HL. I was a little confused about why I was killing scientists in some missions while not in others, but it worked out ok. The new enemies were cool and difficult if you didn’t have the right weapons available. Definitely worth downloading and playing.
Stuck in op6f – found the firing range and pulled the switch in the nearby electrical area, which seemed to do nothing. Me and my squad have worn ourselves out running all over the area to find the exit. Can someone help a guy out?
“Stuck in op6f — found the firing range and pulled the switch in the nearby electrical area, which seemed to do nothing.”
Yeah, I’m stuck there too. I also tried shooting the targets–the bullseyes light up red when you hit them, but as far as I can see nothing else changes. Anybody have the solution?
I got stuck in op6f too. I eventually got the three switches in the electrical area to operate. I had tried several times and assumed they were non-functional, but I tried climbing around in the electrical area (up on those three switches then onto the black lever to the right), then looked back at the nearest switch and to my surprise got it to operate. The other two worked as well then. After that you can go downstairs and into the previously unpowered elevator to finish the level. I don’t think this is a spoiler – I think it’s a glitch!
Thanks, CF. It took a few tries to get into just the right position, but I was finally able to trip the switches. I agree–it’s definitely a glitch in the code.
I found that it is really easy to operate the switches if you simply crouch down, then they worked easily for me. Thanks for the tip CF, I was stuck in this area also…..
help stuck in the area where you discover the gravity gun looked for a way out for 3 days but no luck can anybody help
Look in the vent with the fast headcrab in the same room, there is a ladder that goes up, take that.
thanks, after playing half life for years I missed what was obvious kept looking for another way I should of known better thanks again
I found that unusual route after a few round trips, but I could not get off the ladder at the top no matter what I tried!
Did anyone else have to “noclip” past this ladder?
I played this mod like half-through and got pissed. After reading the review, Imma go back and finish the 300MB I downloaded… for the ending.
Also, was I the only one with the stomach to kill the unarmed scientists? hehe.. I had no problem shooting them in the head with a shotgun in point-blank range. I even lobbed a grenade towards one hiding in a room, causing his body to fly towards the opposite direction. Does this make me a sadist? (No seriously, this isn’t a rhetorical question)
Nice.
I could play this all day long! 🙂
Some GREAT suspense in some maps.
Gameplay goes on nearly forever! Its like a retro trip mostly back to the HL universe, a fun mod to play.
i am sorry, but I can’t give this more then a Avoid It!
it looks like HL1, and feels like that too. a lot of things that normally are made out of models are here made out of brushes, like lamps, furniture etc. and that does look rather silly in 2011. then, I HATE to have to play with teammates, I want to explore myself, and, kill each enemy myself. it is therefore not a error of the mapper/modder who made this that he did add team mates, but I do think it is a error that you can’t leave them behind, or kill them right at the start of a map. and then the clipping, a lot of times I couldn’t get to a place because of a invisible wall, and that is also something that is not done anymore in 2011.
should this be released 10 years ago, then it would probably have been great. but now,….
sorry,
leon
edit;
and Nate, no, I too loved to kill the scientists?
i also never did get all the tention about that one scene in that one call of duty game where you had to kill all the cevilions on that airport, loved that part!!
we are playing a video game, so who cares who is armed and who is not, and how we kill them. who bothers about this all, I don’t see the harm in doing so, lol!!!
Wow! This mod has to be a personal favourite.
It played fine on my PC and I had only a couple of bad moments caused by a glitchy ladder and a lack of health in the last, very dark section. The night vision goggle view was not the best and made the blackout sections a nightmare. I was shooting at sounds unless my fellow marines gave me an aiming point with their fire!
This mod reeks of nostalgia, especially those sections where I remembered starting the first Half Life as old Gordo! Memories………………..
This mod plays more like Opposing Force crossed with Half Life, with a dash of Blue Shift and a mean dose of humour!
Plenty of different pathways keep you on your toes, as do the many various enemies. Good to be killing the old enemy again as well as blowing away the security guys and those pesky, unarmed scientists! Well one of those lab-coated chaps did fire on me first!
I kind of liked the mission element of this mod as it added nice break points to the action.
The under-water crawl through the duct was novel but not be able to get out at the top of the ladder was not! I had to “noclip”.
I must say the “Terminator” styled sentries were not funny in a room full of laser-tripped charges! I saw red a few times!
Play the epic game and have fun remembering.
I failed to notice the differing graphic qualities. I guess I was too engrossed in the game. But I did find the soldiers ability to follow as I remembered it. I even found it funny having to goad them into following. Most importantly, though they always got out of my way!
A personal favourite! 10/10.
PS. Beware of the ending! I thought it stopped on a blank screen with the HUD still visible. But the sound of battle made me turn around to see lots of trouble and the ride home! A nice ending with only three shots left in my gun! Outstanding!
PPS. Did I notice two golden aliens beaming out in one of the ending sections?
well played this once and had a blast! went back to play again and find out all that I missed and …..am stuck, op4 . went up the steps took care of the rooms there , come back start down the stairs the section loads so I cant go back into the room I just left. head down the stairs back to the elevator and?
the first time through was in 2 sittings with a mad misses, fun fun fun. 4 mods like this a month isnt that much to ask for isit? 🙂
Hi,
I have problems in playing this mod. I read this thread and it seems that no one had my problems the same.
After about 20-30 minutes, the screen goes black and I am forced to reset.
With the other mods, this is not happening to me, what would it be?
My video card is a GeForce 9400 GT, can you give me some advice on how to set video parameters? thanks
I was really liking this mod up until map “op7a” when suddenly upon exiting the elevator I was greeted with a checkerboard sky box. I tried to play through thinking the author isn’t finished yet but upon looking at your screens, Mr. Phillip, I noticed this did not happen to you. I noticed what appeared that the author is attempting to use sky box’s from left 4 dead but I could be wrong. I’m simply assuming that the file names that I seem to be having trouble with “sky_l4d_c4m4_hdrrt” and “sky_l4d_c4m4_hdrbk” are Left 4 dead related. I’m no mapper, I just noted the error from the console.
Any ideas here? My other games appear to be fine. Also I should mention that I’m getting video corruption while loading the menu screen. I have updated my video drivers so that wasn’t it.
Strange. I don’t have Left 4 Dead, so it’s not as if the files are on my system. Sometimes some mods do seem to run differently on different systems. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.
Could you kindly load “op7a” and just let me know if it is working for you. (no checkerboard)
I suspect a Valve update is messing with me…
Thanks
Nevermind. HDR has to be enabled for op7a. The mod was working fine with HDR disabled until I got to that map.
toodles
Sorry, I have been pretty busy the last few days, but I did plan on doing it for you.
I enjoyed re-living some of the good ole half life days and I like long mods so I say play it now if you like those things. All the other quality type things don’t bother me too much as long as I have fun. For the most part I really liked it but I didn’t care too much for a few of the “missions”. Some of them were just plain dumb, IMO, as there was nothing to really do as far as strategy or solving things….just wander around wondering where to go while all the annoying squad and other marines shot up enemies all over the place and the next thing you know you are being told to report back to the transport, the mission is over. Then if you really wanted to you could keep exploring an empty map because everything is already dead. I did like the little turds that were in one of the bathroom toilets…haven’t seen that before!!!
Can someone please help. I’ve had this problem with some other mods as well and some tips would be appreciated. I’ve downloaded, extracted, and put all of the files into my sourcemods folder. After restarting Steam, Mesa- Fallback shows up in my library, but when I select it and click play it just starts up episode 2 and I can’t play the mod. The same thing happened when I tried to play Day Hard, and any help would be greatly appreciated!
When you extracted the download you were left with a folder called blackmesafallback or something like that.
Move this complete folder into your SourceMods folder found in SteamApps.
Go to your steam folder and check to see that you have Counter-Strike:source and that its status is “ready to play”. You need CSS to play this mod.
Hope this helps.
I don’t think that is correct. I don’t have CS:S installed on my system and the mod ran fine for me.
Yeah it says it’s an episode 2 mod, and this has been happening with all of my source mods now. It is really frustrating, and I haven’t figured out why it’s happening yet.
Played for 5 minutes – had a crowbar. Reloaded – got “A.I. Disabled”. Played again and no crowbar, so no fun not smashing those good ole HL1 crates. Cannot tell my men where to go with the “C” key. Outta control. Gave up.
I’ve played it today for the first time myself and I must say this is really a lovely mod..
Not just does it feature a very long play time it also makes a lot of fun. I believe Phillip said most of the things which count for this mod already.
He is certainly right with the texture quality difference or with the lightning at some points. But that’s ok since it is usually fine. The author had so many awesome ideas in this one it is really godlike to fight in 4 way battles soldiers vs blackmesa personell vs Aliens vs Blackops. Or storming a facility full with poor scientists and being a badass soldier like we know it of Half-Life1. epic.
I just wish the author would have put a bit more energy into the sound effects.. Most scientists, Barneys etc. were really quite (no regular hl1 talking – he didn’t use the possibilities for animation & talk sequences very often.). So were many areas you have your red flashing lights here and there but you don’t hear any alert sounds or computer sounds not always at least. I also disliked the fact that he used at some locations correct hl1 health stations but at other locations Combine chargers for example. Or that you get to see Rebel soldiers and police officers instead of barneys. He has scientist soldiers in it so I don’t understand why he used that and didn’t add the correct barneys in it as well. But it’s still ok however It wouldn’t be if there would be only rebels to encounter what is thankfully not the case. 🙂
Never the less playing in Blackmesa in source engine is always awesome. Playing as Security guard or Soldier even better. Therefore give it a try and revisit many areas Gordon Freeman, Corporal Shepard and Barney Calhoun visited already and expect many tense battles.
Till Operartion Black Mesa gets released & Black Mesa & Guard Duty this mod will be probably the best mod recreation of the Black Mesa Facility with source engine.
Other interesting mods which successfully recreated the Black Mesa feeling in Hl2 are those:
http://www.planetphillip.com/posts/provenance-half-life-2-ep2/
http://www.planetphillip.com/posts/shift-two-half-life/
Had this been a well tested and polished mod this would have definitely been a PF for me, but with the understanding that is was released “as is” I still enjoyed this a lot. It is a very long play mod with plenty of action. I’m considering keeping this for a replay or two as I’m not sure that I really finished certain levels, at times you were told what to do on certain levels such as return APC etc and other times I just advanced without knowing if I actually finished. I think I got lost quite a number of times and found the exit by mistake, probably my biggest complaint (knowing the route) or as stated by others some switches didn’t activate on the first try which got a little aggravating, but overall there were some good puzzle like scenarios to solve. IMO this is surely a worthwhile play.
Can someone please help, when I try to start mesa fallback from my games list it just gives me ” could not load library client “…. I altered steamappid to 218 which I thought was correct foe ep2 games but still get the same problem. I loaded the maps into Ep2 maps and launched from ingame but too many graphical probs. I’m not too hot on getting mods working that give probs but I really wanted to play this one, so any help would be appreciated.
Same thing, can’t play it at all, it was missing from the steam game list, but when I tweak it a bit, it says library client error, anybody knows how to fix this???
sooooo…my crosshair is a capital ‘Q’ …….whut
no , supposed to be a capital P ?
yeah, i just disabled the normal crosshair (the five dots), and played with that rather large, round one, that brackets the normal crosshair
one of the more intense (if buggier) mods i’ve ever played,
the cons:
—the beginning was boring, and difficult to follow, i probably spent 20 minutes+ on the section with the Jalopy alone, driving around, trying to figure out where the hell i was supposed to go, lol
–the contrast between ep2 and HL:S textures was rather jarring, i’m surprised you didn’t use more BM:S textures and resources
the pros:
—love the models used for the Zombine, the Scientists, the Zombies, the Marines, and the Spec Ops, Marines, though some were obviously straight from CS:S xD
—the models used for the MP5 and M4 were awesome, and i loved the firing sound for the M4,
(i’ll probably start using that mp5 model in every sourcmod i play, instead of the mp9 from Aberration)
final grade: C+
but 5 stars, because the action got intense towards the middle, and stayed that way throughout

Can you give a solution?
Do you have Episode Two installed and does it run correctly?
Have you followed the installation instruction correctly?
Do other Episode Two mods run correctly?
Make sure to get the hot fix used from moddb. I’m not sure whether Phillip added that fix here just yet but it fixed bugs that came with a certain steam update which made the mod unplayable…
If you haven’t done so then make sure to apply that patch then at least for me it worked. If you did apply the steam patch then I don’t know and see for any of the reasons Phillip mentioned.
Maps look pretty good. Game play? I was board by the 3rd map. I appreciate their effort but this deserved more polish.
