It’s short so it’s a 4/5 LOL If u actually wait 10 min. at the end the soldiers will shoot…
Even if it’s a quite short expeirence it’s well worth the download..avaliable at atomic gamers with ome really great architectural work in some places
Quake-oriented mapper Jed turns his talent towards singleplayer in a four-map Opposing Force unit, Mechanized Death: An Army of None. It stacks up surprisingly well.
Granted this map pack has no story, so those that were expecting one will undoubtedly be disappointed. But the lack of story really doesn’t matter or even detract from the experience much, because the level design here is well thought out. Progression is decidedly linear and a few places simplistic, but overall it’s obvious a lot of time and effort went into these maps, for there are lots of nice touches all around, ranging from the smallest details to the overhead and surrounding impressive architecture. There’s even a bit of rope-climbing involved, plus night vision’s wider range (compared to a mere flashlight) proves to be useful. Weapons availability disappoints, however; the only one provided from categories 6 & 7 is the shock roach.
Not that a whole lot of weaponry is needed anyway, but it sure wouldn’t have gone amiss because a few fights are unfairly in the favor of the enemy. A nice assortment of aliens serve to act as the main offense – a zombie grunt and the more evolved gonome, pit drones, and shock troopers (along with their shock roaches). A few Xen aliens make an appearance too, but of course the real combat starts when the Black Ops show up. Unfortunately there are only 3 of them in the entire unit, but the very last set-piece involving a Black Ops copter is truly tension-filled. Thus gameplay is perfectly acceptable (indeed, very good), but it could have been so much more.
Mechanized Death certainly could have been more ambitious, but it plays very well and is simply a blast to play for its Opposing Force elements (after all OpFor can pull off tricks Half-Life can’t). Make sure the OpFor disc is in the drive too…one track is played to good effect.

I had some fund with this, even though it’s not particularly detailed in many areas.
There was thought and planning behind this maps and I really like the conceptual grandness of some of the areas.
The battles are generally well planned and one or two a little challenging.
All in all this release has some redeeming features but lacks that sparkle that makes the truly great mods stand out from the rest.
Worth you time, though.

This is a decent 4-map Black Mesa pack. Jed had experience mapping for Quake 2 and his level design skills show. You don’t just take a linear path through the 4 maps; there is some (minor) backtracking and overall loopback where you’ll visit previous areas but from a new vantage.
Combat is a little on the light side, although you’ll face a variety of enemies including several Op4 ones. Design and architecture are highlights here, as the maps have a distinct Black Mesa feel to them and are generally nice to look at. Unfortunately there’s no story or real attempt to give any situational information to the player. It’s not necessary but could have really improved the experience. As it is, it’s nice to play though but feels a little flat. The big exception is the nifty outdoors setpiece, which will have you scrambling.
In all, this is a pretty short but enjoyable pack. It holds up well in the Opposing Force category but pales compared to what’s out there for Half-Life.

We start in an area similar to the Anomalous Materials entrance from Half-Life. Here I thought how awesome it would be if it was the same place, but in the past or in the future, but it’s not the same place, just a very similar one. It works great for creating Black Mesa atmosphere, though.
Next corridor is amazing: it’s a big observation area where we can look at ichtyosaurs swimming in the water through the glass.
The design is pleasing and it’s cool how it stuns us with awesome big areas. It also has good variety. The combat is fun, with nice variety and places to show off with the knife. Two Black Ops going down with the ropes – this is an excellent combat puzzle, which requires quick thinking. Upon reaching the surface, you have to destroy the helicopter, if you know how, or run from it, which doesn’t work every time you try.
At one point we have to climb a wire, but it’s possible to get stuck in the floor if you try to jump from the wire when you’re too close to it.
Biggest flaw of this mod is its weak ending, where author says that he tried to do some scripted things, but Half-Life has none of them, so he hates Half-Life. At this time, mods with great scripted cutscenes come to mind: Smart Decoy, Todesangst, Infinite Rift… And the realization how wrong the author is. But on the other hand, it’s easy to hate Half-Life for not having UnrealMatinee if you used it before.
Overall, this mod is worth playing, because its original design and atmosphere make it enjoyable.

I quite liked this even though the gameplay felt a bit empty and easy while story-wise there wasn’t much to talk about. However I very much liked the design of the maps with its vast impressive scale and architecture though as a result there are some ugly texturing and general lack of detailing in some areas.
The biggest flaw I had was the disappointing ending which felt like the author pretty much gave up and threw something together in the last minute. Apparently he tried making some sort of big scripted sequence but it didn’t turn out as he’d hoped. Admittedly, I’d preferred a simple fade to black which is generally very easy to set up.

Not bad at all, but let down by a poor ending!
For the most part this was fun, but the shock troopers are a real pain as they take a lot of ammo to take them out, so try not to fight them head on. I played the part on the other side of the broken bridge a few extra times with god mode on, it took an average of 55 rounds from the MP5 at point blank to kill the bar steward.
To be fair the game was fun and looked quite good, it appears to be well thought out as well. However it really should have ended when you are captured or continued with a way to escape the fish tank.

These maps basically just give us a nice small slice of Black Mesa gameplay. You will find nothing new or surprising but the modder does have a nice way of moving us back and forth between the maps to return to previous areas from another perspective.
I don’t really have much to say: the graphics are OK, the combat is OK, but it is lacking any particular substance. As others mentioned, the ending is silly as the author basically undermines his own work by complaining about Half-Life!

Not bad for the design, actually was a big facility in there, it was nice and the combat ok, tough the whole thing feels as a big experiment, and the ending is one u can’t even figure out…,
Overall I think iot worths the efforts between the maps i’ve play so far this is one so much better than many poor i’ve tried recently.

NOTE: Sorry for taking a bit of a break from the OFNF but School caught up with me for awhile.
The beginning of this mod tries to recreate Anomalous Materials to an extent but (like the rest of this mod), it just feels barren and lifeless. The mapping is really oversized for no good reason. The map also had some bad overstretched texturing.

The title is huge. Let’s start, mechanized death, has nothing to do with the mod, there’s nothing related to machanic death or it’s a mod full of battle between aliens and soldiers. Besides, there’s no auto-combat in the mod at all, all enemies are attacking you. And the army of none what does that mean. In first place where is the army because I don’t see any army and what does he mean of none? Is this have something to do with undeads or something, maybe that army has no soul or no life or maybe they are renegade soldiers or even they have no leader. i mean the title has absolutely no relation with the mod. It’s like playing the first and middle mission past the intro.
