You start at the top of a shaft, with no other way to go except down.
Clearly the only thing to do is find an escape route.
Work slowly and methodically, as your path is not always clear.

WOW, this is a very cool map. Don’t let the word “map” put you off though, as there is a LOT of gameplay here.
In fact, you need to go slowly and carefully, looking in every corner for the route. Sometimes it’s just really hard and I admit to noclipping once or twice. I wish I had spent more time looking though, as I am sure I would feel better about it.
Generally the gameplay is find the route and kill/avoid the zombies. It’s the locations that are the best part of this map rather than any gameplay action.
There is one part where you need to turn the power on that is pretty tricky, so look carefully for a “sign” on the wall, not far from where you get the power message.
The outside is gorgeous and I wish I spent more time there.
The lighting could have been a bit brighter and the location of the zombies are little more interesting but overall it’s a lot of fun.
Highly recommended for HL lovers.
I just finished the map….with a lot of noclipping. It’s very nice to look at, but terrible, terrible gameplay.
and what’s with all the crazy angle jumps ? I must’ve died like 20 times in that shaft at the beginning and trying to get off the ladder and and out the elevator doors….
and that room, with the 2 rail carts, how the heck to do get to the other side to the vent without cheating??
Use the boxes to climb on the first railcar, then up to the rails and jump over.
I don’t mind difficult jumps but one of them off a ladder was impossible so I had to noclip there. Some strange design choice near the end as well. Worth a play if you have nothing else to do but be prepared to use some cheats!
Sorry, but it was rubbish…as said, loads of “no clipping’….OMG…we really are scraping the barrel now….Portal doesn’t do it for me either…checking in less and less to your site…is it really all over ? Shame…ahh well, life moves on..
Just because you didn’t like a mod doesn’t mean this site is worth less as a whole. The great and old hl1 mods are still downloadable, and people actually play them more because of sites like these. Use constructive criticism so the developer knows what to improve.
Woooww, a HL1 mod into the P2 maps euphoria!!, this is a jewl, I must play it, downloading now!!
I agree with everyone else here that the stupid jumps were quite annoying and the map overall too dark. Nevertheless it was fun to be back once again in Black Mesa and I have to say, that Half-Life still holds some more magic for me than Half-Life 2 and its episodes…
I would like it more if it had more lighting. I could do the jumpings but I know that not everyone can. I hope the author makes more maps, but using HL textures this time.
Im giving it a play it now!, simply because I like to see HL1 maps and mods here on PP, appart from just staying to one direction I mean about mods related just almost exclusively to HL2 or Portal and, especially Portal2 kind of “fashion trend” that now mod gamers, and gaming websites are now into, I know that HL1 is almost prehistoric game but is a nice one and this map, I felt it as a small-medium mod, into one map!, kind of migga’s maps feeling, this was ok, I just loved the simply fact on being in BM again killing zombies, xen enemmys and trying to get the hell outta there!, this map is very in the style of DOPUSK31 mod the textures are wierd, and the author gave us some good time to figure out how to escape, so that’s ok, but it’s a little bit hard because of the difficult jumps.
Aside from that i’d love to see more combat mods for both HL1 and HL2, I know that Portal2 is great and fills the PP criteria for expose the maps and the mods for it, but please, and is just a kindly request from a gamer, I hope that showing HL mods and maps are not just forgoten, and put appart or in a second or third place just because P2 and its maps are the novelty, I just feel is not fair for some other gamers who want to see more combat maps and mods, and not only pure puzzeling of Portal style, I am saying this with deep respect to the site, I hope new combat mods are not just set appart, now im trying a few of them like Zombie escape for HL2, and recently I played a good mod with simply but great combat called “Lader”, and well I haven’t see those, published here on PP yet, anyway PP is great and im sure that I have still not played some great things available on this wonderful website, so im going to look for them!
It’s not exactly Black Mesa, but very close I think. Therefore it takes only “May Be?”.
This map looks like FEAR sometimes(especially, flashbacks) and like prison Nova Prospect another time. It’s too dark and terrible in some places . But I agree – “this is a very cool map”. I finished the map without noclipping and died only once or twice in that shaft at the beginning and trying to get off the ladder and out the elevator doors though I am not a champion in jumps. Good work but it’s not the true Half-Life.
The action might not be as entertaining as you would expect for a single map, because you’re mainly facing zombies, but I’m highly impressed, the author was able to create such a huge area in just one map.
Technically (I’m quite familiar with GldSource-mapping) it’s really an awesome piece of work:
The huge area (I wonder how crowded it looks in Hammer, let alone the amount of time to compile it), great architecture, a very professional and impressively detailed mapping-style with nice effects here and there; it’s a rare sight for GldSource these days.
Map compile 14 minutes. Screenshot from hammer:

Thanks to everyone!
Pros:
Great custom textures.
Interesting layouts.
Good use of sound effects.
Hard but do-able jumps
Cons:
Confusing layouts.
Way easy to either confuse the zombie’s AI or to dodge them.
Notes: DON’t PLAY THIS ON HARD. The ending area was a bitch(pardon me) cause of the Vorts and Grunts.
Overall: Good solid HL1 map. Interesting enough to finish but some areas get confusing. I loved the textures. Custom textures really worked and if you did have any normal HL1 textures I didn’t see them.
I’m unimpressed by the whole of this map/set, and I can’t say that I enjoyed playing it through. There were plenty of times when I pretty much gave up and shut it down, in frustration. However, knowing that I’d rather be able to review it properly here, I stuck it out and finished even though I had to pretty much cheat through two thirds of it.
The mapping is… meh. It doesn’t flow very well, it’s not completely bad it’s just not directed in any way to give the player any kind of clue where to go. The maps *themselves* are fine, but the flow through them is very poor.
The use of enemies is a bit bare through most, but then suddenly plenty of them? I’d prefer a more steady stream or a more reasonable amount of ammo available if every enemy is going to be gathered down at the one section.
Not lit very well, though that isn’t really an issue much for me, but it’s always sad to play new maps that you can’t actually SEE.
The issues with noclipping around should never have occurred. Plain and simple, the maps needed more testing and more flow to be established. Where some puzzle elements were outright impossible to find, others seemed so difficult that I gave up. I think I wound up going backwards through at least one section, emerging from a spot that I guess I was supposed to enter earlier, but hadn’t been able to find due to not being able to climb properly.
The feeling of going in circles was too strong, I don’t mind a little backtracking here and there, but the place felt as though I *needed* to view it from the outside in order to understand where to go.
The idea behind the map/set was okay, overall I wouldn’t say don’t play it – but it’s one that if you DO play, remember your console commands and have a tremendous amount of patience with it; if you’re not patient don’t bother with this.
Official story plot from the author:
You come to consciousness in some room, you can not remember how you got here, and most importantly you also can’t remember who you are. But one thing is clear to you: You need to get as quickly as possible out of here.
Not the best story plot but it is ok for a single map.
Wow played this today for the first time. I didn’t expect much of it as it is just a single map. But that map has it in it… It’s using many hl2 textures along with some enhanced hl textures or self made textures not sure. The quality of the map was really nice in fact so were the sound ambiences.
I think the monster placement could have been a bit better but that’s ok. It’s true there are several tricky jumping scenes but guys c’mon after over 10 years of hl1 no one should really have any problems with that anymore!
Never the less an excellent map. Ammo never was a problem in it and batteries were also enough around to fight the Agrunts + Alienslaves so it was pretty much balanced.
Give it a shot it’s definitely going for a different approach than the usual maps & mods out there.
The beginning in the shaft unleashed a great atmosphere in me, a few mins later I was simply lost as I had the crowbar but couldn’t find a way to go further so I had to noclip-explore a bit
(as soon as I find the way I turn it off again and keep playing normally withouts cheats)
The jumps needed here are pretty tricky and sometimes the flashbacks or some scary sound inflicted goosebumps lol —> great!
Nonetheless, if you’re not a Quake III Arena trickjumper 😉 this map’s nothing for you.
Another contra is: way too less enemies (mostly zombies) and too much ammo (I always use crowbar to kill zombies, saving ammo :P)
Conclusions
Pro’s:
-atmoshpere
-graphic (I like the ending at the surface, but that’s the complete opposite compared until there, meaning too light and too dark at first, mostly grey in grey, yawn!)
-ammo! (unless you don’t kill with crowbar)
-starting shaft (I like the idea of moving up and down an elevator shaft that way)
-grunts, and there are no grenades or satchels 😛
Con’s:
-lightning
-only 3 weapons and 4 enemy types
-jumping, if you can’t do those tricky duckjumps – don’t download this mod
-playability, meaning once you played it, there’s nothing left for replaying it
5* for the mapping, but 2* for the gameplay and lighting. Only for those, who really like playing in darkness. Also it’s not very fun to fight against some agrunts simultaneously with using of uneffective weapons. Play it very-very later, lol.
What a nice little map!
Beautiful textures, good atmosphere (reminding me of F.E.A.R.) and a slower paced gameplay, with emphasis on find the route/exploration instead of fighting, make this a very enjoyable mod, which also has exactly the right length.
Regarding those few tricky jumping scenes, I can only repeat what 23-down already said: After over 15 years of HL1 no one should really have any problems with that anymore. To make this clear: There are no impossible jumps and there’s no noclipping needed to play this mod. I am not a champion in jumps, too, and had to try a few jumps four or five times, but that’s it. I guess in a game with quicksaves, where a failed jump doesn’t cost you more than a few seconds, that’s completely acceptable.
People should stop using god mode and noclip (and complaining and ranting afterwards) and should instead start learning how to play some game.
Also I don’t know what Qwertyus is considering a “fight against some agrunts simultaneously with using of uneffective weapons”. In which way is a shotgun with plenty of ammo uneffective against agrunts?
If you generally like this kind of gameplay, I’d strongly recommend to take a look at this beauty.
The only slightly negative thing I can think of is the ending. Sometimes people really should consider to give their mod some more conventional ending, instead of trying to come up with something particularly odd, mysterious or funny.
Btw, this mod’s title is “Lost-World”, not “Lost World”.

Wow, this was really pleasant to play through.
This is the classic Escape-From-BM scenario all over again, but done in a great way. The atmosphere is great, the combat is pretty fun (but easy), and the level design is mostly good. Also, there are a lot of props and entities ported from HL2, and they look really good. The textures are great too, however I think that some of the new ones are from HL2 too.
However, this map isn’t perfect. First of all, the installation is a pain in the ass. I’m not a huge fan of the whole “copy the whole valve folder and don’t worry about overwriting” thing. It just gets on my nerves. Apart from that though, there are a lot of tricky crouch-jumps, so if you’re not familiar with them, then you won’t have a great time with this map.
Overall, you should definitely play this mod. If you get past the tricky jumps and the annoying installation process, then you’ll probably like this a lot.
