Lost Industry

for Half-Life 2: Episode Two

2nd August 2018

Author’s Description: “Far East from City 14, in a combine weapon factory…

Metrocops and Combine soldiers are securing this place, making sure everything is safe and nothing goes wrong.

Rebel activity is rare, thanks to the factory’s defense force. The air is heavy and it’s cold, every part of this facility feels unsafe, it’s not made for a man like yourself.

The factory noises never stop, there is no silence. Rumors say that the Combine enslaving citizens and bringing them here where they are treating them within inhuman conditions.

It’s time to put an end to this, but be aware the AirEx facility is not far from your current position, make sure you breath air in just as many as you need, and don’t stick around for too long.

Author’s Note

Hi everyone!
Thanks for checking out my map, I wanted to create a factory themed map, in my opinion it turned out pretty well. This map started as a test map where I just build a bunch of indoor stuff, but in midway of development I was thinking I should make a little psychological horror map what takes place in a weapon factory.

I’d appreciate if you could download this and try it out for yourself and I’m looking forward to recieve any fair ratings and feedback. 🙂 Until next time, farewell!

  1. Phillip says Play It!

If you watch my blind playthrough, I seem to do nothing but complain, so it might come as a shock to see that I recommend you PLAY IT!

It certainly has its flaws, mostly to do with enemy placement, but the author show promise and as long as he or she starts to understand how to place enemies, I am sure Lost Industry 2 will be much better.

Some areas seem to be really well-lit and the whole map felt “real”, so those can be checked off the list of tasks.

All in all, a fairly fun map that looks better than it plays.

  2. Play It Now!

This was a great map! Even though it’s not perfect, I had a lot of fun with this map and that’s really important to me. The mapping was great and the layout definitely reminded me of an abandoned facility. The combat was well done too, with the right amount of enemies showing up at once, however, I expected to see more zombies/headcrabs in this kind of map. Oh well.

Overall, this is a map from 50SDoS that’s definitely worth your time! This has a lot of potential and I’d love to see what the mapper can do with its sequel!

NOTE: The message you see when the map is ending translates to to be continued in hexadecimal.

  3. Play It Now!

Very fun and interesting map! Short but nicely done. It’s not perfect or well-detailed, but it got a nice HL2 touch on it. This author has good skills with indoors ambiance but could use some improvements here and there. Overall, a really nice and enjoyable map to play for a little bit.

    Play It Now!

One of the best ones in the 50 so far. I was really getting in to it when it was over. A lot of them I was glad it was over, but this one I was sad it was over.

It had good layout and some nice little shoot’em ups. The only real cons are it was too short and the combines needed tweaking.

Now I’m going to search and see if there are anymore by this mapper.

  5. Maybe?

This wasn’t a bad little map, short and sweet even though there wasn’t a great deal of variety in it. The combat was OK throughout although I wasn’t a fan of being chipped away at by a combine soldier completely shrouded in fog. Also, there do not appear to be any autosaves, at least up until the first outdoor section. I landed on a wooden plank which fell from its support and I died, only to have to start from the beginning, so I had to knock this rating down a level.

Well this map seems like a massive mashup of ideas that the author had, and it feels very unfocused as a result. You just end up going through all kinds of different areas in the span of a few minutes. None of it was bad, it was just kind of things scrambled together if that makes sense.

There is some fun to be had here. The highlight was definitely the Combine soldier battle, and then the mounted gun segment just afterward. It’s not the best map out there and may be worth your time.

  7. Play It Later

Yeah, I agree with others here. This is a mishmash of ideas jumbled together but it oddly works quite well. I’d have like more zombies knocking about, and better lighting too as it was annoying at times. I loved the outdoor parts which may have looked crud but I thought this was a nice part. The only bit I didn’t like was the door locking and then various soldiers invading into such a tiny room. Why would a door shut and lock by itself anyhow?

Anyhow, this is a rough around the edges map that’s fun to play!!

  8. Play It Now!

It is a really good map very believable story behind this map and ambience is great!
Gameplay was ok. I liked the begining becouse I could stealthly take down two metrocops, the G-man appearance was well done with slower movement. The only thing that was disappointing is the ending where the whole squad of smg soldiers just rushed throw and died one by one hopelessly.
    I give it 5/5

  9. Play It Later

Not too bad. Interested to see how it progresses. Had enough to keep me involved and interested in more.

    Play It Later

OK so, that was quick! Overall a really short map, but what I liked about it, is that the industrial feeling of the map is absolutely there. Especially in the last section of the map.

Combat, despite it, took place in very close indoors areas, was dynamic and didn’t felt predictable as in many other very small maps.

All in all, this was a quick, but fun shorty map to play. Perfect to Play it Later anytime.

  11. Play It Later

Lost Industry was a fun mod to play.
The map looks good that’s for sure. Combat not so much. There are 2 main combat parts: at the beginning and at the end. At the beginning it is fine, but at the end it is just waiting outside a room for soldiers to walk in so you can shoot them with your shotgun.
There is a horror-type part in the map which feels very random because such a part never reappears. After that there is an outside area which was quite annoying because there was a soldier on a platform further than 100 metres away from you which somehow hits 80% of all his bullets.
The ending left me a bit unsatisfied. You walk into a hall, some numbers appear on your screen and that’s the end.

    After Decompiling

(I decompile maps to see if they are professionally done and to learn from them)
The creator of the map knows what he/she is doing. Professionally done optimization and player clipping.

  12. Play It Now!

Not bad short atmospheric map with good mapping

  13. Play It Later

It’s okay and I agree with Phil’s comments that the author shows some promise.

The layout of the map is excellent. Just enough locked doors to send you the right way without developing the ‘endless corridor’ feel. Good use of classic Half Life tricks like box stacking and navigation-under-pressure. Lighting and overall mood are fantastic.

Enemy placement is a disappointment. There are only two real encounters and they both end up as a zergling rush (the first one quite heavy on the shotgunners) funnelled into a tight space.

If the next one improves on waypointing and spawn locations, my rating would definetley jump up a notch. In any event, it’s a great start.

    Looks ok. Plays good.

  16. Maybe?

well well there were some good ideas and correct design but sort of a mash up of it
so what it gave was plesant experience but could have been beter construct,
I’ve mixed between maybe and play it later but for the gaming time I choose maybe 🙂

  17. Maybe?

Very short. It’s not bad tho but playthough here
