A collection of maps from various sources.
There are over 35 maps included, most with combat.
- Title: Library of Leaks Beta
- File Name: hl2-sp-library-of-leak-maps.7z
- Size : 497Mb
- Author: Josh Zemlinsky
- Date Released: 01 May 2010 (approx date)
The file is no longer available.
It has been removed at the request of the Missing Information Team. Their work on files that were included in this release were used without prior permission. I discussed the situation with them but unfortunately we were unable to reach an agreement.
There is a small possibility that this mod will be available in the future as the 1.5.2 release of Missing Information may contain the ability to release “add-ons” that use the content. I hope that something can be arranged.
I apologize for posting this when you can’t play it, but I am keeping visible for the sake of completeness.
- Copy the library_of_leak_maps folder into your SourceMods folder.
- Restart or start Steam.
- Library of leaks should now be listed in your Library tab.

WOW, what a collection. Definitely some great maps in here.
Allow me to apologise for not having mini-reviews of each chapter but I simply forgot to start doing it and then just couldn’t face checking the maps I had played.
I would also like to apologise for not including any panoramic images. I just didn’t have time. Same for a gameplay teaser video.
There are a few explore only maps but a lot are worth your time. I really enjoyed being able to walk around some maps and see what HL2 looked like before the leaks.
The Vertigo maps were great, as was the fabrication one (no action in that though).
All in all, worth playing over a few sittings if you are interested in HL2 history.
Hey, can you put it up on PlanetPhillip? My router blocks FileFront because of it’s low security score (just found that out).
Thanks, Stalk
Not for a while. At 500Mb it would hog my concurrent users, sorry. Try ModDB, although it’s on two MegaUpload files.
@modplay and everybody else who needs to use MegaUploads.
The easiest answer is to allow your security to permit Filefront. Failing that:
I used the MegaUploads. You must download both files – takes ages. Both downloads total about 3/4 of a Gig
I ended up with a complete mess which took ages to clean up.
What worked for me:
1. Create a dummy folder in your user name in Steam.
2. Extract both the downloads into the dummy folder.
2. In your SourceMods folder create the folder
library of leak maps Beta
3. From both downloads in the dummy folder move all the top level sub-folders and all the files in to the ‘library of leak maps Beta” folder.
DO NOT move the top level folder of the extracted downloads – leave “as is’.
Restart Steam and Jasper’s your uncle.
I and others here will recognise some of these ‘leaked” maps especially those that have been hi-jacked by others into their particularly awful maps.
As Phillip says, some might like to explore from a History of Valve/HL2 point of view. As an acadaemic exercise rather than for the visuals or gasmeplay, if and when present
To cut to the quick and putting aside putting aside the bad and the ugly, Chapters 7, 12. 15, 16, 18, and 20 are definitely worth playing and I do not remember any maps like these, leaks or otherwise.
All the “Chapters” are open so you do not have to play in sequence or at all.
In particular I commend Chapters 12 and 16 as they are stand alone mods in their own right and very good indeed.
But
Beware edges, long drops kill
Phillip and Jasper have said pretty much all there is to say regarding the collection, but if I’d have known more about what was included I probably would not have downloaded it. At nearly half a gig and with only a couple maps with any gameplay I’d have preferred to just have the playable maps.
Vertigo is by far my favourite of the pack and would of given it a play it now had it been on its own. However due to the size of the collection and some of the dross included, I can’t justify more than a collective maybe.
fascinating….and where did you find all these maps then ? All I can find to play is ‘start a new game” or 2 saves…the new game goes nowhere…looks nice though…am I missing something ?
Via the New game menu. There should be approximately 24 new chapters. If you can’t see them try deleting the folder from the sourcemods folder and reinstalling.
I won’t leave a recommendation image as I didn’t load all the maps. I played some but lost interest very quickly. The quality, for the most part, is barely average. With so many unplayed HL2 maps on my hd I can’t be bothered to wade through substandard fare looking for something halfway decent.
That’s a shame MikeS
There are a couple of chapters very worthy of playing and are mods (not just maps) in ther own right
Chapter 16 I would give a PIL but I did have to noclip through a door to an elevator. No bugs other than that.
Chapter 12 would be a PIN for me.
If you haven’t already deleted, They are worth a whirl, honest.
#12 Vertigo was my favorite! all in all, I’de say PIL
You really need to optimize and fix the bugs in your maps, they look horrible to be honest.
you may want to try playing it again, but this time save the TempCanals (chapter 4) and the underground series (chapter 10) for last. When I played those chapters, I ended up with a horrible fullbright effect and it stayed even when switching to a different chapter. When I restarted the game and tried any of the other chapters, they all looked significantly better. Vertigo is DEFINITELY worth giving this mod a second chance. I’ve only gotten to chapter 16 or so, but I’ll keep an eye out for any other chapters that cause me problems.
Well dude, the title of this little package is called Library of Leaks BETA. Since it has BETA in it, there ARE going to be bugs in it. This is NOT a polished mod, rather, it is a collection of Beta content from HL2. Enjoy it for what is, not for what you want.
There is but one reason that I am giving it a personal favorite: I am utterly fascinated by what was used to show off HL2’s engine before it became the HL2 we know today. This mappack contains maps used in the E3 convention. It was what was seen before the game was even released. To me, it is quite awesome to be able to experience it.
Yes, some of the maps are buggy, but, the name of the map pack is BETA, thus, not all the bugs are gone. However, I refuse to let that alter my perception of it. Take it for what is, not for what you want it to be.
I would recommend to everyone to play this.
ok, but how DO you load the different maps ?
Anon – Go into NEW GAME and all the maps are listed. When you finish one map, go back into NEW GAME and select the next one in the series.
This is packaged as a mod, so all ya gotta do is put it in Sourcemods and restart Steam. From Steam, just launch Library of Leaks Beta. Once there, simply select New Game and launch one of the thirty-plus chapters.
I’d recommend “easy” for this, to be honest.
That’s all ya gotta do in order to run this. ;P
On chapter 16 (wasteland depot) did anybody get any further than the bottom warehouse-like area, where the train is? I’m wondering if making it to the train is considered the end (although it’s full of supplies that would indicate more to come). On the level above that, there was a button that said something about now being able to turn off the security system. Did anybody find out if that did anything or what needed to be done after that?
Yes, actually. There was another area that you enter where you fight a couple of normal combine and a elite. It’s an area with a lot of switches, but there’s only one usable one and its at the back. Its a tad confusing, and I honestly found that one out by fumbling around. 😛
Thanks Cyo. Very helpful.
My thanks too Cyo. I’ll be more thorough on the next play.
Yes, there is more, ebsiman.
I pressed the switch and then looked to see if I could find another to switch.
I hunted everywhere including noclipping hither and yon to no avail.
Gave up.
Back to the top, where you started. You’ll see the door.
Quick save. Noclip through it carefully and you are now in a lift. Switch off noclip pretty smartly. Wait for the lift to rise.
If you do not know how to noclip:
Open the developer console – Phillip’s “How to…” at the top of the page if you need it.
sv_cheats 1 ENTER
noclip ENTER
Resume game
noclip is a toggle so just type it again & Enter to switch it off
That’s really BS that the MI team took it down, the community should be able to play some beta stuff without fixing textures and compiling for hours, that’s just a really lame move in my opinion…
Try and look at it from their point of view. Another team takes your work (and I’m not talking about the beta content that was converted to work with the retail engine) and uses it without permission. How would you feel?
well, how did we get a hold of these then? now that you put it like that…
What a pity it’s been removed. I have played the half dozen recommended to me and thought they were very good. Especially the one with Phillip’s computer from one of his 404 images and the other where you have to fight your way down a tall building hit by a plane.
If it, or any part of it, comes back it’s quite good and I think it very worthy.
Well it would be great to play this. Found it on moddb but you can’t get there either. That just sends you to Mega and it isn’t there either!.. Anyone know where it CAN be found?
Found it here: Half-Life 2 Missing Information v1.4 Mod
[PlanetPhillip Note – That’s a completely different mod and I have removed the link Javilin posted because it’s wrong.]
This is a shame, I remember I saw this when the download was available yet, but silly me, I didn’t download it!! i’d like 2 ask phillip if ther’s a chance to download this from another site, or if the Missing info maps can be removed, in order to play the rest, because this is a daimond!; oh god I want to play this so bad!!!!!!!
make a link
Any links now?
Well, it seems that this collection can still be downloaded here:
