Left for Dead in Ravenholm is a two-level Campaign for Half-Life 2 that recreates gameplay from Left 4 Dead within the Half-Life 2 universe. Joined by Alyx, Barney, and Father Grigori, you must journey through the Zombie-invested town of Ravenholm in search of rescue. Together, you fight your way through a residential area in the first level, “The Neighborhood”. Then, you fight off Zombies in the town square while waiting to be rescued in the second level, “Town Square Finale”. Both levels feature a scripted version of the “Director” system found in Left 4 Dead, which constantly evaluates the Survivors and dynamically adjusts the difficulty and alters the experience accordingly.
The “Town Square Finale” map mentioned in the author”s notes above has not yet been released.

Have to admit I enjoyed this. Generally having a squad in HL2 mods is a pain in the headcrab, but having the main characters was different. I kinda felt that they could die, but saw that as a positive rather than a negative.
If this were a longer mod I might have just left them to fit it out but I wanted to get involved, although I suspect I was less helpful than I could have been.
The level itself felt large due to the twisting and turning, but it was probably quite small. There was some nicely scripted sequences which definitely help. It it had been just a run and gun then I doubt it would have been so enjoyable.
Ravenholm is perfect for this sort of thing and I could easily believe that a whole mod like this could be popular.
That said, I doubt I would continue to enjoy it.
For a short level it’s well built and fun to play.
Hello there. What’s happened to the download link part? Or am I being blind! lol
Thanks, Steve
I downloaded this mod, and after the game loaded I started walking and game just crashed, but I couldn’t see the error message. Anyone can help me, please ? Thankyou very much.
There’s little we can do without the error message. Just to clarify, you are using it in Episode Two, right? Does it crash in exactly the same place? If so, please describe where.
Thankyou for answering. Yes im using Episode Two and right after loading, when I look to the Crossbow weapon to pick it up, game crashes with some error like memory could not be read.
Okay, I suppose the only thing you could try is copying it into another game’s map folder and running it from that game and see what happens.
Does anybody else have any suggestions?
I tried playing the map with Episode One but I couldnt even load map.
I thought it was fun. I agree with Phillip, though. If it was much longer I wouldn’t continue to enjoy it.
I don’t think I was actually able to “officially” end the level. From the screen shots I see a message “close the doors once everybody is in”. Throughout the level, what’s-his-name with the shot gun was very stubborn about following. Once we made it to the safe house he was a block away standing by a dumpster and wouldn’t move. I couldn’t get the message without him, I think. When I closed the doors without him the game didn’t end. So, I went out and killed the SOB, went back and closed the doors with the other two inside and still no ending. Does the level actually end (fade out or something) when you get everyone in and close the doors?
Now THAT was fun. Don’t expect anything more than hundreds of zombie blasting, but with a small dream team squad with you.
It isn’t so long, and give you a funny moment WITHOUT having another “survival” map… This is not an infinite zombie spawning, hopefully.
Really, this was a very fun map. I loved it a lot. This is a good inspiration to L4D. You can hurt your allies, fastzombies endlessly come, and the generator starting up part was a good part for a horde.
I enjoyed this a lot and recommend you people reading should play it!
Amazing. Just. Amazing.
I’m not keen on this.
I found the environment to be blockish and unimaginitive.
If you like killing a multitude of Zombies and Headcrabs (only) while nursing your support team then this is the mod for you.
While Barney and Alyx mucked in, Father Grigori was a pain and I just left him.
I did not look for mapping faults as I quickly lost enthusiasm but stumbled across 2 places where you can leave the map (after the generator opens the gate).
I had to reload to rejoin the map. A bit of a pain as my last save was just before a Fast Zombie was going for a nibble at the time.
I suspect the main point of the map is the “Director” system..
To me, this is about the only reason to play this.
didn’t enjoy it that much, run shoot kill, that’s about all.
Well, I got through it (cheating in God mode, wouldn’t have stood a chance otherwise) and though I lost all my buddies, I got in and closed the door ok. It was a bit full on for me, I suppose I like puzzzles with just moderate combat…why is it that when you are just trying to explore or check the place out that there’s always some git trying to beat yer brains in…anyway, as said, it was fun for 5 mins…but I do like a bit of a story line…and oh yeah…whatever did happen to the suggested story line mod about a ship, forget it’s name now ? That looked promising, but it seems to have died a death now…you know, the one mentioned in HL2…I forget…
For me this would have been more fun if I also had the gravity gun with some saw blades lying around. You know, like Ravenholm. The map layout was fun, but the actual gameplay seemed lacking in excitement. Maybe because it didn’t seem to matter if I fought aggressively or not. It was a good attempt at creating a L4D scenario in Half Life but more of the same would become boring.
Can’t load map. Map fill does not exist error. Put map in Maps dir. Also tried to put it in HL2 ep2 dir, still won’t load. Help.
I enjoyed this mod, it was fairly sucessful in putting the feel of Left 4 Dead into the Half-Life universe, but there is only so much you can do with the headcrab zombies. They move slowly, while nearly every zombie in L4D moves quickly. I have very few complaints about it, but I think the map could have used more detail. It seemed a bit too “clean.” It also would have been nice to have more ammo for more weapons. I had to use the magnum most of the time. (maybe I’m just unobservant) But those are only minor issues.
If you like L4D, you may like this, just don’t expect any tense moments. It was a pretty good map and I would play the next one. It won’t hurt to try it.
I enjoyed this little map, and will like to see the second one at some point, but I don’t think it’s terribly urgent to play. Given that it was limited to the existing zombie types in HL2, I think it did pretty well. I loved the group of characters, and their occasional banter is fun to hear out of the HL2 context – because you hardly ever get to hear some of those things in the game itself.
That said, the map was a little too confined. I would like to have the option to explore a bit, or perhaps to just have zombies waiting in almost every house or spot. Musical cues would also be nice – if they were there I didn’t hear any, and that’s a key feature of the L4d game.
Also, I didn’t care for the random starting weaponry. I had to restart because my alt-tab seems to crash source these days (I guess if I don’t pause the game first). And I was hoping to get the crossbow back, since that is what I first encountered beyond the pistol. But no, I got a magnum – don’t get me wrong, I love the magnum. But not enough ammo and not accurate enough for distance… I wanted my crossbow.
The final area of the safehouse was kind of frustrating to me. I’d already run out of all possible ammo, before we even could get to the doors. Therefore, everyone died (me a couple times), since all I had left was the crowbar. And even when I got into the room, for whatever reason, none of the weapons were showing up in my number keys.
So basically, it seems a bit unfinished and in need of “more”. More stuff to explore, more places to have zombies jump out of, more scripting for music and event timing, and more playtesting to make sure it all works smoothly.
But definitely worth downloading and playing, if anything just to get a little taste of a different kind of mod than is typical for HL2.
Yeah do you know the word optimization? I think creator of this map does not.
I didn’t enjoy this mod very much (and this from a ravening L4D fan). I was a bit surprised to see that the map was 50 MB for only 10-15 minutes of gameplay – that’s not very good level design economy. One of L4D’s great features is the ability to explore every nook and cranny of each level. Here, all but two of the doors I came across were locked. Father Grigori was irritating, alternating between running ahead and refusing to move. He seemed to know his own way through the level. Finally, when I reached the end, I couldn’t get Grigori into the “saferoom,” so I didn’t get a proper ending.
All in all, it was a good idea, and, as Phillip says, Ravenholm is the perfect place for this sort of action. I think it needed better execution to be more enjoyable, though.
Actually pretty good I love the concept idea, of a L4D-Ravenholm, so great and the coop concept feels so good, against those hrodes of zombies, the only thing I feel bad about this mod, is that the end hasn’t been released, and I have the sensation that is just too short, because I wanted more action!!, i’d love to recommend the author of this mod to make it just longer and complete with the propper steam launcher, and maybe he could release this from the begining and make it just more exciting I enjoyed playing this map that’s why is a play it now instead of a play it latter, it won’t take you more than 25min to complete maybe less time!
Quite random… but very interesting!! Having all your favorite characters together completely changes the “fun” in a game… well, it really depends. 😛
To better improve this, add more levels, and finally, a co-op mode. Sure I can just play L4D, but heck, headcrab zombies re somewhat “different”. LoL…
Most of this page has disappeared.
My advice is, aim for the heads.

I love this map. It’s always nice to fight side by side with Alyx, Barney und Father Grigory. Father Grigory spellings, for example
in german
in english
are soooo funny. Ok, maybe he is a religious fanatic, but… 😀
A bit more ammo would be nice and it is not so good, that my pals can by hurt by friendly fire, but in real life friendly fire also kills the comrade. Unfortunately the map is too short. My wishes: A longer version (mod), a bit more ammo and a bit more zombies, but less fast zombies. 🙂

I really enjoyed everything about this map right up until the safe room part. I thought the action until then, was well balanced and my team worked well. We eventually made it into an ‘ammo store’ but I strangely couldn’t pick up any decent weapons or most of the ammo. Plus my team was dead by this point anyhow and I’d lost interest by this time… It was only then I realised I should have simply shut the door to finish because this WAS the safe room! lol
Overall, this wasn’t too bad and I personally enjoy the input from Father Grigory because he’s such a fun character. †I’d have liked more talk from the others though and I also thought the team worked quite well – even if the other two seemed to lag behind a little too much. Not a bad map but it could have been great with more thought to the design. Visually, a little overly dark imho and I’d have liked more ambient lighting here and there to pep it up a bit.
Good map this, and I’m a big L4D fan. It’ll never be as good as the real thing but it was a nice try.
I have never played L4D, but I think this is a great map. It’s well balanced and I made it through without loosing any of my companions.
Usage of space and world brushes: 8/10
I definitely felt like I was in Ravenholm. I felt like I was weaving through the neighborhoods of Ravenholm rather than a mining town, which was a unique experience. The maps were nice and tight, but still had a lot of breathing rooms to fight.
Visuals 7/10
Not eye pleasing, but far from the worst I’ve ever seen. Lighting is great in most spots. Could use some polishing, but a solid start.
Gameplay: 7/10
Gameplay is solid. I felt like I was part of a ragtag squad that was trying to get to the next checkpoint. It could be a bit smoother with zombines near the end to increase the difficulty linearly rather than randomly, but over all it was a very pleasant experience.
Final Score: 22/30 – 73%
Final Comments: It’s a short map for a quick play through, but well worth the 10 minutes.

Good mod apparently but there is one problem. L4D gameplay is not designed for this and vice versa. In L4D, you really need tons of ammo to kill a horde of zombies. But here, at least it does the same thing but it’s not easy to kill a zombie that takes amount of hits. Should you have a gravity gun, everything would be easy. Losing your teammate is not a big deal anyways just like in L4D.
