A great little map with strong atmosphere and good gameplay, amazing for only 6 MB size!

    1. Glad you enjoyed, thanks for playing!

    A map for Game Players!

I loved this map, thank you for doing it. The main reason is the atmosphere and graphics that perfectly suited the Havana theme. Also the carefully thought out layout, with multiple areas not immediately obvious. It takes thinking to accomplish the objectives. Gameplay was good as well.

    Definitely Play It Now!

I quite liked this, short and sweet, a bit too short perhaps and I’d love to see it expanded, but it is what it is, perhaps another time. Maybe a few classic Amercan cars lying about (that oddly still seem to work and someone can afford the fuel to run)…a smouldering cigar abandoned in an ash tray, a half consumed Cuba Libra maybe…whatever, plenty of scope without making it too cliche.

So yeah, nice one..I enjoyed it but wished there was more.

    I enjoyed this one greatly!
Lovely Level Design, both visually and layout wise.
It really did nail this Overrun Cuba vibe.

Maybe the rooftop sequence could have done with a little more, but its def up there with General Half life2,

    Well done,
Greatly appreciated u creating and sharing this!

This is a well designed map. Quality over quantity here. It’s not too short, nor is it too long. I only died once to a mistimed RPG shot.

I’m not too familiar with the Cuban theme, but it was a nice change of pace from European HL2 maps.

    Well done Coralilac!

Fun short map based on La habana, Cuba. The map is good detailed and the progression is really good, worth playing IMO.

I managed to found an easter egg but i dont know what the button does 😛

    1. Maybe you have to go back, and look for a similar symbol near the start of the map? 😉

I liked this map. Textures and atmosphere were great. Nice action and a few surprises. Ending was a little abrupt. Overall, this was enjoyable map. I hope the other does more work.

Everything is connected in this map and I liked it. At first many areas are locked – but blocking fields are turned off by the player, as he progresses. Besides: this map rewards careful exploration and resource managment. It also rewards creative thinking. The run think shoot life principle shines here.

I don’t give it the best rating, since the final fight was a bit underwhelming. However, the battle with hunters was challenging and fun.

La Habana Libre is a map based off Counter-Strike’s cs_havana, originally created for LambdaGeneration’s ‘Back to the Roots’ mapping competition, which is where I originally played it. Personally I think La Habana Libre might be one of the only good maps I remember playing in the Back to the Roots competition.

Its simple but I think it incorporates cs_havana into a playable Half-Life 2 map really well.

Short but entertaining. Save for a few rough edges here and there (mostly visible nodraw faces), I had zero issues. It manages to feel more nonlinear than many HL2 levels, even though from what I gathered it’s fairly linear. It’s very easy to navigate and I felt the combat was well balanced, I never felt stuck or ran out of ammo, but not like I was handed free combine heads on a silver platter either. It’s really quite nicely put together. Thumbs up!

    It’s fine, i guess.

This is one of those little shiny diamond maps, I agree, maybe, it is not the best fit for combat or thrilling FPS action, indeed the whole mission of the map can be done by walking and not even in a rush, so it is possibly better if You play it on “Hard”, the whole mission it also feels linear but realistic all the way.

The main thing I like the most about this cool map is the nerve to do it, set it on Cuba. Suppose anyone recognizes my recommendations on this site. In that case, they will notice I love these kinds of mods where developers dare to place the whole story arc of the Combine Earth invasion in actual, real places with a real and historical context. So this Cuban map is great precisely in all those senses, because is a real location that transmits this feeling of “la vieja Habana” (The Old Habana) with this tiny colonial Spanish buildings occupied by the CMB forces.

Now, I totally would love to say some things that may improve the gameplay experience for this little cool map. The first is the weapon skins, I know HL2 weapons are the common sense choice, but would be lovely to have actual soviet weapons like AK47s and some RPGs. The second would be to have more rebels to fight in more intense fights especially towards the end as we assume those antennas are utterly essential to CMB ends, so having scarce CMB resistance against our saboteur actions is not very realistic. The third is more like an encouraging statement to the developer: “Please develop a bigger mod set in Cuba” That would be mind-blowing.

Overall this is a Play it Now, no doubts about it! I especially love the gameplay after playing boring and repetitive map-challenge competitions.

    1. Thanks, Hec! I’m glad you liked it! I’d love to do more with a Cuban or South American theme one day. Setting maps in unique locations is an idea I’ve always loved, helps to set them apart a little.

Amazing map! (This is a real keeper) Would you port it to Black Mesa?

  15. Play It Now!

A fun little romp through a unique environment. Really liked how well it was able to convey the location change without much custom assets. Also uses the classic gameplay rule of “go to 3 things to interact with a bigger goal thing” to good effect.

  16. Play It Now!

Very short but this map have a good atmoshpere, good level design, and fun gameplay.

Short and Sweet, well balance gameplay and design, the perfect gaming break 🙂
