Ispitatel 2 continues on from Ispitatel, where you finished in the large office building.
You seem to have been contracted by the Gman, who decides to send you on more missions.
Don’t get too comfortable though, as you move around a lot.

“Ispitatel” is Russian word. It means “the man, who tests something (i.e. airplane)”. Because I played this mod long time ago, I can say only I liked it.
Longer than Ispitatel 1 but still short. A few very short, seemingly unrelated missions, interrupted by looooong boring cut scenes with lots of Russian dialogue. The missions are busy but easy. The production quality in I1 & I2 is good, as is the music in I2, but the storyline and gameplay goes rapidly downhill with I2. 1/5
Requires Opposing Force to be installed (as well as HL) and the OPFOR.WAD file to copied from Sierra/Half-Life/gearbox to Sierra/Half-Life/valve.
Unzip the game to somewhere temp, copy the resulting folder to Sierra/Half-Life as usual.
Ispitatel 3 is a demo and as such is not really playable, so move on to Ispitatel4_classic_english. The best one so far from studio21 and completely different.
a bunch of missisons but they were fun, finished and off to 4, oh waite theirs now a 3 hehe.
Someone help please. I’m going to Zen to destroy Zen generator. After a short battle with slaves, grunts and those vortigonts(spelling), gen. destroyed. It took awhile to figure out, since nothing was happening, pressed button on panel from rocket, small explosion, then all hell breaks lose again. Ran to cave where I came in from then rocket explodes and I’m back at the beginning of the level Where did I go wrong.
Marginally better then Ispitatel 1, but still fairly basic stuff
Wouh its strange to review a mod which is old as this one, but I feel in general at least the 2 first ispitatel series, worth the effort of playing them, I didn’t understand a hell of that russian languaje but the gameplay was ok, not that confusing, and also is worthy because u going to find some cool battles on it, so play it latter if u feeling nostalgic about HL1 and if there’s a lull period like this one in modding scene, then is propper to play it, oh by the way I downloaded this from Le Phillipe Croquete site, I think is called ps cosmos or something like that google it, or if not search for the Phillip dedicated site related to web pages that hold contents of the HL world.
I enjoyed this less than the first one, probably because of the longer cut-scenes.
The action sequences are quite fun but they seem to be connected via the story, which unless you speak Russian is impossible to understand.
Still, if you can live with those cut-scenes you may enjoy it.
Overall, this is an improvement over its predecessor in terms of gameplay. The level design is practically the same providing some good mapping and texturing throughout. Honestly, it’s more of the same with a load of, usually annoying and distracting, scripted cut-scenes but with better and less infuriating gameplay.
What’s also different from the first Ispitatel is that, from what I can understand, you take missions from the administrator. After him and his loyal followers attack the building that you saw in the end of the first pack and kill your colleagues the administrator decides to use you for his dirty work. These missions are varied and different from each other and consists of either infiltrating the facility from the first pack to active three bombs in order to blow it up or setting up a large rocket to blast off into space. During these missions you’re usually accompanied by men of the administrator and they’ll help you out during tough combat sections.
I enjoyed this a lot more and thought it was actually quite fun. There are a few annoying factors still present such as you practically having no idea what’s happening story-wise and newly added features such as unnecessarily long cut-scenes.
I thought this was an improvement in some aspects above Ispitatel 1 but in general it was actually less fun to play. The overlong and frequent cutscenes really make for a disjointed experience.
The mapping is better than in part 1, and you’ll take part in some interesting (and 1 tough) battles, often with grunts on your side (in the green fatigues). It’s usually clear what you should be doing via English instructions on the screen. Also you get to play with a desert eagle similar to Op4’s although without the laser sight, and a pipe wrench also like Op4 but with no charged swing which is why the pipe wrench is fun in the first place.
But what killed this mod for me was the cutscenes. You’re sent on a series of missions by the G-man. The cutscenes are in Russian again, but that’s not the problem. The problem is that they are frequent and typically freeze you in place, and are a major interruption to the flow of the game. It’s frustrating.
The combat is decent but again, it’s frequently interrupted sometimes without a clear reason. Don’t bother with this one.
I would not say that this modification is better than the first part, about the same level, but now it became a little easier, that certainly pleases. But the storyline became worse, and in it there were oversights, omissions and inaccuracies, that may not be pleasant.
Mapping all the same, still crooked, and some levels just scare their curvature.
Scripting is a better because of the humor of the authors has better. Now it can truly be called humor, his vain attempts not. However, the gameplay is not affected, he is – the same as before.
Gameplay is pretty ********, may here have played a bad-designed storyline. Sometimes it does not converge with what is happening on screen. About him, I pretty much written, but suddenly flew “opera” with an error and had to print the text again, I forget all that wrote about the playability.
When difficuly is more appropriate, I can recommend it for the game. But overall, still has not changed, and I will make the same estimate as before: two.
Much better than the first one, but still a little confusing sometimes due to the non-english narration and signage. You can eventually figure most things out.
The school where Ravil worked was attacked by the terrorists. Ravil is now missing and presumed dead. But he was saved by Gman and started to work for the secret organisation. He found out that the ones responsible for the terrorist attacks are Xen aliens who developed a device which can control human minds. The organisation struggles to stop the aliens.
The mod consists of some short missions. Some of them are so short that you just started it and it’s already over. During the missions we go to Gman’s office and he briefs us. There are unnecessary fades to black. And there are some unnecessary teleportations: for example, when we climb down the ladder in LIMP-11, it teleports us to sitting scientist. That’s a horrible idea.
The authors noticed the mistake they made in Ispitatel1 and replaced HEV with vest from Opposing Force. They also added two weapons from OF.
The design is, again, mixed. We will visit a variety of locations. The LIMP-11 labs look great, but other maps are not up to that standard. I liked the breakable wall, it looks more realistic than in other mods.
There are overwhelming fights with monsters, terrorists, but no snarks this time.
I enjoyed it less than the first one, too, because of the unnecessary fades to black, unnecessary teleportations and too short length of some missions which prevented them from feeling complete.
This is difficult for me to rate as it kept crashing on me!
All it seemed to be was Gman(ski) sending you on different seemingly unrelated missions with some over long cut scenes. The cut scenes were annoying in the same way that on some websites you have to sit through an advert before watching the video you clicked on, in this case the author beat them by a number of years.
The crashes were annoying as they seemed to occur at map changes which meant I had to do a manual change, which completely broke the flow of the game. The gameplay was OK(ish) in parts but overall was not fun, as for the look again OK(ish) in parts is the best I can do is echo what I said about part 1:
Oh, I forgot to say, the jet in the hanger, where was it’s undercarriage?
I was bored with this. Only thing that I remember was that falling platform, but anything else was meh. Too much teleporting from place to place, maybe some additional subtitles in english would help to know whats happening…
This mods, like it’s predecessor, is hard to judge because I didn’t get to enjoy the whole mod due to my lack of understanding of Russian. That means I can really only comment on the gameplay and visuals but from what I saw and played, I thought it was generally pretty good.
For the most part, I thought that the indoor areas were fairly well detailed and it had the Black-Mesa-esque feel to it, even though I don’t think it was set anywhere near Black Mesa. The outdoor areas were a bit disappointing because they didn’t have the same level of detailing and felt pretty bland and empty. I think the best areas were the combat set pieces, which made me feel that the areas I was fighting through had some character. I also thought that it was an interesting touch to have you visit some of the previous areas of the first instalment.
The combat, I felt, was really entertaining. I loved the way the tension was ramped up as swarms of grunts or aliens came flooding in and I was given an escape route just as I thought I was about to be overrun. The only problem was that I inevitably ended up with 1-5 HP when I escaped, only to be whisked off to my next battle without being able to heal. I would have enjoyed it more if there was some chance to heal between or during battles so the next fight isn’t ridiculously hard.
The other problem I had was that I felt I wasn’t given enough time to play in the combat set pieces. It just felt like I was being rushed through them. I think a gradual build up forces swarming in would have been more enjoyable than the all-in that I saw. I also think it would have heighten the tension more before you are relieved.
The most annoying thing about this mod, I thought, were the lengthy cut-scenes. It may be because I don’t understand Russian but I felt that at least half the time I spent was listen to the cut-scenes. If I understood what was happening, I may feel differently but I think that story could possible have been better told without locking the player and forcing them to listen to someone talk. I also thought that the gratuitous use of teleporting the player to a cut-scene was also unnecessary.
Overall, this mod has some interesting combat when you get to it and the visuals aren’t too bad but the lengthy Russian cut-scenes may put you off if you don’t understand Russian and/or don’t want sit through them.
The gameplay is fun but there were too many cutscenes to keep my interest.
The gameplay to this mod was similar to the first one. Huge battles and tons of running away, which I liked. There were way too many cutscenes however, most of which were in the exact same place and it just made this mod too boring for me. Even if the voices were in English, this still would have been boring. There is a little puzzle at the start although it’s just pressing a few buttons. The difficulty was a little to easy but it was generally good.
If you liked the first one then this one is worth playing
It’s pretty fun.
I was actually surprised! This is a very decent mod.
There are a lot of cutscenes in it, which is nice, but it’s a Russian mod, and in most of these cutscenes (almost all) people talk Russian. That’s why I couldn’t understand a thing G-Man said.
The combat is kind of random. There are different “levels”, where when you beat one, it leads you to G-Man. Sometimes there are aliens, then there are soldiers, helicopters, etc.
Also, something I noticed was that the Monkey Wrench and the Deagle from Opposing Force have no reason to be here. I realized the Wrench is actually a crowbar WITH a Wrench skin and the Deagle is basically the revolver.
I say it has some flaws and things that don’t even have to be there, but try it out!
Very Good continuation of original Ispitatel 1
