I can’t get excited about this map at all. The doors seem to be custom made and they look terrible. I really don’t understand why modders do stuff like this. I can understand the desire to have something new and not use the same assets all the time but if they don’t look at least as good as the originals don’t use them.

Creating an interesting apartment block is a lot harder than it may seem and I feel the modder’s time would have been better spent on making something more detailed and closer to the HL2 world.

The gameplay is too bland with no surprises.

I haven’t given it an AVOID IT! because there are worse maps on PP, but you should really only play it, if you want to play everything.

I suggest you play it with just the pistol because that will at least provide something slightly more challenging.

My advice to the modder is to forget about new stuff but try and sue the existing style of HL2 in interesting ways.

For a first map, this is very good indeed.
The walls needing sorting out, very bland.
Other than that, 2 or 3 areas were rather well done.
One area has some decent fighting but the rest is easy and straight forward.

The end is so disappointing though.
Armed to the teeth, ready to go Beserker, go to the double doors expecting the battle of your life and………………. 🙁

I hope that Teh Frog takes this further (but with proper doors!).
Teh Frog needs to be encouraged. I’m off to do just that.

Good job for a first map Teh Frog, but…

-3D skybox for the roof bit would have been nice http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/3d_skybox

-On the roof there is a padlock that when broken doesn’t unlock the gate door

-use prop_door_rotating for doors instead of func_door_rotating http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Prop_door_rotating

-place AI nodes around your map so the Combine can run around and attack more stragetically http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Info_node

-try to use proper scale for your architechture. Your walls were too high in the hallways and the bathrooms seemed too big. Look at pictures of real life location, it well help!

-try to dedicate some more time to lighting, it can really make or break a map http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Intermediate_Lighting

-plan out a more satisfying ending next time. As Jasper said, you set up the player for a big fight but then faded to the end of the level as soon as you opened the double doors.

Hope this helps in your future endevours, I hope to see more from you Mr. Frog 🙂

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. I have been working on it some more, it will be broken off into two maps due to Source’s limitations. I will follow all of your advice. I varied textures and what not and I will scale rooms to more “proper” sizes. I will be working hard even after a hammer crash that left me with nearly nothing. (Thank god for VMEX.) The newest version has proper hl2 doors. I will begin re-doing the second map within the week. Since I’m a persistent bastard, I feel that I will vary the rooms and hallways more and add another floor. I’m planning on some more game play elements that will take you further than just the front doors. Don’t worry guys, this map(s) is far from done. 🙂

    1. Good to see you here Teh Frog. There’s right load of mappers and players here 😀

Average, but good so this is my feedback for the modder who developed this map.
it was ok, maybe too easy, but I conssider that if you built more maps and put’em all together and add a simple story, you could made an acceptable mod, so keep on working guy!!, i’d like to see some work of yours in the future and surelly could see the progression on your skills

On the other hand thinks that I don’t like about the map, were, as phillip said, those rustic doors, really were out of the map tonic, also plenity of ammo for few enemmys, maybe if you would had put a hunter on the map that plenity of ammo would be justified….

well thats all, thnk you for sharing your map, buddy, keep on working!!

    Think Twice

I would put a think twice, due to lack of enemmys, maybe could be a good introduction for those gamers of HL who are still in pampers…, anyway the developer could improve his skills with more maping

  7. Teh Frog

The newest build is more intricate with different gameplay aspects. There are more enemies and even I, a skilled Half-Life player, have had trouble in it. I died twice. I put AI nodes to make them smarter and be better at combat. I scaled the second floor appropriately, and changed some textures to spice it up a bit. I will be continuing with a second map. Sources limitations force me to make two maps.

  8. Teh Frog

    Also, it has proper doors.

  9. Think Twice

Crude yet in some ways I enjoyed its simplicity. Well.. umm.. worth one play? Maybe!

  10. Maybe?

A mediocre map. I’m not saying that this is bad but more like bland. All you gotta do is just go down and kill everyone. As for the mapping, I have no idea why you have to make your own door and it looks way too big.
