I’m only just about halfway through the mod, but I can already say that the qualitiy it top! Very good atmosphere and some nice set pieces surrounded by challenging but not unfair combat. In case the author is reading this, I would list some small nitpicks that could be improved:
– The intro train ride is quite long especially as the narrator voice is drowned out by the ambient sounds. I don’t know if this relays to my setup, but if it doesn’t please make the narrator louder!
– After the cascade happens you are a long time without weapons although you find several dead guards. Who has taken their guns? If you want to keep the suspension swap them with scientists.
– There is one really difficult jump inside an elevator onto a ladder that should be made easier. I had to noclip up after dozends of attempts and this gave me a bad first impression of the mod!
– Overall there is some inconsistency about which crates you can break and which you can’t. Normally this is clear in HL. Also the biggest wooden crates sound metallic which is weird.
I have finished it now and althought the quality was high until the end, the latter was very abrupt indeed. As if the developer planned to continue the mod and then just lost interest. Still nice to experience all the great weapons and enemies of Opposing Force once again! Compared to that the arsenal of HL2 was really a step back…
This Review contains spoilers!!!! Don’t read it if you don’t wanna get spoiled of events to come!!!!
Hey, I’ve actually played through this mod and I was even partially beta testing it.
Let me tell you that this is indeed a very lovely mod but one that also suffers somewhat of missed opportunities.
After a lovely made train ride we arrive at our workplace and once we slipped into our work clothes off we go to our assigned work place. In this case some people are having problems with their equipment and we as electrician expert need to take care of it.
Unfortunately we won’t come far into our repairs of the malfunctioning equipment as at this very moment the resonance cascade occurs and some electric shock takes us out cold for the next 6 hours to come.
As we know it of Half-Life and it’s numerous mods our next goal means to reach the surface. While trying to accomplish that we encounter many dangers along our way…
Aliens and soldiers (Black Ops in this case) alike. As usual it’s up to us to safe the day. In our case we’re just like Green & Cross trying to seal off the rift that’s getting held open of the other side.
Eventually we manage to fulfill our goal and once more try to escape the Black Mesa compound. And eventually we even succeed in doing so.
Pro:
-Maps mapped on a very HQ level.
-Few lovely scripted sequences in place.
-Custom voices in place.
-A longer playtime guaranteed.
-Neat riddles here and there.
Contra:
-Somewhat barren in execution, while there are lovely scripted npc sequences in use more would’ve been preferred. It feels mostly monotone and devoid of life.
– Black Ops en mass instead of HECU, by the time this takes place HECU should still be arriving en mass. By far the biggest flaw this mod suffers from.
– Sometimes little barren regarding audio diversity, considering ears play along.
– An ending that’s rather abrupt and out of the blue.
-Wooden boxes that are often giving you a metal sound instead of wooden smashing sound.
Conclusion: Despite it flaws it’s a solid and well thought out mod. However with few adjustments it could easily become one of the top 30 hl1 classic mods to date. The map structure stands, only it’s flaws needs to be addressed and it’ll be one hell of an epic mod experience. As it stands now I rather call this a map pack series unrelated to Half-Life due to the Black Ops scenery and the not closer mentioned Rift incident in which you travel to XEN. Law wise it didn’t make much sense just yet unless the visit to XEN happened before Cross & Greens visit to XEN.
All in all a solid HL1 mod release but at the moment as it is somewhat lacking soul and purpose.

Well, I can’t give a review as despite trying twice I can’t find anywhere to go after almost the beginning. Got the suit, got the crowbar, killed a few headcrabs and a couple of zombies…then wander around aimlessly. Every door seems to be locked, nothing breaks except one glass door..pretty boring so far. Sorry, I’m sure it’s great, if you know where you are going.
@Wesp5: He did indeed. And we can thank Covid19 that this mod has actually seen daylight at all. Otherwise it probably never would’ve at all. That’s what the author told me. When he began working on this mod he used to be 15 years old. Today he is 27 years old. You you can imagine that things and priority change not to mention the aspect of lacking time and planning on creating a family.
It clearly shows. He is aware that the mod still contained many flaws but thought rather to release it than never at all, after all. I suspect judging by the quality of maps that it was still a solid decision on his part. It’s a gem and who knows he wants to release a patch addressing some of the mentioned issues by reviewers both here and on moddb. So lets see how things progress along the line & time.
The mod certainly holds potential to be a top of the line mod.

Finally finished this intersting and fun to play mod.
It’s another HL adventure that follow the orignal game concept but with it’s own creating idea…it was really fun sadly decreasing at the end through the rushing experience only combats oriented after the Xen experience, like 23-down says it certainly misses some cutscenes.
On my own experience
what I Liked
+ the exellent mappy skill
+ the present of original puzzles and great visual effect in some place
+ the descent combat
+ the easy to progress gameplay not too linear
+ the fact that I could access some ‘secret places’ to have some munitions and health reward
+ the original voice acting especially the woman voice during the train ride
What I didn’ really like
+ Too dark sothat I need to use a lot the night googles which sadly depreciate the visual experience (even if this increase the ‘stressing’ one)
+ Some taugh combats that don’t need to be finish to progress sothat, at a first point I loose a lot of time trying to clean up the place thinking it was needed to progress
+ those wooden box with a metal noise
+ the somewhat disapointing end
But it’s certainly a mod that needed to be played I had a lot of fun and really wanted to finish it with is a sign i like it 🙂
So really a big thanks to the autor to release this one after a soo long time to work on it, you should really be proud of you work and to finally deliver it

This mod feels like you’re playing vanilla Half-Life with Opposing Force slapped into it. Very challenging and fun gameplay albeit with an abrupt ending.

Yes I agree with the various problems noted above, however there was a massive amount of gameplay, way more than most maps, which is exactly what I wanted in these perilous times! So to me it deserves a PIN.

This is pretty fun; it’s nice to be back in the HL/OF universe. The author has some clever use of sounds incorporated into the mod and you have a decent choice of weaponry to use. The 4 minute intro train ride was a bit much IMO but overall I enjoyed it.

Congratulations on finishing such a big mod. We all know how long it takes to finish something like this.
The mod starts in a train ride. For my taste it went a little bit too fast but it was not too shabby (I like to look around a lot), the beginning reminded me of blue shift and I loved it.
I think the the disaster was kinda weak. But plausible if its far away. After that its a lot of red lights and dark area’s, in area’s I couldnt even see the black ops, with or without nightvision. Some very laggy area’s, wich could have been fixed up in my opinion. I usually quit maps/mods when this happens (wich I did) but I ended up finishing it the next day.
I’m not oblivious this is an old engine (then it still shouldn’t be needed), but this was “more is less” in area’s that were not even interesting to see.
I think the inconsistency and spam is what makes this mod suffer. I read it was made over a period of 10+ years with gaps, but it wouldnt be a bad idea to rethink stuff that has been made in an earlier stage.
Overall im happy there is a new mod, but it could have been so much better.
What was good
+ Outside area’s are very great and showoff how big it overall is
+ Voice acting
+ Scripting
+ Ambience
What could be better
– Lighting (the lights itself, and the lightning)
– Clean mapping
– Monster spam getting rediculous near the later maps
– Consistency
– Sometimes it is not clear of what to do
This seems a tad bit negative, but it is just that I think that it could have been alot better, because the knowledge is there.
BIG PROPS TO RELEASING IT.

Well for the start I would say that this is a great mod. But the Puzzles can get confusing and i got stuck on so many parts. But I managed to get tru them. I Enjoyed my time, especially the ending! that shit was gooooooood!

Wasnt expecting this mod to be as long as it is, extra points for that.
This has so much potential to be much better, final touch is just missing. For me there was so much boring areas without puzzles/monsters and with bland atmosphere.
Extra points for custom voice acting, wouldnt be bad to have more of that. Same with scripted moments, there wasnt too many of them for long mod like this.
I managed to find RPG ammo near the end, but i never say RPG?
When I started playing the mod, I thought it was going to be a good mod, that’s what I thought, until the stuttering started, enemy spam, empty rooms with no explanation of how to continue, hidden vents, among other things that spoiled my experiences, in the beginning you can even get stuck because of an invisible wall on the train, the mod has potential, but these things, at least for me, spoiled my experience (and sorry for the bad english, i used Google translator)

First of all, my kudos to the developer of this mod, since he has been working on it for more then 10 years, and he tried a LOT to actually make it playable and release it. I know what it’s like working on something for a long time, and I’ve experienced the struggle and the fear of never releasing it at all that consumes you as time goes by. That’s why I think that releasing this mod is much better than leaving it be after all these years.
Now, the mod itself isn’t too bad! In fact, the mapping looks really professional and each area feels natural and realistic, almost Valve-like in some places. Progressing through this mod truly feels like you’re trying to escape from BM and the set pieces and the atmosphere help a lot with this. Not to mention, at times I felt like this was kind of a remix of the original HL, as many set pieces are very similar to those of the original game, both in order and in appearance.
The OF content was a nice surprise and I don’t see many mods/maps utilize it. Fighting Race-X aliens or using their weird weapons is pretty original compared to the vanilla enemies we know and love.
However, there were still things I didn’t like that much about this mod. For starters, I’m not a fan of the lighting in the majority of the maps, since there was barely any to begin with! I don’t know if it was done for realistic reasons or that the mapper simply didn’t mind, but I almost had eye strain due to the night-vision goggles! This was pretty much my biggest issue with this mod. At first I thought it was atmospheric, but then it was just annoying.
Also, I’m not a fan of this mod’s abrupt ending, but I guess I can forgive that, since it’s a miracle this mod was released at all – the mapper was probably exhausted. My last issue is just a nitpick, but at times I felt like the enemies were a bit out there – sometimes they would attack from places I couldn’t see or from behind me, which can lead to some unfair deaths here and there.
Overall, is this a bad mod? Absolutely not! It has its issues, but what doesn’t? This is a great mod and with a few tweaks here and there, it could have been one of the best! I’m looking forward to seeing more from this mapper – if he has the courage to make any more content, that is! 😀
I guess with this mod we have a perfect “Play it Later” consensus. I mean perfect because this is that kind of play it later mod from the beginning to the end. And by saying that I’m not meaning it is a bad mod you know. I mean the mod is just OK, it has some nicely done parts where you can actually feel you’re in Black Mesa filled with grunts, xenians, race x aliens, and black ops troops. And some other parts that feel very boxy and narrowed, even some parts that are frankly badly designed, especially at the ending part of the mod right there where you face the missile launcher tank and the helicopter.
One thing that really bothered me quite a lot was the lack of all the weapons, it seemed that the only elements of the Opposing Force game in this mod were only a few weapons of that game and the race x aliens and that’s it. But you can’t even input in the console the “impulse 101” cheat to fulfill all weapons, so that was very stressful, especially because the only heavy weapon available was the 50 cal. MG and not the RPG launcher.
Also, as I said, the end felt quite made in a rush, and the story was based on the basic plot of “get the hell outta here” and that’s it.
Overall provides nice quick entertainment but not much more than that, is a solid Play it Later. Despite it can improve a lot if the author takes the time to enhance it in another version, I hope he takes that bother, it would be pretty cool to play it again with proper corrections done.

I would love to give a higher rating but:
Crates are very inconsistent about which you can break.
I got stuck twice and once i needed to use noclip but overall design and player guidance is great.
Chapters mostly blend to each other and it seems like the middle of the mod is harder than the end.
Probably because of low amount of health items. It is definitely too long or poorly pased because i feel like i spent DAYS on it.
At least later sections look much more fresh and don’t blend to one another quite as much.
Most of the mod seems uninspired and ending is rushed.
I feel like a lot of hard work was wasted because of only a couple of inconveniences 🙁
Also i loved the humour and the ending music.

My favorite 2020 mod along with twhl 2 (tough i liked this one more)
Nostalgia is strong in The Infected, you start in that classic train and is very similar to half life in terms of gamplay.
Voice acting was wonderful, black otis was great, and Mr roy (i believe) had a very deep voice
Mapping was excellent from beginning to end.
Combat was always balanced outside of a couple areas like xen gargantua and female black ops in the dark.
It’s a near perfect mod that i don’t hesitate recommending.

This one is somewhat okay to me. My first issue here is that the game is too dark. The nighttime setting has nothing to do with it. Like at least add some light to some areas. The combat is too hard because they spam so many enemies in one area. The ending appears to be rushed which is kinda bad as well. Overall this is okay.
