At long last, the full standalone version of G String is released, now on Steam. If you’ve played the beta or followed the long development of this mod turned retail game, the time has finally come to savor the full experience of G String by Eyaura!
Slip into the Standard Issue Biosuit as Myo Hyori, a gifted Korean teenage girl who must face the perils of the future. Survive many hazards, explore a seemingly endless metropolis and beyond as the world around you implodes and history marches towards its inevitable conclusion.
This is a cyberpunk inspired first person shooter with light environmental puzzles and a long, detailed singleplayer campaign focused on story and world building. G-String aims for an old school approach where there is minimal hand holding and your biosuit automatically keeps track of your health stats, ammunition count and armor condition.
You need supplies to heal yourself, replenish your ammo/armor but your suit automatically takes care of your lights, sprinting and breathing (open air and underwater). Your on-board neuro-enhancers, air filters and light sources automatically recharge using movement and/or sunlight.
Courtesy of Bortz Bioengineering your biosuit is very resilient but you do have to be careful: prolonged exposure to toxins will lead to fatal failure! You need to watch out for all sorts of environmental hazards, especially later on when the pace picks up considerably.
Your telekinetic/pyrokinetic abilities will be available from the start and throughout most of the game, they should be enough to make progress until there are more means of input available. Worthy to note that initially your night-vision will be disabled as your biosuit was damaged presumably in earlier lab experiments.

Interesting. I’m currently replaying the free version that I downloaded on RTSL years ago. I wonder how much different the new one is?
Actually the G-String on Steam is a completely redesigned story and none of the free version chapters are present in the Steam one. So I strongly advise you to buy it…
can you type ‘ status ‘ in the console, and tell me the first map? Thank you. (im trying to load it on synergy)
Wow, it’s not every day you get to see an entire game made in Source. I’ll have to wishlist this immediately 🙂
Wow, what a stellar disappointment! I’m looking into this just now, but I would guess that for each minute you actually glimpse a cool bit of the cyber punk setting you are crawling an hour through always similar looking abandonded buildings, air shafts and sewer sections. Whoever thought that jumping from one object to another to not fall into a toxic swamp is fun? Especially doing this again and again? And why are all HL2 mods that went commercial so bad? I think Black Mesa is the only exception and probably only because they had a great game to base their mod on…
Whoa. 12 YEARS waiting for this!
G-string is a behemoth of a mod. While it is technically a mod, it actually feels like a seperate game. It is based on Half-life 2, but the atmosphere and sounds of G-string gives it a really distinctive character.
It took me over 22 hours to complete this game and I enjoyed at least 95% of it, which is more than enough to boost it to a ‘personal favourite’ for me. The world of G-string is very alive in the sense that it is clear that this world doesn’t revolve around the player, but the player is simply a tiny part in this massive and intimidating universe.
The gameplay is mostly balanced and enjoyable and at a certain point in the game reaches a level I’ve personally never seen before in a source mod/map (not gonna tell how and when because spoilers!). However, there were also a few moments with a bit too many enemies in small spaces and getting shot out of seemingly nowhere. I do want to stress that these moments were far and few between and certainly didn’t ruin the whole experience.
The visuals? Basically consistently very good throughout the whole game and simply jaw-dropping at certain points, especially in the second half. It seems that every bit of potential has been squeezed out of the source engine to make G-string look as good as possible, and the results are tremendous.
Sounds? The sounds are completely different from Half-life 2 while at the same time of very high quality, and this helps greatly to give G-string this distinct and brilliant character. The custom music is also really well done and has been implemented at the ‘right’ time during the game. By that I mean that beatiful vistas and combat encounters are sort of highlighted nicely.
A few small gameplay issues aside, this was truly a brilliant experience and absolutely worth the price!

All that telekinetik / pyrokinetik stuff just makes it all too complicated for me, it’s just too busy..
No worries, the telekinetic stuff is just the gravity gun in disguise and you only need the pyrokinetic feature a few times. Otherwise you get reskins of the HL2 guns and can use those while endlessly crawling through vents and sewers…
Waited for this for 12 years!!!
LOVE the map design and especially the atmosphere.
Not quite as nerve-racking and intense as the first, but it makes up for it in so many ways.
Quite a few very clever ideas and areas.
I found the mod really great, a mod that says it’s pretty good for its money, if you’re going to play it now, the mod is awesome, from the weapon models to the animations to the voiceovers, a great job has been done
