Frozen Ice

for Half-Life 2: Episode Two

23rd December 2017

A little while ago I posted an unofficial weekend challenge. The theme was 3 states of matter: Solid, Liquid and Gas.

The idea was to try to encourage clever and interesting use of those ideas to create puzzles and situations for the player to face.

Unfortunately, only one person sent a map in and this is it.

It’s very short but offers some simple puzzles.

It’s always nice to see new maps, even if they are simple and short.

This map adds a nice idea of melting ice, although the effect of it melting is a little “simple””.

As part of something larger the use of solid, liquid and gas could be pretty cool.

I have only given this a MAYBE because it really is quite short and offers very little gameplay.

Anyway, try it and see if you enjoy it.

  2. Play It Later

I enjoyed but there was a couple of tiny mistakes (e.g. the door and the door are vice versa :D).

  3. Heh, I almost forgot about this unofficial Ville. Well, this map is kinda thrown together in a rushed way and not much attention has been paid to detail and gameplay. Some elements from previous maps have been reused. Total development time is roughly 6 hours. Despite this, chances are high this map will be #1 in this Ville … !

ICE – A half-life 2 Expansion Pack is completed on moddb. It fits the theme, if interested.

  5. Play It Later

Really Short experience but like it a lot, through small idea and concept this short release gave me some simple enjoyment … too short for shure but enjoyable 🙂

  6. Play It Later

Very short, but enjoyable. The concept of melting ice is quite interesting. Perhaps if there was a longer version, we could get to freeze water as well?

Anyway, these are just ideas. I’m giving the map the rating of “Play it later” mainly because of how short it is. If anyone comes up with a longer map in about the same style, I’d be happy to try it out.

  7. Think Twice

Quirky little map this one. I liked the idea of melting the ice but was then left wondering if there was actually water there or if it had disappeared. Wasn’t very visual…

The elite guards added a little rush to the ending scenes but overall I can’t say that I was too impressed. Bit of a shame about this “ville” really.

  8. Play It Later

Very Short and Nice Made. I enjoyed it the most at the part where to proceed in this map, you had to melt the ice. But the Melting effects were simple and was not that exciting in the end. This Map is very short so it cant be boring. If I saw a longer map of this concept, I would immediatly try it.

  9. Think Twice

Not much to say about this map. The visuals ranged from okay to bad.
The mechanic with the melting ice was only used two times, I believe more could’ve been done with it.
There is a bit of combat at the end, two Zombies and three Elites. The combat isn’t hard at all, you get a lot of suitpower.
The only part for me that was actually BAD, was after using the gas to melt the ice in the room with the dead Metrocop. I had no clue what I was supposed to do, and I had to check the screenshots.

Overall, this may be worth a play if you have nothing else to do.

  10. Play It Later

I didn’t give this a maybe only because of how short it is. It’s pretty cool to see ice being used like that, but I don’t think that’s how ice works. Good idea nevertheless. Took me only about 3 minutes to complete.

The visuals could be better, but after looking through the comments, it seems this was for some kinda competition. I was concerned when I saw the combine elite, but I quickly killed them.

Play it later when you have some time to kill. It did give me some new ideas.
