This mod contains an arcade campaign (Trial of Gordon) and a chapter of the story campaign Jagged working on (Entrapment Starts) and also two other maps that Jagged made (Alcatraz and Garrison).
This arcade campaign is set in stages, you’ll know when you’re done the stage when a message saying “level complete” appears. It’s recommended to play this on Normal or even Easy if it gets too difficult.
The story mode with 3 parts to the first chapter, everything seems normal when Gordon travels back to his lodge but the combine have begun their cleansing of the area. You must think to survive, block a doorway, look for that essential explosive barrel, or light an oil pool to start a fire, these are some of things you must do to survive.
- Pistol does more damage per shot
- The combine can take more damage
- Different weapon and character skins

I’ve just played the first part & holy bat crap! You start out guns blazing in an all out combine war. I love it when the tiles go tink from bullets & when you’re done, they’re laying everywhere & you feel like you’ve just been in the Matrix. Note: make your shots count because not only do you not have very much cover; as the body count adds up, you can’t collect weapons or ammo from them. That part truly sucks.
Post post:
Under ‘tweaks’: “The combine can take more damage”
Are you kidding me? Playing on normal, I know I submitted quite a few shots to the HEAD to kill one combine.
I had to stop playing this because it game me a headache. Too much of an adrenaline rush I think. I’m sure someone else will post about the graphics as I didn’t have much time to pay real close attention since I getting my ass kicked from everywhere. They should have called this Half Life Massacre because that’s basically what happens to you. The AI is great though. Tough, tricky little bastards move too fast. My favortie level so far has been the Recreational Area. Great music for that adrenaline rush (although the music doesn’t last long enough for me). It’s mods like these that I like to turn the lights out, put on the headphones or have the stereo speakers blazing my own personal ass kicking soundtrack (because nobody (yet) has time to say anything). Oh, I did notice that you can collect some enemies weapons/ammo, but not all of them. Don’t know why that is. Anyway, I thought it was great fun. I just wish my head would stop spinning for a while & I would quit shaking.
OH MAN! This game is a Rush!
It took me 3 sittings to beat this.
This is a Must Play Mod!
Great gameplay, great music, great PHYSICS, great everything.
Play it on easy though lol.
5/5 Stars!
Damn this r0x0rs my b0x0rz. Heh ;D Nice mod, and from far is one of the best I already played so far. Good work, very good work.
Okay, good mod so far. Now I have freed the prisoners, the alarm is ringing and there is no where to go…
Somebody give me a clue where to go next in the prison, please.
Frederick, are you playing the Trials of Gordon part?
If you are, there is no where to go until you kill all the combines & it tells you the level is complete. After that, the elevator will open up (from where you first started the level) & you should be able to proceed.
Expecting a Fluffy The Hamster review? Well, you’re not getting one. This mod is way too big and i’v already hammered my bandwidth too much for awhile. Sorry.
Well, we’ll all be holding our breath Fluffy until you do. 🙂
Goddess, I believe I had wasted all the combines in the prison, then I killed the zombies in their cells, then I freed the humans from their cells. Now I am standing around with 4 humans staring at me and no where to go. I suspect one of the combines must be hiding on the upper level. I will have to try grenading the upper level to kill off that coward so the level will finish.
Er, I think maybe you have to kill the humans too & be the last man standing.
Uh, oh…humans gotta die, too? But I deliberately fought all the bad guys myself to keep the others alive. Sigh! Well, it’s worth a try.
Let me know if that works. In that part, I killed the zombies first & released the prisoners to help me with the combines so none of mine ever made it alive.
Frederick, I just played that level again & freed the prisoners at the end & it sill let me advance to the next round. After killing the combines (it will tell you the level is complete), just walk back towards the door you came from & you should see a teleporter (glowing ball of some sort).
If anyone is playing or has played the Entrapment part, how do you get past Security Clearance Alpha in the Hidden Fortress?
Okay, I let the humans die this time. I could not kill them myself, although I tried. The next level opened up. So much for trying to protect the humans. Thanks for the help.
Finally found out how to proceed to the Hidden Fortress in Entrapment. Luckily (which I like most), they put labels on the combine consoles so you know what they are & what exactly they are for. At that particular point, you need a keycard to access the number pad to get the door to open. It’s located around the guard you killed at the bottom of the steps. Look around his body & a message will pop up saying it’s a keycard (just in case anybody else didn’t notice it first time around like me). You need to use your “use” key to pick it up & carry it over to the pad & insert it. The next area also will require a keycard to access the next level.
I am to the point where it says it is to be continued which I assume might happen someday. I thought the developer of this certainly has potential and hope he will continue his work. I played it on the usual medium setting and did use cheats when the frustration level got too high. I thought there were too many foes which tended to come in waves and limited reasonable progress at a reasonable rate. More arcade than a story. I grew longer in the tooth and grayer due to long load times, but that is what we get with HL2.
Your doing better than me.I cant get past level 13.Game keeps crashing.I don’t really like this mod anyway because all you do is shoot the number of combines for that level and advance. Its sorta like space invaders console games but done with combines.Space Invaders wasn’t fun and neither is this.
The trials DO get to be a bit monotonous, but I trooped ahead anyway just to finish. Didn’t care for the other 2 maps included with it. Entrapment was decent enough. As for your game crashing. I had that problem in the level as well (multiple, multiple times). After it happened the first time, I would go to a saved game, but after that any time I fired my rockets, it would immediately crash. Finally had to uninstall it, re-install it, load the closest map & start from there. Took me about 5-6 tries to finally get it to not crash. Of course, women do tend to have more patience than men. 😉
Give it up will ya ; Mine also crashes when rockets are fired so thats as far as I got but don’t like the mod so I’m in no hurry to fix it.It was probably the best level I saw in this mod too(visual wise).
Mine also crashed which, if I didn’t know better, would lead me to believe the crashes and freezes were built-in.
Wow. Sounds like a great map. 😉
It started off that way, but then again, I’ve never played an arcade type like that before. It did get a bit old &, of course, there’s the problem with it crashing on one of the levels. I just want to say that I hope that doesn’t keep people from playing the “Entrapment” portion of the game. No computer crashes or anything & it’s more along the lines of your traditional mod.
I love this mod. The mapping and lighting are superb.I’ve got to a bit in the Entrapment Begins chapter (hle1_p3) and can’t figure out what to do. I’ve killed everything; blown up the helicopter thing; flicked all the switches; seen everything there is to see! I just can’t figure out what to do. I don’t know if post 19 refers to the same map, but I’ve searched all the bodys and can’t find any key cards. I really don’t want to noclip through to the next level.
Just ignore me! The labels on the consoles show as enabled when they aren’t and vice versa.
Filecloud seems to be having difficulty today.
This is really horrible un-balanced mod!!
AMAZING, MUST-SEE architecture in map hle3_p1.
HELP!!!!! I’m stuck on level “Combinebusiness 4”. I have killed all the hordes of combine and then it says “Level Complete”, but I can’t find any opening to get out of it, and onto to the next level. Please someone help me out here. I really would be so grateful.
I cant get it to show up in my games list on steam, so I haven’t played it!
desertalienz-Same problem here-I have it sitting in sourcemods but it’s not showing in Steam My Games. Got no idea what the problem is.
Managed to finish this modification amazingly there are key factors that make this mod good to some and bad to others. In some sense this isn’t a modification that everyone can enjoy unfortunately.
This modification requires a lot of patience, moving around, trial and error. You will do more times than you would like, but in a way perhaps that is the test of the mod keeping cool under pressure and forcing your way to the end.
Every item is crucial of when you should pick it up, and where it is located. This is something that needs to be thought up quickly, and precisely I found in order to get through the modification.
I found most of the issues were do to Half-Life 2 itself, N.P.C.’s always getting in the way, slow reload animations, automatic weapon switching every time you pick up a new weapon.
It is one of those Rage Modifications like Gateway or The Great Forever Tomorrow. I personally enjoyed this modification, but I did start to feel my blood pressure go up lol.
Interesting bunch of maps but plays terrible. Even with a plethora of ammo and health lying around, you will die a lot. They just come at you in droves. Not much fun.
