  1. Phillip says Play It!

yes, this is worth playing but you should know that it is unfinished, so the ending is absent.

The train ride is well done and the crash is pretty cool too. I didn’t manage to surface to take a screenshot but I recommend you replay if you have to so you can see the crash site.

Once in the cavern, I was quite impressed. The feeling is well done and entrance to the base is also nicely done.

Once inside you need to crawl around a bit and fight some enemies. It’s a shame it was never finished.

Thanks to 23down for sending me the file and if anybody knows anything about the map please let em know.

  2. Play It Later

Oh ya that one was a beauty. I believe it was a map created for some russian mapping contest if I remember correct and the author unfortunately never finished it in time. So he released it as it is unfinished.

I totally I agree with Phillip that it is a pity that this wasn’t finished. Author if you should see this. Please finish this and give us a proper ending. 🙂

Due to the fact that it is unfinished I will give it only 4 points otherwise it would become 5 without question.
To the map itself.. It features awesome scripts & well created areas as well as good lightning and clever monster placement. Give it a shot.

  3. Play It Now!

The best of the OFNF so far, it’s a real shame it wasn’t finished!

Just as I was getting into this, it was over, which considering that it was (in my opinion) a well made map, really PEE’d me off.!!!

From the beginning it looked as though the author had put in the effort to make this look good and what little gameplay there was, it was a good prelude of things that unfortunately never came. The cavern after you go over the waterfall was, considering the age and limitations of the engine, really well implemented. The only negative to this map is that the end really left me feeling cheated, and using noclip won’t find you a way to continue.

This is head and shoulders above the entries so far. Despite it being painfully short and unfinished, it is one you should play, to see the contrast between this and Corruption which is of a similar vintage.

  4. Maybe?

What’s this, a good OpForce map? I was beginning to think such a thing was impossible! Then again, maybe we are being a little too generous towards this map as a result of the other ones so far.

The main selling point would be the high level of graphical polish, for example we visit a cave environment with new textures and a cool faux-godray effect. The interior layout and design was also well-made, but really it was just too short. The ending also appears to be a puzzle but isn’t, which is confusing. This definitely feels like the intro to a great mod, but there is far too little substance to this small piece.

Overall I preferred playing Space Disaster but this one had the benefit of the scripted intro and very good graphics.

PS Phillip, I’m having a problem with MapTap today, it keeps asking me to update to version 2.3.1, restarting to apply the update, and then asking to update again…

    Think Twice

Well this map starts off promising but as the others said it’s really over before it begins. It’s unfortunate that this map wasn’t completed since the part we do get to see is pretty attractive and fairly well polished.

While I felt the train ride was a little lacking (nice idea but kind of boring), it doesn’t last long and you find yourself outside in some nicely designed areas. For some reason there’s a silent teleport as you fall over the waterfall, but then you find the entrance to the base which is also well done.

There is a small puzzle and just a bit of combat. Be sure to explore or you’ll miss some weapons. I can’t say I liked the interior much, but the elevator shaft is nifty – but also the end of this short map.

Given the incomplete experience, I can’t recommend this unless you just want to see some nice design in the Goldsource engine. As the image says, I feel it is only for real fans.

Hey, look what I found! http://www.planetphillip.com/posts/es-half-life/

Major coincidence: I was catching up on some reviews and played ES just after finishing EP RST. It’s no question they’re the same author, and there are sections in common (the angled vent room, the cave). Just look at screenshot 1 on that page and you’ll see.

Interestingly enough, EP RST seems to be entering the base while ES is escape. Perhaps they should be combined to actually offer a complete gameplay experience.

Yep I definitely played that one and reviewed it on may 26 2011. I apparently forgot about it, but just looking at the screenshoot, I remember it was a nice good map, and indeed that cave is the same, the author must be the same as Unq says.

    2. Yes, the author is the same – Flash. I wrote him about this discussion and suggested to join us. Also I told him about our hope of the progression on the mod. We can only wait.

    Play It Later

Well at last we have a map worthy too be in green label, indeed this map is a really hard shame because it’s unfinished, that’s a shame, and would be great if any moder could take this map and add some other progression on it, that just would be great.

So far here we have a sign of what it could be a really good map or maybe a mod. That cave is fantastic and absolutely amazing how the developer worked with the incoming light from the roof of the cave.

Then the map layout was clever and with a nice puzzle of how to proceed, but that’s it, then u find the end once you have killed the xenian and the xrace enemies insde the compound. For me this is a perfect Play it latter because the mapping is good, but not enough to be a Play it now, maybe if it would have been finished surely would’ve been a good mod and a Play it now. for now PL seems to be a fair recom.

  8. Play It Now!

I was torn between giving this a PIN or a PF because the map is just that good. The Design is spectacular (my favorite part was the crack in the cave where the light flows in) and the texturing is great (a lot of new textures were packed into this for only 3 MB). The Gonome standing still behind the glass did look pretty stupid though. I knew that I hadn’t played this map before but some parts seemed familiar. After reading some of the comments, I remember that it looked and felt like ES which felt like a more complete version of this. It’s a shame that this wasn’t completed though because what was there was very good.

  9. Play It Later

This was pretty good up until the abrupt ending (or lack thereof). Worth a play, but just be warned that once you enter the elevator shaft you are done

  10. Maybe?

We start in originally looking place. The writing “EPRST!”, which is a civilized replacement of cursing, hints that something bad is going to happen. We enter the tunnel and the train explodes.

We come to ourselves and see that the train fell from the bridge into river. Wow. We exit the train and the current takes us away. After that we fall from a waterfall into the cave with nice hole in the ceiling, from where beautiful light rays come. It looks very good, the only flaw is that waterfall produces no sounds.

We get the wrench, which looks nice, because it lies in the place it seems to belong to – near the broken car.

Here the mod starts to remind of Prisoner of Event, we find an entrance to some base and enter it. In the storage room we take pistol with laser sight, vest, batteries and ammo. Unfortunately, here’s another flaw: there’s and unreachable medkit on the floor.

Now that we have a pistol, we can use it to advance and get to some Xen research terrarium. Nice and interesting progression. The room looks good and original, but it feels a little wrong due to thin wall and thin door.

Third flaw waits for us in the elevator shaft. There I fell right through the elevator, outside the map. Noclip examination revealed that there’s nothing else in the map.

This could be a very nice map if the author fixed its flaws and added a proper ending. As it is, it’s pleasing, but pleasure is spoiled by flaws.

  11. Play It Later

This mod is painfully short and unfinished which is a shame because I liked what was there. Because of that, and the fact that it takes so little time to play, I can recommend it. But yea there really isn’t much to see here….

  12. I found a reference to this map here – http://scrama.3dn.ru/publ/5-1-0-2. It’s thanks to 23Down mentioning it was for a Russian mapping competition.
