This is a nice piece of work and whilst it’s called a demo it’s really just the early part of a planned mod.
It’s starts gently and you are taken through a mini-tutorial, which is kinda cool.
That all hell breaks loose, thanks to that Freeman chap!
YOU NEED TO GET OUT AND GET OUT FAST!
I found the layout generally interesting and the set piece fairly well done. I could complain it was perhaps a little repetitive in places and headcrabs in the vents gets old quickly but all in all this was pretty fun to play.
If you enjoy Black Mesa style mods then you will enjoy this one.
This has a nice feel of the black mesa complex. However, there were no puzzles (unless you count pressing a button a puzzle). The combat was average. The custom content was a nice addition. A major problem was at the start, the constant severe shaking of the screen, mixed with a mass of different sounds. The music didn’t fit the gameplay, mixing with the alarm and crumbling of the buildings, it just sounded like noise. This was quite annoying. Another small problem, which is not that bad on its own, is the doors. There were quite a lot of them, some needed buttons, some you just walked through, one decided to not open again but make a repetitive noise (as if it was trying to open). All of these things add up so it makes the mod just annoying. Maybe it wasn’t play tested enough.
I don’t care bout puzzles; this being a first person shooter, it doesn’t increase the intellect of the game by having any puzzles. Hence it the rating is skewed because of the reviewers preference for puzzles.
Well I like the flow on this one, that’s why my PN recommendation.
It was nice to play in BM again in the skin of another trapped BM employee when all the classic BM hell broke loose.
Actuelly to conssider this a demo is totally out of place, maybe the developer was too ambitious and just couldn’t finished, a shame because I felt the mod had a good rhythm and the mapping was goung out well.
I think that’s all I liked the concept and I say again it’s a shame it just couldn’t have been finished.
The beginning started to catch me instantly as the music set in and text messages like a tutorial how to move was fun. So there is great atmosphere to experience here!
The combat is, just as Mr. Campbell wrote, average but not bad, unfair or anything terrible. It’s good balanced but a touch too easy for my taste.
And yes, Phillip, headcrabs in vents are common, but imo necessary in HL hehe
There are a few cool scripts and the mapping is above average, meaning quite awesome.
So your “mission” as engineer here is simply to escape the BM complex…
Pro’s:
-Very good mapping with customized content such as models, weapon, textures etc.
-Great atmosphere, good BM feeling (also an outdoor area)
-Good combat sequences
-Some pretty nice scripts
Con’s:
-No puzzles and strict, linear gameplay
-Short playtime
-No bugs (for me)
-Quite many locked doors.. (..but no long walkways)
-Some balancing issues
I liked this a lot, and was very disappointed to learn that the mod isn’t finished. I was just getting into it! I thought the use of locked doors was excellent, since I really don’t care for the “you can explore but at the risk of getting hella lost” option.
All in all, it was surprisingly good for an HL1 mod and with a great sense of humor. I’d definitely love to see the thing completed, bummer that it isn’t.
OK. A week or so ago my Video Card died, so this is the first HL mod I’ve played since being up and running again. it’s good and it’s fun but not great!
The plus points are it feels like Black Mesa, but some areas are repetitious, it looks OK and the gameplay is OK, however I can only say this is OK, there is nothing to make me sit up and say this is a PIN, it’s just OK.
This is a nice little mod with some good touches. It uses some of the OF models and has a few tweaks like red hazardous areas. Not hugely challenging but certainly worth your time.

Short and sweet mod, with classic Half-Life action. Nice brushwork, though a bit cramped at times. Enough ammo, and some scripted sequences for flavor.

I can sum this up is less than ten words! Kind of fun, But hard!
I was playing on easy, And it was still hard! Maybe put more healthpacks around, Or lessen the amount of enemies, But, Other than dying over ten times, it was kind of fun!
I recommend, If You want a challenge!
But for Me? I say: Maybe.
