Firstly, I highly recommend you install this with MapTap. I really dislike the idea of adding folders and files to my base HL2 installation.
This review contains spoilers
At first I was a little doubtful at first, becasue not long after the map starts there is a really cheap jump scare, and I generally hate maps like that include those. However, I am very glad I continued.
There is a moment of the year for me in this map when you first seen the “enemy” in one of the houses. I felt it was done so well and the image I was left with was one of curiosity and doubt: do I really wanna find out?
Although I highly recommend readers play this, there are a few gameplay issues, along with a few minor bugs.
The boss fight is ridiculously hard and I had to cheat, partly because it was clear what I was supposed to be doing. Each time I died the fight was different. The second section of the boss fight was just silly. I felt it should have been kept within the same type of environment instead of a big red box room that made no sense.
All in all, a pretty scary map with some interesting combat situations.
Remember to play alone and with the lights out.

I really did not enjoy this map. I stopped playing after looking around for a keycard, one of my least favourite activities. The whole map feels like a bunch of disconnected and random scenes, with a morbid focus on horror and cruelty.
Not my cup of tea at all.

Did you really install this manually?
Oh. I dragged the .7z file onto Maptap. If there is a red button I take that to mean installed into Maptap. If it’s blue I take that to mean a manual install.
I guess you can change it for me? Thanks.
The buttons are just how you download it. Anything over 25MB doesn’t have a MapTap button because I need to keep an eye on my bandwidth etc.
I’ll change it tomorrow.
Sorry if my critique sounded harsh. It just pressed all the wrong buttons for me. Phillip liked it, and no doubt some others will.
Don’t worry. As long as you gave it a fair shake and were honest in your review, that’s all that matters, not whether we agree or not.
I decided to finish this mod.
SPOILER ALERT……..
I wish I could say something positive about it, but I can’t.
Not being able to help the woman screaming, “Help me!” is bad enough, but her screams continued for a fair chunk of the map. I inadvertently set fire to a prisoner before and watched as a scientist burned another man to death. Jonathan is dead anyway, so it’s a failed mission. I had to God mode the ridiculously hard boss fight and noclip my way to the final scene.
Physical laws are broken constantly in this mod, and individual events have no apparent purpose other than a general tendency to move you to the end.
Fight scenes went on and on and on.
Even with all the negatives, it must have taken a lot of work and quite a bit of skill and creativity to put together.
Can I recommend focusing on less whizz-bang and more story in the next mod you do? Make it more believable. There is a half life world. Scientists don’t intentionally burn people to death.
Over and out from a grumpy old fart.
In the ‘boss’ fight room screenshot 44+… um, no idea. No clue at all what’s supposed to happen here. Purple beam / red beam is that significant? Certainly can’t jump to reach the ammo crate so I have no idea what’s going on. Reached that point with godmode on from the prior outdoor fight.
So far, it’s excellent except for obviously-buggy fights and zero direction to figure out what the hell to do.
Also, after red-room boss fight, why do I keep going to white and dying, when there’s literally nothing happening in the room? It’s a timed death.
to be honest this map was where ı test the stuff ı learned then ı decided to make it a complete map and yes ı know boss part was hard 🙂 I was newbie while making it anyways. Also ı just realeased a mod on game banana but it needs someone to play test it and give me feedback. After getting the feedbacks ı will make the final touches
Well I managed to ‘finish’ this after having some weird issues getting past that one last room.
Overall, I wish that it had been released about 2 weeks later, because it would probably fit best with the horror aspect of the next Ville. however obviously it was already in progress before the ville announcement, so…
Of the good things, the jump scares and the sudden creepy were very well done. I yelped and the hair on my arms stood up with the first door (not the room, but the door outside) and so I knew I would be in for a bit of a ride. It liberally steals ideas from Fear, which isn’t a bad thing – but also less original than I’d hope.
The setting was creepy and while dark, I expect that from a scary mod. The area made zero sense, however, but I liked individual parts.
Of the bad things though, they were really bad. The fights were extremely poor – I had to god-mode my way through just to actually make it anywhere alive. No health drops, and sudden inexplicable invisible walls when there was one? No thanks. Also invisible walls appearing to cut you off from clearly visible locations when you *need* ammo? Bad modding, there.
If it could be made smoother – the idea is sound, but… the execution was pretty sloppy. I doubt I’d play it again, but maybe the early half of the game. It was much better than the fight-arenas which made no sense at all.
Not terrible, certainly, but definitely buggy and make sure that you keep that in mind when you play.

You’ll need to post a proper text review before a recommendation image can be used.
This wasn’t the case with the mapping vile 😮
Well anyway, I’ll post a text response probably in later time.
Well, I can’t officially rate this, because i didn’t finish it. But generally speaking, it’s mediocre mapping, an unclear plot, and an unplayable end, so i wouldn’t recommend it…
Firstly because of the advice on this I installed and used maptap for the first time, never bothered before ‘if it ain’t broke..’ how wrong was I, should have done this a long time ago, its so easy no more installing to a particular place and then have to use console, just install to hard disk , install in maptap and play, even maps. Brilliant, do it.
Anyway I digress, I didn’t really enjoy this, I prefer to explore and enjoy the work that has gone in and have a few challenges and battles, this didn’t seem to be going anywhere and I gave up on the first? boss fight. I didn’t finish it so maybe I’m being unfair.
Perhaps I should have given it longer and I always applaud the work and effort that the authors freely give, may suit some people but I’m afraid just not for me.

So glad to hear your experience with MapTap was a positive one.
It is a godsend Phillip. Downloading and installing a mod that doesn’t work was an all too common experience for me until I discovered Maptap. It ‘just works’ – fantastic.
The map starts off as an average “horror” source map. It has cheesy jumpscares, weird objectives, and doesn’t seem to have any obvious goal. The map did have some very simple puzzles and fetch quests, often having to find a specific key card or pushing buttons in a particular order.
The fights were not particularly good, often throwing dozens of enemy’s at you at one time, with little to no health drops. The map also doesn’t seem to have an autosave system, causing much frustration when I died the first few times.
The final boss was definitely the weakest part of the map. It is not obvious when you are damaging the boss and often you take damage without any way of avoiding it. The boss was also very buggy, often telephoning me into a horde of zombies causing me to get stuck and dying.
On a positive note, the map used excellent ambiance to set a very unnerving atmosphere and made excellent use of flashbacks to tell its story. Overall I enjoyed my time playing this map, but due to the problems with the combat and final boss, I am hesitant to recommend this map.

the effects were OK, the gameplay not so much
Well, this had great promise but some awful gameplay ruined it for me. The biggest issue is the use of invisible walls by the author to box you into certain areas. I found that incredibly frustrating. Also, there are virtually no healthkits until the end and I kept getting killed by the Combine supression device as I was so low on health. The ending took awhile to figure out but again, why no sprint button if you only have 15 seconds to do something?
This could really have used some beta-testing to get the gameplay issues resolved before releasing it. There are some genuinely scary moments but this is only a maybe for me.

In case it hasn’t been said before, the enemies are from another game. SCP: Containment breach specifically. The enemy is SCP 096. Hope the author had permission to use the model.

That’s interesting. I had thought the quality of this aspect was different from the rest of the release. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

This is the 3rd map on the list.
Single map (pretty big one). Could not finish this map because of the ridiculously hard boss. first you have to take like 30-50 fall damage which is unavoidable, and the boss also has spells where you take unavoidable DOE (Damage over time) and there are only 4 health kits it seems.
Feels like one of those unity jumpscare games. Very cheesy, no real horror. Gameplay is mostly pressing buttons and there are some zombies sometimes. Little to no health and armor. I wouldn’t recommend it, sorry. Maybe you like it if you are creepy pasta fan
Dread City requires some work to get running, and you have to drop individual folders into the appropriate location to get it to show up. Overall, the layout is a little boxy , but interestingly, the author requires you to trek through a vent, jump down and push a button, and then crawl BACK into the vent – I haven’t seen that but a handful of times in all of HL2 mapping. Enemies are very tough, including a new boss battle that I just couldn’t seem to win before being overwhelmed by Fast Zombies, zapped by the boss’s electric attacks, or running out of health and ammo. This mod offers some effective and unanticipated jump scares as well. The author has promise, but this map is just a little rough.

Uh… it’s painful to say but, this map isn’t that good becouse there is no-sense stuff everywhere, the map is literally empty, nothing to do, the raids from the “aimbot robot”, the terrible boss battle, the grammar. OMG everywhere… where are we, in a multiplayer game?
5/10 (need a third pair of pants, the jumpscares where the only good thing)

This mod actually gave me shivers a couple of times. Very creepy. Some difficulty finding out what exactly I had to do. Not sure if that’s because it was not clear or just not clear to me.
Overall, I enjoyed it though.

I have to say that this could have been really good with little thought into making things simpler. It’s quite buggy and often it’s just guesswork in knowing what to do next, which kinda breaks the flow and momentum of gameplay. However, I liked the look of it and the scares actually did make me jump – at two points: The one where the dude jumps out from the closed door was intense and then he did it again later when trying to walk out of the control room. I’m a bag of nerves now! lol
Overall, it could have been so much better. The groundwork is there and I felt it just needed cleaning up with better mechanics. So close. But the action was terribly thought out and rather unbalanced thus little reason to ever play this again. Shame, I first thought this was going to be a streetwalk of zombie killing when it first loaded up! But it wasn’t…
Nope.
