You’ve got plenty of ammo, health, suit power and weapons.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is that there are plenty of antlions, Combine soldiers and dropships.
How many enemies can you kill and how long can you stay alive?

Epic survival map – you and a small force of npc_citizens against antlions, antlion guards, combine soldiers, dropships, gunships, helicopters and striders.
Generator in base can be broken, if this happens you can gather props to fix it. If it’s destroyed, though, your power’s gone for good. If the antlions can see it, they will prioritize it, so try not to let them into the base!
Keycards are used to open doors with keypads. They are in the control room, which you spawn in. There are also several keycards around the rest of the map. They can’t be destroyed w/ bullets, but can be by explosions.
Command console has switches for lights, monitors, 8 different songs, 8 different cameras, controls for the blast doors and prison cells, and a keypad that unlocks all other keypads for 10 seconds.
with sv_cheats 1
use ent_fire easy1 lock at beginning of map to stop default spawning
use ent_fire easy2 to disable npc spawns already enabled (won’t stop easy1 hard1 or hard2 from continuing to activate them, so you must reload map if you want to play without enemies spawning.)
use ent_fire hard1 for hard mode
use ent_fire hard2 for INSANITY MODE!
use ent_fire dropship1 spawn or enable to either spawn 1 or enable autospawning of combine dropship. there are 4 dropships, the fourth has a strider.
use ent_fire zspawn enable/disable to control antlion spawning
zspawnb is additional antlions
zspawnc is antlion guard #1
zspawnd is antlion guard #2
other npc_template_makers you can use with ent_fire:
gunship1
gunship2
heli1
Have fun and let me know if you find anything that’s broken, and I’ll continue to make updates.
known bugs – need to fix the dropship behavior, not leaving after dropoff.
need to fix so antlions will break the blast doors
need to disable monitor button when power is off

Unusually for me I enjoyed this map whilst I survived. Dooleus is getting better with each release. His fist, called, VR Shotgun Battle was horrible, his second, called HL2 Arena 1, was much better, although just too damn hard, but this release is easier and more interesting.
Be sure to read his notes in the main post because it contains some useful information.
I played until I died but didn’t reload. I got around 177 kills but I have NO DOUBT you can beat it.
Well Done Dooleus, it’s no time to start thinking about making a proper SP map!
thanks, phillip π
The maps you’ve played weren’t necessarily my first OR my best, just the ones that apparently got noticed π
I do agree this is my most polished map to date – spent a good solid week on it, whereas most of my maps are 3-4 hour hackjobs. It started as a zombie survival map, then after I constructed the base I thought it would be more interesting as an antlion map. I still do return to the original zombie version, without the base, as it is FAR less resource demanding and runs at a silky 60 fps even on Synergy (where I get 30 fps on the antlion version, looking at the middle of the map). I’ve noticed that I get about twice the FPS in HL2 that I do in Synergy, though.
I can’t imagine playing past 1K kills, I usually die somewhere around 200-300 π
I have been upgrading an old, linear map called Tactical Obstacle course, which may be more interesting for you folks as I agree the survival maps do get quite boring if you don’t have the perfect balance of challenge and resources.
I will certainly start thinking about doing a HL2-style SP level, with my usual level of difficulty and maybe some weird puzzles/traps π
Dooleus, if you have other SP maps that you want me to publish, please contact me.
177! Dear me.
First play 1,200 (ish), Second play 2,000 odd.
It does get repetitive after about 1,000 kills
Great Fun!
I played “as is” without the console commands.
I’ll give them a whirl though.
I’ve played all your maps, Dooleus, and I have to say that watching your mapping skills improving has been a delight.
This is by far and away the best so far.
I wish I has some constructive criticism to offer but it’s Pros all the way for a very much above average survival arena map.
Very well thought out and excellently executed.
Yes, I too would love to see a SP FPS HL2 non-arena map from you. That would be marvellous.
Look after that generator folks!
How long did that take you?
The first thousand don’t take long. About an hour, maybe less.
Then the kill rate goes down markedly so about 2.1/2 hours for 2,000,
I forgot my RI
AN HOUR!!!
I can’t believe you played for one hour with that map.
Not in one sitting! A sure way to get Numb Bum.
The map has the decency to keep your score when you reload.
I chose Play It Later mainly due to the fact that the mapping is a little under-quality. I would REALLY like to see this guy get better at creating environments. His knowledge of entities and I/O interaction is obvious but his mapping skill needs to improve if he wants his maps to be more successful. This map is not optimized and the whole bunker seems poorly planned out and sloppily lit.
All that said, I really liked everything I found in this map. Secret passages and hidden doors abound. Tons of weapons and tons of allies to do all the killing on your behalf as you roam the seemingly endless tunnels beneath the base.
I think the coolest things are the big array of monitors and buttons, and the death counting.
In the future, the bunker should be just a bit larger to facilitate movement around the allies and enemies alike. Also, OPTIMIZATION OPTIMIZATION. My frame rates were bad outside, mainly due to the lack of areaportals, hints, etc. Please learn about that stuff soon because it can only benefit you.
Overall, a fun map to run around in. Again, no real ending – just kill until you drop. I wish there were a logical ending, or even the barest hint of a real story.

Dying is part of the fun.. pit yourself against AI.. Save and start from your last death..
Endless games get to a point where it’s either impossible to play or it’s just downright boring. This map actually surprised me, as I was able to place the turrets and send out the rebels to hold them back while I went back inside and geared up for combat again. Once I depleted all of my rebels, however, I found out I didn’t actually need to go outside, as I could block one way the enemies came into the base, and I could have the turrets hold the other. The combine forces and the antlions battled outside as I watched through the cameras that he map creator put in (a nice touch a long with the music playing ability), occasionally going into the basement and flushing out the antlions or peaking through a hatch and shooting some soldiers in the back of the head. Overall, play it if you have time, otherwise, there’s better mods to play.
