  1. Phillip says Maybe

Certainly not the worst map made for Half-Life 1 in 2004, but it’s so short that it’s hard to write a review that doesn’t make it sound terrible or amazing.

It’s a few rooms with a few enemies that is quite fun, so if you fancy 10 minutes of action, give it a try.

    Think Twice

I didn’t like this one overall. I felt it quite bland; both the combat (which it was just very scarce, a couple of zombies and grunts) and mapping, also it was very short and the end was so sudden i didn’t fully enjoyed the whole map.

Maybe a sequel of this map could be interesting after being captured by those grunts.

  3. Think Twice

I quickly blasted through this in a few minutes while waiting for the Classic of the Month stream to start. 😛

It’s obviously an early map for the author. It seems that they understand the importance of adding small detail such as wiring and pipes, but the environments themselves are so bland and lacking any sense of place making the whole thing a bit of a mess.

Gameplay isn’t really anything special either. In fact it includes one of my biggest pet peeves in that the player is able to progress and collect multiple weapons before having the HEV suit / crowbar. On top of the the combat is pretty dull overall and the grunts don’t offer any form of challenge.

Overall, I’d steer clear unless you really need to sink 5 minutes into something.

  4. Maybe?

It’s an ok little map. Certainly not the worst I have every played. I wish I could have got Barney into the tiny elevator and been able to use him more.

  5. Maybe?

I sense that it would have been an acceptable map if it had continued a bit. As it stands its only a few minutes of your time after a quick download and then uninstall. No harm and the map isn’t aggravating.

    Avoid It!

Not only is there not much to this map (5 minutes maybe), what’s there is pretty basic and amateur. There are some nice details here and there (I liked the busted security door near the end, for example), but overall the architecture is really blocky and the texturing very basic. The combat is pretty standard and unfortunately not challenging at all.

It’s clearly an early map for the author. With more substance and some polishing it could turn into something worthwhile. As it stands it’s not worth your time.

  7. Think Twice

really short experience…confusing at time (at a fist time i didn’t get the suit) i think there are some interesting touch even if the general layout felt to boxy but i didn’t regret to give it a try

  8. Maybe?

It’s funny how this map has worse rating than Freeman (which really sucked).

It’s another shortie. You don’t even kill so many enemies along the way, but the overall impression wasn’t bad at all. I’d say it was average. The weakest point is the lenght. Design-wise it has several nice details. Enemy encounters are balanced.

If you want something just for a few minutes, this is a good option.

  9. Maybe?

This was a short but reasonably challenging map. Kind of … maybe too challenging, I recall rounding plenty of corners with all of 5 hp left and hoping nothing was going to ambush me.

While some mods have too many of the same corridor and doubling back sections, I kind of liked this one since basically every corner was trying to kill you until you cleared them out.

Not great, but I liked the ideas behind several of the rooms even if they weren’t executed particularly well. Close quarters, under other circumstances might mean way too hard – but also ‘enemies that don’t really follow you’, whether that’s a bug or intended or just forgotten as far as scripting goes, that meant I didn’t outright die every time I went through a door.

  10. Play It Later

A great example of how length can ruin a map.

The mapping is great, the combat OK and there were some really nice touches, but its length is what makes this map a PIL for me. Apart from that though, the map is overall great. It just needed to be a bit longer.

  11. Maybe?

    Very short map but entertaining.

  12. Think Twice

Not really worth a play. The map is too short, the combat is so easy, I didn’t even take damage. The only enemies you’ll face are two zombies and two grunts and that’s it.
