A first map that offers a very simple premise. I’m not sure what that is but it’s fun. It’s more like an arena type map than anything else. There’s no story and I didn’t reach the end, so I can’t tell you what happens.
This was originally released as a map with associated models and stuff. It was kindly made into a mod by andyb, a PP regular. It’s more like an arena type map than anything else. This way it makes it much easier to install and run. Thanks andyb.
The map crashed on me after the Strider appeared and the mod crashed on me way before that, so I have no idea what the end is like.

Let me cut to the chase and explain why I only gave it a “Consider It” image. It’s fun to play but not to everybody’s taste. I actually enjoyed the very basic design and had lots of fun trying to make the various enemies destroy the house. In fact I help plenty on the way.
You might want to be careful with those blue portal things because I move one to the edge of the forest and got stuck outside the map.
That particular idea could be used to great effect in other mods. Wish it was extended.
As I said in the introduction I don’t know what happens after the Strider or when the house is completely destroyed but after two crashes I have given up.
So, if you like arena type maps then you will probably enjoy this.
Oh, have you figured out what the crate with the revolving lid does yet?
I played this as a map first and it was missing things here and there, and then turned it into a mod.It then had less things(like models) missing but there are still problems with it at least on my end.
The suit was halfway through the floor, couldn’t find a gun and biggest of all my vid card hated it,so never got to finish it.If I had a better video card maybe I could of tweaked a bit more but I think most of it is just the way it was made.
I’ll give the guy credit for making a map,something I can’t do.
Having read the above it’s one thing giving credit for making a map, something I too can’t do, but not much point in releasing some thing that appears unplayable. I am not going to bother with this one but in fairness to the auther if he was to clean-up and re-release the map I would be pleased to give it a play through. I have not rated or voted this map.
I has been killed by invisible elite soldiers, oh dear…
There’s plenty of missing textures… and bugs.
Beginners in mapping and modding should keep their first attempts for themselves and never release them.
I used the gravity gun to fire the armoured car out into the woods and I think that broke a trigger, because after that nothing happened….no strider for me 🙁
Again, I’m surprised at how unhappy people were with this mod/map. Sure, I couldn’t beat it fair and square and had to use cheats, but I still found the concept to be hilarious.
I don’t want to spoil the humor in this mod, so if you haven’t played it yet, go play it now to form your own opinion before reading on:
Spoilers:
First of all, I was laughing my ass off right from the very beginning. There’s no better introduction I’ve seen to a mod than spawning in a cube-shaped room filled with nothing but zombies and brick textures, with a message saying “This is my first map, Have fun!” I started out with no weapons and seriously thought I was supposed to somehow fight. Once I was teleported out from that room, I started laughing. Even if this was the mapper’s first map, you still tricked me because I thought it was the best mock noob intro I’ve ever seen.
Next, I spawn right in front of a house with a message telling me to head inside to prepare. While I thought it would be something nice and event-based, there is a timer, so exploring is unfortunately limited. Outside I saw a box with a spinning lid (for no real purpose other than being there), and a teleporter. As simple and misplaced as they were, they were still interesting features because they still caught my attention.
The house itself is a genericly bad looking loghouse, but there’s a really nice feature to it: the entire house is breakable. While there’s a lot of these break-houses featured all over GMod, this one is a little less costly in that there aren’t as many phys_props, so your PC shouldn’t crash so horribly, but at the cost (or hilarious benefit) that you’ll see some floating logs by the end of it.
Before entering the first battle, there are some key elements that everyone is gonna need to get through this map, and, by the complaints above, not having them will make the initial battles hard and annoying. As long as you find the gravgun, crowbar, explosive barrel, and (most importantly) the HEV suit, the experience will be fun. Fortunately, the author starts the game with cheats on, which the map was pretty much designed for as a breakhouse map.
Ultimately, it becomes a big arena map, with an implied goal to keep the house and rebels inside it safe (with no real consequence to letting everyone die, thank goodness). However, I stand to argue that it’s still funny because every time the enemies come in, they’re in a straight line and only march in one direction. So just standing there blasting an smg leads to a domino effect, and the music ends abruptly after you kill the last guy in each round, leading to a silence followed by some bird squacking in the background.
The only complaint I have is that the difficulty ramps up exponentially, expecting you to survive on the meager crowbar and rebel support, but I find that after the apc comes in, half the team is dead, leaving me with no medic, and nobody supplying me grenades. It’s pretty much guaranteed that the player will die once the heli comes in because you have to pick up your rpg from a dead rebel from the house, and then there’s no ammo. The mod is impossible not to cheat in, but to it’s credit, it was funny along the way.
The ending was kinda abrupt too…
If I could rate this, I’d give it a Maybe.
By the time I really figured out what was supposed to be going on, all the rebels were dead so I would have had to cheat to continue, and I don’t really like cheating. If I have to for a brief time, that’s one thing, but if I have to cheat throughout the whole mod/map, there’s really no point in playing.
So, when I died, I figured it was a good time to stop.
Well, thanks once again to the Valve Improvement system, even this MAP will not run on ANY engine I tried, hl2-215 or 220 or 243730, ep1, ep2 or even App 400/Portal!!!
Time for a brewski!
