“In this mod you play as part of the Combine. Your objective is to defend City 17/3 from the hoards of Zombies and rebels. You start under the city and work your way to the surface, from there you move onto Ravenholm and then you acquire a vehicle and travel through the sandtraps. Onto Nova Prospekt and back to the city again. Your final act of defensive is the sacrifice of the Citadel City itself – You must destroy it rather than let the Zombies and rebels take control.”
The above is my interpretation of the description given on the author’s homepage.
This mod has now changed its name from …City 17 to …City 3 and released an updated demo. I have added some new screenshots below. Comments for this release start at comment 15.

I dislike being too negative when writing these brief reviews but in this case I can’t help it. The author is fifteen and from Denmark, no problems so far. New blood into the SP mapping community is fantastic but this release demonstrates a large number of common beginner errors.
Firstly, the story is not really a story at all just a list of locations, ones that almost mirror Half-Life 2 as well!, Next is the scope, this is far too large a project for a first attempt and should definitely be scaled down to manageable size.
Next comes the actual level design. The first part starts with the player having to explode a wall with a Combine control panel. Why would that even occur? Now, being a bit stupid, I didn’t notice the wall behind me explode (Yes, sound impossible but believe me, it’s not) and I managed to get over the metal fence and got myself stuck. Of course releasing demos like this is a way to learn these problems but really I should have labled this a BETA because that’s what it is.
Why would there even be a fence inside a room I don’t know.
Next comes the mishmash of textures. Image 14 clearly shows this. The steps even have different textures.
There are far too many Fast Zombies that it quickly becomes boring. The large underground cavern is another example of beginner-type errors.
The addition of the axe is a nice touch although why would a Combine solider have an axe? Something else may have been better.
Images 11 and 12 show an explosion with some errors and these I can live with in a beta/demo because it’s probably easy to fix but the other errors show a lack of experience.
Now, so far I seemed to have ripped into the author and I certainly didn’t plan to, I just got too excited when typing.
These types of authors; the ones with some technical ability but little mapping craft need to be part of a team with an experienced leader who can help control their improvement.
In closing, the beta/demo was not much fun to play and the author needs a mentor to guide him (her?) to better things.
Am I the only one getting a bunch of white textures and surfaces in this?
No, I am too! got into a room it was all white, nothing else! Gave it up for now! 🙁
Turn off HDR. No clue why this helps. There is a funny error if a combine uses a grenade as well.
Thanks, will give that a try!
I do not know why are going to be mistakes along when a grenade spraegs and that with HDR are something it oneself do not do I about why 🙁
A great boring mod… 🙁
just wait it beds stay 😀
This mod makes absolutely no logical sense, and I’ll be blunt enough to tell the story:
I start out as a combine soldier in a bat cave with an axe and a deagle that screams white-blinding bloom at me before I even entered the action. I jump down to a control panel that, when pressed, blows a wall away from the inside of a hotel (or whatever sense you want to make of it), and I make my entrance.
I thought I’d be fighting citizens or something, but apparently the headcrabs beat me to it (wasting part of the effort blowing up the side of a wall when I could’ve just entered the front door), but I find to my disdain that all my combine buddies nearby are dead.
But wait, hit them with my magical axe enough and I discover that the combine were actually pinatas filled with error signs. Actually, all ragdolls that I came across will explode into error signs in this mod when I hit them enough. I’m partly lost in the logic, but it might be something from SMod or some such. Also, they could’ve been combine ghosts here for all I know because their bodies radiated screaming amounts of Bloom at me until I pummeled them enough…Moving on…
We continue on our adventure to find two combines actually alive, but trapped inside a glass room, so I just moved on. Then I came across the level transition that if you didn’t read the part about my screaming bloom already, you’ll have noticed it now. From this point on, the entire game was white! I was so blind that I just gave up and typed buildcubemaps into the console to make it go away… then I found that my weapons were gone so I started again.
The rest of it was just a path from batcave to dark office to sudden end, but it still tried to scream bloom at me.
I don’t get it…
Thanks 4lyx, for the tip on the HDR! Turned it off and maxed the graphics, the map ran very well! I like the Axe, nice break from the crowbar!! After I compleated the map I went back and nocliped around to see what your not supposed to. The only thing I didn’t care for was the ending, I thought it was going to be longer, but it was stated to be a “beta/demo” so maybe it will be finnished! So to the author thanks for the effort! As I stated above in #3, I’m going to change the recommendation level!! 🙂
Thanks for your comment of my mod AI 😀 AI will you stay my beta tests then you can test map’s when they are done
Thanks for asking, if you contact PP directly, Phillip can lead you to someone who can really help! This is a very good site and there are some very good people (modders/mappers) that would be a better help than me! Again thanks VaLvEr. 😉
ok hope you’ll play my full hl2 mod 😀
rly good new weapons =D

First of all I think it’s really cool that the author released a demo of this. I remember doing all of his mistakes myself, but some of the screenshots shows he has potential. I bet he already received quite a bit of critisism on this, and that he is already busy improving his mod. Hopefully.
Unless I’m just stuck and can’t figure out the next move, I think I just found a big bug in this. I’m stuck between two medal doors and even using noclip it shows me no way to go. The doors are closed and locked and there is no way out. This has to be an eror-This is with the new demo-
Hmmm there should be no fail in the mod I’ve checked everything in the mod. :S
Hi Valver-thanks for the response-I still have the mod installed and I’d like to finish it but I can’t figure out the next move from the room I’m in. It’s after going down a hallway and taking out two rebels and then walking through the force field. I press the console button a big metal door slides open , I go in and thats it-the next door will not open and there is no way out of the small room. It’s the size of an elevator. Both doors are locked. Can you just tell me which way to go? I tried going forward using noclip but the map ends at the other side of the door going outside. Do I turn around and backtrack to the street and back into the building I came from? Is there backtracking here or am I suppose to keep heading forward? I can noclip out of the room but I have no idea which way to go and I see no more living people or anything resembling people. It’s a good mod and I’d really like to finish it. There’s no walkthrough is there?
it is the next map should not come: S but I forgot to say that when you come in enden.så people may even quit the game because I forgot to put the thing so you come out to the menu after the demo.
OK-so thats the end? You walk into a room, the door closes and your stuck between two doors? OK-I guess.
i cant even play it I did all I neeedet to do and stil there is no apearance in the steam games list. 🙁 it looks a realy great mod but unfortunatly doesnt wrk for me. what could be the problem.
ok, well, after an hour and a half of chasing around for updated versions
and trying to get it to even install –>> I Quit
I didn’t have any bugs, but had to come here to see if I was at the end. Since I got a little farther than Phillip’s pictures show (and have seen Robspace’s comments), I know I am.
I don’t know if my problem with the mod was the apparent lack of ammo, or the number of enemies combined with the apparent lack of ammo. I finally got a shotgun, but couldn’t use it much because there was no spare ammo for it. Not a big deal, but that meant I had to rely almost exclusively on the SMG and pistol, and there wasn’t much spare ammo for them aside from weapon drops. I didn’t run out, but I was ready to consider giving myself some ammunition!
The fast zombies and zombines often seemed confused.
Phillip, with Zombines isn’t this an Ep1 mod? 🙂
