• This was originally relased as an executable file. I have taken the unusal step of rleasing it as a compressed folder because there is only one actual game file.
• If you have a “hunk memory” error when you try to run the map you need to run a command. I have also include an autoexec.cfg file which would go into your cfg folder. If you already have one in there, just open the file in a text editor amd copy the line into yours.

First time I ran this I got some Hunk Memory error. A quick look on ModDB gave the answer but I almost wish it hadn’t!

The map, and let’s be clear here – it’s 488MB uncompressed, contains all textures models etc and being so open runs like a Strider with two legs carrying it’s weekly shopping (slow, for those that like things plain!)

The fighting is not much fun and I never found the Rocket Launcher, although I guess it must be somewhere, as I found the ammo, same for the crossbow.

Image 20 shows you where you need to go, but it needs a code and with so much stuttering on my system that was impossible.

If you have a great system and like “open” as in “open marriage” and want to wander where you heart takes you, then you may like it. I didn’t, even with all the pretty cars and buildings. Don’t mention the blocky foliage though!

If you find the code, rocket launcher and crossbow, please post a comment using the spoiler tags to help those interested.

Oh, BTW, there are two finishes: the one with Barney and the fade to black, but don’t ask me how to get them!

I hate it when people upload these things without bothering to test them. Got the “hunk” error with vers. 1.0 and the “vertex” error with vers. 1.1 (or whatever). So, this pile of steaming **** is already deleted; but I might give it one more go if the problems are fixed. My vote so far: Avoid it like the plague until the author creates a workable SourceMod.

1. Hec

That’s what I call irresponsible modders or authors….

2. I’m getting en error whenever I try moving with the mouse:

“Engine Error: failed to lock vectrex buffer in CMESHDX8….”

3. I get the same error “Failed to lock vertex buffer in ….”. This is also a huge download. First time I have had a map that my computer couldn’t actually handle. Don’t bother with this.

I get the hunk error thing no matter what I do or copy and paste 🙁
I just love them self executeable maps and conversions, I’m not known for my patience..

1. There’s a new version which I’ll upload tomorrow, but I don’t know if it will address your issue though.

5. Rikersbeard

I played this for a while last night (GMT) and it played fine but was rather bland, until I ran into the strider and chopper!
Dead, dead and dead again!
I could not even find a building to duck into!
This mod is so open it needs a buggy!
It’s ok but not choice and needs some health!

When I first loaded this from ModDB I got the “Hunk memory” error, but it sounded so absurd that I laughed out loud! Who names these things? Oh well it was a late night……..

6. A I

I have the new version (1.1) and I still get the “vertex buffer” error then crashes!! 🙁
the autoexec.cfg file took care of the “hunk” error! Any ideas??

7. Avoid It!

Well that was disappointing, undirected, excruciatingly hard, unbalanced and too large. Kudos to the developer you managed to make the biggest city in the game I have ever seen outside of Garry’s Mod and for that well done but there was no push mechanic, I wandered around for a good hour looking for the code, I didn’t find it, even with eventual use of no clip. Also having so many large boss type battles that even when using a self given rocket launcher took nearly fifteen rockets per helicopter to down. Mortars also destroyed any sense of safety and yet you still couldn’t turn it off once you’d fought all the way there.

Until the designer makes better use of supply drops, health kits and a more balanced escalation of combat, I would stay well away, if for no more reason than the huge download and choppiness/lagg as well as all the points mentioned above.

8. Well I got quite into this mod once I used “God”, “impulse 101” and “ch_airboat”.
I could not get a working buggy, so I floored the boat and drove around. It still seemed to take ages to get anywhere on such a massive map.
There are plenty of stores around but the striders, APC and choppers are very formidable foes. Not to mention the numerous combine soldiers! And the “Death from above” weapon.
This is frankly too hard with so few places to hide and too far a trip on foot!
I liked the look of this map and I loved the freedom to move, but a working buggy should have been in the garage you first emerge from. And some action in a few of the buildings would be nice, especially being able to reach the roof, where a waiting RPG would help with the choppers and striders,
I played the first version but I will try the new one to.

Maybe?

I put a Maybe! because this is a really huge map, that maybe can have some better use in the futre, I mean I imagine this like a perfect map for CSS Hardwire mod, where u can have some goals to acomplish in the map, and have some really kck ass super battles, but that’s just my imagination, because being serious, this map as a game, is really awful has some really bad graphs and effects taotally abscent, is long and really boring to travel long distances in the crappy buggy and some helicopters are just unkillable, I end this due to god, and noclip, in some parts,, I never found the gravity gun and that’s why I also used impulse 101 in order to acces the last bulding.

Overall, this map is so big so empty of goals, silly at some points and c’mon, why are there many rebels if they won’t follow u and help you!!!, is just stupid, altough I think this map can be really well retaken in some future, because it worths reuse that gigantic map for some better combat and action.

10. Maybe?

After saying “wow” due the size of BSP, I played it during…. 3 hours!
This map is probably the most enormous I ever played. That’s a pity that the buggy can’t be driven. In the other side fighting in this large place is quite interesting, avoiding an APC, 4 or 5 striders, 3 chopper…., because I found the RPG at last time with the gravity gun. See spoiler for detail.
The grav gun & the RPG are in the area with the first strider and doc Kleiner. First you must find the rebel base in the west part There is a map of the city with objective indicated on. The code for the door at the end is there too
So a map for those who like urban combat and large place, and have a good machine.

11. OK, as long as there’s a lot of cheating going on, the next time I play this, I’ll spawn a buggy right from the start. I can tell this is a Russian Mod by the HUGE map and the grammatical gaffs. I finally found the crew but NONE of them, including Alyx and Barney, did any communication besides “Pardon Me” nor did any join me…what a joke.

By sheer dumb luck I found the one building with a ladder to the roof so the ‘death-from-above” could be turned off.

Also found Dr. Kleiner (and a crossbow), prompting a screen message about the gravity gun being in the next building – opposite – so much for translation…but that’s evidently where ALL the zombies are, too.

My fellow commenters are justified with the MAYBE critique.

12. also see my July comment above. Thanx to rikersbeard for the ch_airboat which made it a lot easier to get around…what IS it w/Russian modders for HUGE maps? There are two endings possible but you’ll never see them without first finding the citizen camp, where you first meet Barney – forget about any help from these guys, but there is a map on the far wall. follow it to see Dr. Kleiner & the crossbow, plus some Combine outside the “Kleiner” building, then work your way around to the left of the building in front of you. Zombies, the gravity gun & RPG are there.

There are TWO

I dropped my MAYBE? to a THINK TWICE because this map HAS potential, but shrink the size, get the Citizens to help and put the front end on the jeep!

13. Think Twice

Sorry about the double-posting…I must’ve hit the wrong key & ended my previous comment prematurely.

Also, see my July comment above. Thanx to rikersbeard for the ch_airboat which made it a lot easier to get around…what IS it w/Russian modders and HUGE maps?

There are two endings possible but you’ll never see them without first finding the citizen camp, where you first meet Barney — forget about any help from these guys, but there is a map on the far wall. Follow it to see Dr. Kleiner & the crossbow. Of course as soon as you leave him, some Combine arrive outside the ” Kleiner” building. Work your way around to the left of the building in front of you, killing Combine as you go. Zombies, the gravity gun & RPG are inside.

Since folks are cheating just to play this mess, use givecurrentammo with the RPG to kill the choppers & Striders plus the occasional APC’s. Oh, yeah…there is a sniper high up in one of the apartment buildings, too.

There are TWO buildings with ‘death From the Sky” weapons on top of them, w/ladders for access.

I dropped my MAYBE? to a THINK TWICE because this map HAS potential, but shrink the size, get the Citizens to help and put the front end on the jeep! It’s more practical than the airboat, plus it has a weapon on it.

14. Play It Now!

Note. This review concerns version 1.2. YOU GET THE CAR!
I got to say I am getting soft on this mod. I am now rating it as a ” play it now” because, frankly it is damn fine fun!
This time you get the car, with front wheels, and it’s armed to.
I have to admit to playing this one using a couple of cheats still, but I am close to working out a firing solution for honest play! Just those damn near indestructible choppers!
‘God” mode and ” impulse 101″ are my vices because they free me to go nuts in the buggy! This massive city map is so detailed and so much fun why would you not want to give it a go?
Its wide open, fun and a seriously hard challenge for the honest gamer…
I sometimes just load it for a mad drive……
