Single Player First Person Shooter Maps and Mods for Half-Life 1, 2 and Episodes 1, 2 and 3

You start as a worker on a fuel line, fixing some pipes, working on some kinks; you know that type of stuff. When the next thing you know, a rival company has hired a small ‘faction’ of troops to come in and collect the data from the mainframe(s). Your objective is to stop them using whatever means necessary! Even if it means destroying the mainframe! You can’t let this data leak!

Nice and clean although small. Different scenes than the usual run of the mill stuff. Not very difficult. Had to noclip through last door as it wouldn’t open.

  2. Brain

Nice mod, but it was very small. Also there are no aliens. The shotgun model is changed.

  3. tommy

did it say anything about aliens?

    Review:
Choices is a map release four years ago for a contest . It’s a quite short experience (15 minutes ) but fairly enjoyable trough a good mix between new textures (include 2 new weapons) and small well thought puzzles. Gameplay is straight forward and a little too easy less than 10 grunts and one turret but follow in a good way the starting subject (read the txt include) the choice of texture is perfectly fitting and created a real good atmosphere.

In conclusion: Through the fact this release was done for a contest (and so limited in time) the author produce a solid self packed release that is worth the download for a short enjoyment.

  5. Maybe?

Short mod. Hi definition textures. Nice looking. Not very exciting.

  6. Play It Later

Short mod consisting of grunts, a turret, some interesting situations, and a fun solution to the final locked door.

  7. Phillip says Maybe

It’s pretty, it’s pretty short too. That’s almost as much as I can say.

It’s nice to see higher resolution textures in Half-Life, although unless everything is hi-res it can look out of place.

The combat is very limited and too easy. In fact, this is more of a test level than anything made for release.

One tip: the yellow ladder IS the correct route, just use your pipe on some surrounding rock.

All in all it was hardly worth loading.

  8. Play It Later

Another fresh mod. We are a worker. We work and then find out that the enemies are going to steal important information. We take a piece of iron from the floor and go to stop the enemies.

The design is original. There are new textures. But everything is very quiet, even the ventilator works soundlessly.

There’s an original scene where we see a soldier who is not careful enough with the explosives.

Now about the flaws. Inconsistency: iron piece and the SMG are held by one hands, but the shotgun is held by another hands. The flashlight don’t work. It’s good that I never needed it. There are places where something is wrong with the lighting, hands with weapons and enemies are black in those places.

Overall, good original and short map.

  9. Play It Later

Too short for a coffee break map and almost no combat but it was fine for 5minutes!

Looks wise it was quite nice in places but the lack of much combat really stopped me enjoying this. It can end 2 ways, either stick around for the explosion and die or go back down the ladder and look around a bit but whichever you choose, playtimes over! Its just a real shame it wasn’t longer. What there was could be described as a few minutes of mild fun.

There’s nothing much else I can think of so I’ll leave it to the more technically minded.

    Think Twice

This one feels kind of similar to yesterday’s 100 Days entry, Construction – it feels more like a demo rather than a fleshed out map. It appears this was made as part of a level design contest, and so that’s excusable. What we get to play is very attractive and well-mapped, but in the end leaves you with an empty feeling.

The visuals are the highlight of this map. New textures combine with great lighting to make a great-looking level. But otherwise, it’s barren. Combat is almost non-existent, with only a couple of grunts and a turret to fight. But what’s really missing is the atmosphere. Unfortunately it looks like the author concentrated only on the visuals and totally forgot about audio, which is half the experience. There’s virtually no ambient noise and even the fans in the ventilation system are dead silent. It leaves the map feeling hollow.

Otherwise, I’m not sure why new weapon models were included (why bother, when they don’t even match each other?). The flashlight did work fine for me, by the way (perhaps it’s the config.cfg that messed it up for some people?). I did get physically stuck in a couple places (including getting stuck in the bomb that I placed), probably due to lack of playtesting.

In short, this one’s nice to look at and offers about 5 minutes of play, but there’s just not much substance here. This mapper did go on to do some mapping for Nightwatch, so maybe in the end this really is just a demo.

  11. Play It Later

Very short. like the changes to the shotgun but was missing the flashlight

Ok what to say on this one?, mm overall, good nice layout, but pretty short, and the feling that it was like a testing mod persist all the way. This could be a biger and more interesting mod if the author adds other levels, but I doubt that is gonna happen, so play this later when there’s absolutley nothing to play, and that’s not happened by now, just take a look of the modding appereances recently, we have many new HL2 mods and maps here in PP, and of course the 100 DoN doesn’t finish yet, so play this when there’s nothing to play.

  13. Maybe?

It was a pretty average mod.

This mod is very short and shouldn’t take more then about 10-15 minutes, but it’s a decent one although it isn’t the most fun. The gameplay was easy and there wasn’t too much fighting involved. There were also a few puzzles which were pretty fun too. There were also new textures for both maps and weapons which were pretty nice.

    Try it if your bored.

  14. Maybe?

Without the custom content it would probably get a 2 but I’ll give it a 3.

  15. Play It Later

Unlike the readme tells, it felt more like a spy or some sort of counter-terrorist hehe than a worker. The story is okay, altho no cutscenes or many texts are helping to support.
You have to defend the mainframe from the hired soldiers, or if there’s no other solution: destroy it!
This is what the story is about, ingame it looks a bit different: fight your way through, solve quite many puzzles and finally get to the mainframe.

Note: Don’t ask me why, but it felt like I was playing “Poke 646” again, but yes, there aren’t any new graphics or something, it just was a very nice feeling..somehow^

    Pro’s:
    -Rare, but challenging combat
-Many puzzles, compared to the mods length
-Extraordinary feeling, gameplay – can’t explain
    -Some good architecture
-Different shotgun (from where is it? Counterstrike? lol)

    Con’s:
-Very short, sadly (any sequel ??)
-Less combat, weapons – more puzzles
    -Mostly all grey environment, textures
-Maybe some too hard puzzles (had to noclip once), not obvious
    -Hard beginning combat

  16. Ten Four Reviews

For Half-Life, one map is almost never enough to really provide a satisfactory playing experience. But when only one map is the objective of a mapping contest where the requirements are five minutes of playing time and a completion rate of seven days (or less?), Choices gets a break.

Level design is good indeed with proper attention to detail and variation. Floor spaces, walls, and ceilings are touched up enough so that they don’t look too plain, with things like barrels, supporting beams, loose cables, and pipeworks. A nice texturing scheme covers everything, with standard cement flooring and an interesting pink-orange paint splashed on the walls. It’s a nice, Black Mesa-derivative setting and the continuity of the set is convincing enough, though the final area loses a little due to garish lighting. Still, the scenery looks good for the most part.

As demonstrated by the middle screenshot, the Marines default as part of the scenery. Nice realistic touch for their idle state. Sleeping on the job? Unfortunately you can count the total number of Marines on one hand. Let’s just say that combat is too light for its own good (the one freestanding auto-turret doesn’t count).

With scant combat Choices might be easily dismissed, but the few puzzles help add something to gameplay. It’s the level design that makes the map though, but even with it the map overall can’t go above par. You can thank the requirements of the aforementioned mapping contest for that, because they really keep the map in a box. Still, decent enough to merit a play.

  17. Maybe?

Nothing special, but you can give it a try.

  18. Play It Later

What we have here is another nice mod.

The story is that you are a worker on a company. Though, the opposing company has hired a few goons to take your data. So, the goal is to stop what they are doing.

The combat is decent, at least for this mod. Not too many grunts, but not too few.

The model of the crowbar is changed to a pipe, the shotgun is from Counter-Strike (I think) and lacks sound. They’re not too shabby.

I liked the textures of this mod. They all look pretty.

The puzzles are quite unfair. HINT: In the part with the broken yellow ladder, you can break a part of the wall.

Overall, it is a pretty cool mod. Though it’s short and could have been better. Give this one a try on your 5-minute break.

  19. Play It Later

I can’t believe I can drop down on the head of the grunt and he doesn’t stunned at all. instead he shoot back make your life perilous. It seems hand to hand combat in Half-Life is like pounching the wall with the bare hands
