Valve, Steam and its Pricing Model

Introduction Valve has recently restructured its pricing for games available via Steam. This is of course one of the advantages (from Valve’s point of view) and two of the three new packages seem to offer good value for money. I’m not going to repeat all the discussions about “Screwing Customers” etc.

Real Retro Modding!

The Real Meaning of Retoding! There are plenty of mods that are building old games in new engines but how about building some new games in old engines? I propose a team starts to build Half-Life 2 in the original Half-Life engine! Why? Well, making comparisons between games is almost impossible, there are too many… Read More

Voice Acting for the Masses

Introduction I’ve been writing Mod Stories for a while now and they nearly all rely on characters within the story to explain the reasons and motivation for certain actions. Can you imagine Half-Life and Half-Life 2 without voice acting? Of course it’s possible, and recommended, to have subtitles at the bottom but a large part… Read More

The main problem lies in… Read More

Two hands, two mice, two weapons and two crosshairs

Introduction I watched some cheap Hollywood action movie yesterday and the “hero”? had two guns and was walking/running down a corridor shooting people in the offices. It got me thinking could we do this in games? Would we want to and if we did how would we do it? Here's my draft solution. Two mice… Read More

A Unique SP MP Gameplay Mode

Introduction In this post I present an idea for a Single Player campaign against other humans. It’s in the draft stage and as such there are many factors that require more thought. Like many game modes, one key element is the balance and getting this right may take a little while.

Gravity Gun Ideas

Introduction With the introduction of physics into Half Life 2 it seems almost unthinkable to not have a weapon that takes advantage of the possibilities. Enter the Gravity Gun! Destined to be covetted the moment it was announced, this weapon empowers its users with almost magic like abilities.

Reflective Doppelganger – Mod Story Idea

Introduction This is a story primarily designed for Gordon Freeman in Half-life, but it could work with any well-known game character. The premise is fairly simple; After you have destroyed the Nihilanth and you face the Gman who gives you that fateful choice, as you walk into the portal there is some kind of error… Read More
